Watching this again after 10 years of break in applique work. Thanks,

When I first joined a quilt group decades ago before I knew anything about applique, our group did a fabric swap and we made scrappy 1 1/2" nine patch blocks and added a 6" border with a vining stem with leaves and flowers. Thankfully I didn't know that I was supposed to be fearful of this technique. To this day, I find hand applique very relaxing. Thanks for sharing this video.

Joanne, I am making a butterfly and a flower with your appliqué technique. I have the butterfly done and working on the flower. Thank you for your clear, easy to follow directions. I love your classes on Bluprint. You are one of my favorite instructor. In the 50’s tying knots “your mess way” was how we were all taught to tie knots. So it is not a “mess” technique, it is a vintage technique. Have a great sewing day from California
@quiltmania58
@quiltmania58 Год назад
I agree---the "vintage" way! I have watched the newfangled knots made and given fancy names. And I always ask myself "why?" Everytime I make a vintage knot, I think of my grandmother, who taught me to do embroidery.

I recently made an applique quilt featuring heart shapes. I used flat pieces and used a satin stitch. It came out nice and got a lot of compliments. But I really appreciate this tutorial as it shows me how to use my heart template to make them with the turned under seam allowance. I will use this method next time.

Thank you for a wonderful easy to follow tutorial on Applique. I have some projects already picked out,but unfortunately that is all they have done is to sit in my to do pile. You have now encouraged me to get the glue supplies together, watch your tutorial again and get started. One is a table runner and the other a queen sized quilt one with petals the other with hearts. Thank you for helping me get back on track. Regards Trish from Australia🇦🇺

Thank you for showing this, your way - 2 layers of freezer paper and the starch on the seam allowance - looks much better/easier than the glue and keep freezer paper until done, then slit one layer of fabric to remove the freezer paper template. I think I will enjoy your way, way more than my old method. THANKS!!!

Thank you for the refresher. I learned this technique from Pearl years ago and am just picking it up again. One thing I learned watching your video is to knot the thread at the eye of the needle. One thing I learned differently is to put just a drop of permanent glue in more risky areas, like the inner point of your heart, where there are very few threads. I use Aleen's OK to Wash-it fabric glue for this, and apply a very small amount to the area with a toothpick.

This method is amazing and is probably going to save my project! It includes TONS of applique and most of it is rather thin lines- many that are about 3/8" wide. I am also going to try something with this where I will fold the applique material around another piece of fabric, a home decor faux leather while I'm doing the starch step. If this works as well for me as it does for you in this video, it is going to make my project look perfect!!! Thank you so much!!!
