The Exhaust valves are at the front & inlet at the rear, not that it makes any difference if you've set them all to the same clearance but most people set the exhaust 0.02mm larger than what the inlet clearance is set to
@KrakensGarageandAdventures

pgtips, many thanks for the correction. This was one of those projects you work on and poke at it the worse it gets. I'll pin your comment and hopefully others will read it. Mea culpa...
@urmomsahoe1
@urmomsahoe1 2 года назад
Whats the reason behind setting the exhaust valves with a larger gap?
@toadinthehole8085
@toadinthehole8085 2 года назад
@@urmomsahoe1 because that side of the engine runs hotter with the hot gases leaving the cylinder through the valves but on the opposite side of the head the intake is treated to nice cool fresh air with a shower of cooling petrol for the intake valves to bask in. Less metal expansion so the clearance can be a little closer without any valve bounce occuring.

@@KrakensGarageandAdventures What happens if you remove the quick cap, I would think that without it it would be easier to adjust the valves

Second time using this tutorial to do my own bike so thanks for that. Point to note, the spark plugs can be taken out using the same socket on each side, with the exception that the right hand side has a sleeve held in with a circlip. It is the circlip that obstructs the socket going in. You can carefull use proper circlip pliers to remove the circlip and get the spark plug out. Just be sure to get the circlip back in and seated properly on reassembly.

Thank you for the great video… Was extremely helpful. I will add a couple of things that I found through my experience, 1: you don’t need to remove the spark plugs. I was able to get everything lined up no problem without doing that. And 2 I set them right in the middle of the range at .09 mm… and had no problem locking the bolt back down if I left the feeler gauge in place while tightening the locknut. Doing that maintains the gap and does not bite down on the gauge too hard….it doesn’t get stuck in there. My $0.02 👍🏽
@KrakensGarageandAdventures

Excellent suggestions! Why didn't I think of leaving the feeler gauge in while titening down. I appreciate your sound advice. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! 😂

@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@KrakensGarageandAdventures 10 месяцев назад
There's a few things to check. It very easy to pinch one of the breather hoses reinstalling the gas tank. Remove and carefully reinstall. Check your fuel filter to see if it's congested. It might be starving it of fuel. Lastly, check the valves. Were they checked and adjusted at 600 to 1000 miles? If they're off, this too will cause issues. I hope my thoughts help.

Square sockets are available and in most comprehensive sets. To hold the screw while you use a wrench to snug the nut. Also you can skip the timing mark check since you can see the cam position on this one. Just put the cam lobe opposite the rocker and you will be good to adjust. Always check what the existing clearance is before you start. IT might be fine, OR it might have closed up. Which is bad.

First off, thank you for all your videos they are so helpful! Watching your video as a guide I just finished adjusting my valve clearances. 3 of 4 were way too tight. After I finished and buttoned it up now it’s got a loud lifter tic it didn’t have before. Is this normal?

Thank you for the kind reply. The very design of these valves are super noisy, mostly becuase of the tin cup that houses them resonates the noise. I put in 10w 50 (thicker oil) and it quieted them down a little. Were they that noisy before the adjustment?

Excellent video Eric, showing people how to do a little “bit of voodoo” that most are gun shy to try. I make that “special tool” with a square headed wood screw and a piece of dowel. The square is a 3mm square drive very common at most home centers. My personal one I have wrapped in heat shrink for a bit of added grip on the wood dowel. I then use an open ended wrench to lock the lock nut.

I own not one but two Hondas. Getting information on clearances, valves or any other, was never a problem. Neither was getting information on how to do it. Service manuals are easily available, as are parts catalogues. Just don't expect any help from the dealers if you want to do anything thats not Honda supplied. Such as changing fork springs. If you change anything in the engine or electronics, they don't know what to do with your Honda.

Hello Kraken! I bought a Benelli TNT 135 this week, mainly for my wife to enjoy. I rode it before I bought it, but when I got home it feels different. When I ride at high speeds 30-50 mph, there is a weird 1-2 second vibration, almost wobble in the entire bike. Can't isolate the problem. Bike has 900 miles on it and I am not sure what services have been done on this bike. But what are some things I should be looking for when I am trying to solve the problem? Thank you in advance
@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@KrakensGarageandAdventures 2 года назад
Many have had this issue with their bikes. If you bought it new, take it back to the dealer. Just know they're going to try and blow you off. 99% of the time the culprit has been poor quality Cordial tires that are so bad you can hardly balance them with weights. Ask the dealer to replace the tires, due to the shaking the bike in unsafe to ride. Good luck sir and congratulations to your wife. It really is a darn good bike for the money. Let me know if I can help. Eric

xee, I'm not entirely sure on the TnT 150i as it is a totally different bike. On the TnT 135 with the T1 mark the intake valves should just barely be touching enough to get the feeler gauge to slide through. Look at the service manual that has been updated and go to Page 61 I believe. I hope this helps. www.dropbox.com/s/f1x8ka1giue9xos/TNT%20125%20E4%20Workshop%20Manual%20%281%29.pdf?dl=0

Just finished my adjustment, a couple notes. Make sure you have a few different extensions and long and short 8mm sockets for the valve cover bolts I had a hard to getting to the front most ones. As for the actual adjustment I bought the tools that are supposed to make it easy, they didn't. The tool that holds onto the square nub is really nice but its easier to get the open end of a 9mm wrench to tighten it down instead of the other tool these sets come with. I didn't have a 9mm wrench (go figure) but 3/8 inch wrenches work enough to get the job done. Overall its something anyone can do if you have the patience. Most of your time will be spent adjusting checking and readjusting those valves and trust me check them good after you tighten them down. Check them with the size you want them to be at and one size up. I noticed the .06mm I was using went in and it seemed snug but when I checked with the .08mm that also went in so it was actually out of spec. Annoying but well worth the money saved by doing it yourself.
