You are one of the best teachers I have seen on the Internet! Very clear and concise information with no clutter. I have interviewed countless technical SMEs in my career. I wish they had been all as organized in their thinking and communication as you are. I hope you teach or train in your professional life. You have a real gift.

Excellent video! I liked it very much and actually started adopting your technique. Thank you very much for explaining with clarity and excellent videography. I used to install the chain a bit loose for years and finally messed up my chain. I replaced the chain and adjusted the chain tension. The tension adjusting screw is a bit wobbly; I am not sure how long it will retain the tension. In addition I need to replace the oil seal rubber gasket since a portion (on top side) of it is torn and oil leaks out. Thank you for your time to create this wonderful video and sharing it. Keep it up. Hats off to you, Sir!

I will however check out some of the things you showed on the oiler outlet on the bar. I think it is plugged & oil is pumping but leaking all over the saw.

I bougth a 14amp Bauer from the same place and after adjusting the chain it jumped off after the second cut on a tiny branch. So I reseated the chain and I don't understand this spring thing at all... I can't clamp down the blade at all, it slops around. Did they include the right Allen wrench with this or do I have to hunt one up? I'm blind so I can forget reading the manual or looking at those pictures.

adjusting the center nut is the issue I have . Then the adjust for the hex part too. I tried both ways but eventually, after a while the chain comes off and its not as easy as it looks to replace . Also the small hex adj gets all clogged up after cutting and is kinda hard to clean the space to put the hex bar in to adjust! How long does the chain last when you use it without it popping off? How straight does the bar need to be and should it have a little play ? Great video though. ! Also does the adjusting nut need to be in a certain distance to start when you put the cover on ? My cover doesnt get flush with the chain its a little elevated .
@tatko3366
@tatko3366 4 года назад
Humongous...Chose to work with parameters myself. So tightened till too much drag on chain before backing off in increments, till tuning freely. Also chose to ignore the sound advice about using a paper or cloth barrier between chain and hand. So when became too tight was validated by a neat triangular section of skin being removed from my thumb, with subsequent mild bleeding. My pole saw chain not being able to distinguish the difference between a tree branch and a thumb or finger. So play safe peoples.

Always make sure the chain is running before you start cutting. Also never hit a nail because it will destroy the plastic sprocket. They are made to shear so it doesn't burn up the motor. Good luck trying to find a replacement sprocket!

I loved all the information about the inner workings operate but do you really have to remove the cover to tighten the chainsaw? Can't you just back off on the bolt a bit and then use hex to adjust chainsaw tension?

My electric chainsaw will smoke during cutting between the chain and wood surface and I’m not sure if that’s normal.
@stevenofpa
@stevenofpa 3 года назад
Hello and Thank You for your comment. It's not normal for a chain to "smoke" while cutting, unless it's really dull. Usually chains get dull VERY fast if they hit dirt (even for a second or two) or if trying to cut through a "dirty" piece of wood. If the chain is otherwise in good condition, it can be sharpened, most hardware stores and home centers have the files for around $7, but if they're old a new chain and/or bar may be a better fix. Anyway, hope this helps, and Good Luck with your chainsaw!

Do you know why a portland would get stuck in the on position? Like the safety button and trigger don't work, I put my foot in the handle like a gas one and plug it in. Then just step on the extention when ready to turn off. Seems fine but it would be nice if it worked as intended.
@900stx7
@900stx7 3 года назад
There was a recall on the older Portland chainsaws because the switch was sticking in the on position. My understanding is if you return it back to Harbor Freight they will exchange it for a new updated model. Even without a recent, no questions asked.

Does it matter which way you put it on ? Like which way the words face ? You have it facing in the video so you can't read the words from the right. It looks like it can go either way. Maybe that's a silly question, but I'd figure I'd ask. The picture on the box has it going the other way.
