The instructions which come with your Koni 88 or 90 shock absorbers are rubbish. So once I learned how to adjust my own Koni shock absorbers, I made this quick tutorial. How to adjust your Koni 88 or RAID 90 shock absorbers.

Really helpful - you're dead right about the cryptic manufacturer instructions! Looking forward to getting mine fitted to my old Renault 17 now I know how to set the damping properly 👍

I installed a set of Koni shocks on my 1975 BMW 2002, 37 years ago. While that car isn't my daily driver, I do track it and they've got a lot of miles on them. They're still as good as the day I got them. The fronts have adjustable damping and I can literally dial in understeer or oversteer depending upon the balance desired, with a simple with turn of the knob. Truly amazing shocks. Highly recommended.

Thanks for taking the time to help us out. I'm looking at the pamphlet instructions thinking exactly the thoughts you framed so well. My issue is that the shocks will not open far enough to let the rubber stop out. I think I'll just give up and fit them as is. I'm so disappointed in the price I paid for these things for what they are...

Lowest setting is calibrated to factory standard setting. Be cautious as many ( including me ) have had way too much rebound at one turn, causing handling issues.

Thanks Alex! I had 88's and raids in my old DX coil cab and couldn't for love nor money understand that BS "instructions" they supply! As you said... Nothing on RU-vid either so I left them as factory for 5 years! LOL Put under armour in the new DX wagon as adjustments were able to be done without removal. Keep up the great videos mate... Nailed it yet again

It is very time consuming adjusting the 90series Koni's on the rear of my 105 series landcruiser as the top plate of the shock mount has to be removed. The softest setting bounces like a kangaroo in dune country in the Simpson desert. Adjusted them 2 full turns rear and 1 on the front and fixed the problem but took a good 30 min each side on the side of the track for the rears with 320lb/in King Coils. Fronts a easy as there no built in bumper stop. The previous 86 series I owned , had no internal bumps and were easy to adjust. So I'm wondering if you could leave the bumps out on the 90 series rears without damaging the shocks. In saying that I will be replacing them for quality remote reservoirs that can be adjusted at a turn of a dial. Shocks preformed well at above settings at 3.6t offroad and I notice no harshness now at 3.2t general driving

Is it OK to leave the soft setting right at the very end of the anti-clockwise direction? I recall seeing something from KONI about bringing it back a small amount off the end point. I think to protect the adjuster system but I'm not sure. Also, is it ok to leave it back a 1/4 turn? You were describing 1/2 turn setting increments, are these mandatory set points or is a 1/4 turn increment also OK? Thanks for a great video. So much more detail than the factory video. Well done.

Hi Great simple demonstration for us simple people Just curious what model shock did you go for ? Ands what’s the difference between the KONI 82 or 88 or 90 in the 50mm lift GQ series 👍
@Alex.G
@Alex.G Год назад
These are the Koni 88s, I can't recall the model number or the specific differences but mayyybe it was that the 82s aren't adjustable, and each increasing number was a bigger bore size

Hi bro, I got 90 at front. Can I adjust it without removing it? Can I loose the bolt at bottom and compress it? thanks
@Alex.G
@Alex.G 2 года назад
It depends on your vehicle setup. You may be able to remove the bottom bolt, remove the rubber block, compress it, make the adjustment, then re fit the rubber block and replace the bottom bolt.

Koni. The best shock but the worst adjustment mechanism. These days everyone else has an external adjuster. Come on Koni get with the program. PS really push hard on the rubber spacer to lock it back in and check it after a short run. It has a habit of dropping out onto the ground if not wedged back in just right. PPS the shocks are serviceable but good luck finding someone who does that work, not Koni dealers anymore! For the record I'm on second set of Raids after 300,000km. The old ones still worked a bit but they earned their retirement.
@dingodazz3724
@dingodazz3724 4 года назад
Yeah I agree about the adjustment, I have left mine on the "factory" setting for 6 years as they work just fine (thank goodness) - you don't really want super hard shocks on a 4WD (as opposed to a tarmac vehicle). I don't understand why they went that route with the shocks as I had Koni adjustables in a Commodore VH 30 years ago and they were adjustable via the top of the shaft with a 40mm plastic knob that you just pushed on - adjusted - removed. Literally a 2 second job once the boot or bonnet was opened.
