Awesome info! Up to now, I had "learned" that African Grays are NOT sexually dimorphic. Your sweeties are gorgeous! I learn so much about our feathered friends from your shares, thank you much. 🌻🌻🌻
Thank you, Eliza! I appreciate the compliment and comment!!! Yes, that’s part of my mission - to put good content out -and share my bliss. I don’t like contradictory info or misinformed info online. :)
Parrots might find it difficult to discern if we humans are boys or girls :D My little aftrican gray girl was DNA tested so I knew she was a girl so I often mentioned it when talking to her, calling here a beautiful girl and stuff like that. Then after a few years she decided to ask me, "Are you a boy?" I havn't got any boys so I don't use the word, she must have picked it up from the TV, she watches the TV a lot. She sometimes asks about different things, but that was kind of eyeopening to me... She suddenly asked me if I was a boy.... They got such interesting minds and interesting thoughts. Sometimes I wonder what the world looks like through their perspective. She loves getting compliments though, and compliments are free so I shower her with them.
It’s strange, I just only now saw your post. And I so enjoyed it! How amazing! Yes, I think they understand a lot more than we realize. We were commenting today, that our girl, who is mostly blind, still goes out, back, walks around and comes to her name. Yes, how they perceive the world must be very interesting!
It's not expensive - I have done a video on doing this. The vet does it and it's easier to have them do it, but it's more expensive. Thanks for watching!
@@ParrotBliss Okay..one more question: are females cheaper than males? I have been offered a 10month old female for 1300$..is that expensive? Edit: I have seen one more for 1300$, so I guess it's a normal price..I have bought a big cage for her, and am borrowing a transport cage..I will be picking it up tomorrow or the next day!:) (one more thing: I see that Ara/Macaw owners let their birds fly free some times, and that they will home, land on their arms after a lap or two..do Greys come back as easily as macaws?:)😊
There was a breeding pair a big aviary. The owner wanted to make alot of money so one of the Grey's had a pink rare underbelly. She bonded with a male on the next cage so they got put together. She sat in the next box and he would defend it when people walked by and bring her food. She never really came out. The male you can tell has chonkier big feet and he is timid but always goes first into things their afraid of and the female follows. The female is weird and randy but he doesn't reciprocate feelings that far to make babies. The owner was disappointed their eggs were always sterile. Well. Last night I was going to grab my male and female and take a shower. My male kind of built a house and stays in there while I study. Usually he is happy to come along but I opened the box and he was weird and poofy and growled. Yep. He was sitting on his egg... His name is Mr. Scout. I feel really lied to by David Attenborough.
I have to say, DNA testing isn't usually wrong. This has happened to me too. At this point, I DNA new flock members so that I know their gender. I've learned not to rely on what other people say or the test that they say they did...
Well explained, I will check that tomorrow I already have a male African grey and I rescue 2 years old Africa grey handicapped( no legs only stumbs) but we love her already so much and we think its a girl I have an appoitment at avian vet in march to check her out if she is healthy and also i will do the dna just to make sure..
Great question - sexually dimorphic parrots are the ones who show their gender in their feather colors, like Eclectus. Monomorphic, like Green-check Conures, require a DNA test to know the gender.
Amazing videos love the infos I just want to ask u about my 5 months AG. He has the grey edges in the red tail but he has wings same as he red tail length. I am assuming his a boy, what do u think?
Also, males stand taller than the females on the perch . Your female is squatting quite low on the branch. You had me running back and forth to Indy to check out his feathering. He seemed insulted. Like what are you doing? LOL Yes, he is still male !
