1. Adjust the TA linkage for 3/16 free play. 2. Adjust the main clutch for 7/8 at the platform. 3. Install the spring. 4. Adjust the connecting link as short as possible without moving either clutch shaft.

I have 460 My Ta works on pulling sled under load it jumps to neutral switching on the go. I got all the adjustments on ta side tight as they will go. and it seems work a little bit better. Does this mean I need a new Ta clutch?

I have a 1958 Farmall 340. The linkage for my tractor looks just like the linkage on your 300. I adjusted per your instructions, but I still have no TA function.

One thing an old IH mechanic told me is that the oil the owners manual calls for in those older IH tractors is wrong. some manuals call for 90w gear oil to be used in the transmission and T/A, and it should be Hy-tran instead. He told me that the later tractors used Hy-tran and didn't experience nearly as many T/A problems. If your transmission and T/A have gear lube in them, drain them, fill the cases with diesel fuel and drive the tractor around for 10-15 minutes while you engage and disengage the T/A. If the T/A comes back to life, drain the transmission again and fill it with Hy-tran hydraulic oil. The gear oil gums up the ramps and rollers in the T/A, and can cause it to stop working. It's worth a try, it is much cheaper to try this first rather than spend several thousand dollars on a rebuild.
