The front mech is something that’s been commonplace on mountain bikes for 30 years - though these days it’s more common to see the newer Trail and Enduro MTBs with a single chainring, and more gears at the back. Here at GMBN Tech, we want to support all type of mountain bikers and Mountain Bikes, so making this video was a simple choice. If you have a front derailleur - this is the video you need to set it up to work smoothly 🔧

Yeah, I don't get what is so great about a 1x ... Less weight? Probably negligible compared to the weight of most people.. One less shifting lever?

Excellent instructions. Worked like a charm! Also, my limit screws (for whatever reason) were stripped partway down the bolt, so they would adjust the limits properly. Substitute in a few Allen bolts (M5) instead of the silly Phillips screws and it works perfectly. Thanks for your tips!

Good video...would love to see examples of what some of the common problems are. like where that height measurement of cage to sprocket should be taken, or what the impact is when the cage is just slightly out of parallel. Seems like I’ll always get it shifting just right but always have just a bit of rub in only one or 2 gears. Another thing that I see a lot of is the chain rubbing the cage on just one side of the pedal stroke. Thoughts?

#askgmbntech Hi, I'm looking to get a new hardtail frame and initially finding it hard to decide between the Nukeproof Scout 275 or 290, I'm 6'1" but like a bike I can throw about a bit on the trails and I quite like the occasional trials in the woodlands, so was moving more towards the 275, what are your thoughts. The other frame I was looking at is the Commencal Meta ht am. Any advice you have in these bikes or sizes would be helpful. Thanks

Then i shift up to high and it rubs on the outer cage, so i run out the inline barrel adjuster but it maxes out to get it to stop rubbing. But it does stop rubbing…Then i check shifting again down to small ring and now thats rubbing chain to inner cage bc i tightened the cable so much im getting a false limit. Back and forth with same results. Got any advice??

#askgmbntech I am thinking of upgrading some parts on my bike but I only have the budget for one upgrade and I am stuck between upgrading the entire rear mech up to a 1x12 from a 8x3 and upgrading my fork to a better quality fork like some rockshox from my sr suntour xct which I can’t adjust
@xx-----------xx873
@xx-----------xx873 4 года назад
I'll chip in as I doubt GMBN would get your question quick enough. I'd suggest a new bike, as the cost of a decent air fork is about £500, and the cost of a decent 1x12 is about £400. If you were able to sell your current bike for £350, you would have £1250 to spend on a new bike. WIth that money, you could buy a Calibre Bossnut, a bike with a 1x12, 130mm front and rear suspension and you could budget in a dropper post as well.
@davidprice1074
@davidprice1074 4 года назад
Giles Turner I can’t see the rest of your reply as I have a problem with my RU-vid page I can’t read more on comments but I Have my I on the SRAM Mx eagle and it is only £250 and I would buy some cheap rockshox within the £250 price range I wouldn’t buy a new bike as I only got this one at Christmas
@leftaroundabout
@leftaroundabout 4 года назад
I would rather suggest you ask yourself _why_ you want an upgrade. Do the gears still work ok? Then there's no need to upgrade them. 1×12 is not inherently better or worse than 3×8, just different. If there are real skipping etc. problems, then it may still be more sensible to just have them serviced instead of replaced; ask your local bike shop. How old is your chain? Switching to a better fork OTOH _will_ almost certainly improve your ride quality. In fact I did the same thing: switching from a Suntour to RockShox. The improvement was a pretty day&night one.
@davidprice1074
@davidprice1074 4 года назад
leftaroundabout Just for an overall better ride as there’s always a problem with the gears they slip and the Chain rattles all over the place and things get broken and with the fork it will just make a smoother more enjoyable ride
