I thought this tutorial was EXTREMELY informative and was completely disgusted by negative comments regarding young helper. Her questions were pertinent and helpful to beginners, and it is refreshing to see someone young participating in quilting techniques! The true spirit of Quilter's is positive and supportive, not negative and nasty!

Wow I'm impressed. She sewed that cat perfect. I actually learned two new tips. 1- cut out the middle of the fusing. 2- always have the stitch on the out side to pivit. 👍 and also, the color of the materials and thread were a perfect choice so I could see what was being done. And the camera was close enough to see well. And her nails are pretty to look at. Thank you so much. Great video. 👍💜

This was an excellent video. So informative. I loved seeing a young person and my advice to others who didn't like seeing her, for goodness sake, go find another video to watch. Young people need encouragement, not shaming by adults. I took her smiles that she was enjoying her time and she was also smiling at us who are watching.

You did a great job on this video. Thank you for creating it to help others. One thing I noticed or maybe I missed it, there was no mention of the stitch length and width before you started sewing the blanket stitch. Do you use the default settings for your machine or do you normally adjust those settings? I heard you say the settings for the straight stitch but not the first part for the blanket stitch. Thank you again.
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 9 лет назад
I use the default settings from my machine. I always sew a test sample on scrap fabric first to be sure the size is correct. I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching!

Hi Helen, thanks for watching! We have a few videos from Jill Finley, Janet Platt and Edyta Sitar (coming soon) that discuss applique. I don't however think any of them address decorative stitches other than the blanket stitch like shown in this video. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be happy to make a note for future videos.

Ty so much for this video it is the most informative I have found. Like one of the other comments I am about to try appliqué for the first time I have quilted for awhile. Since watching your video I am practicing before I start my actual project. Wow how long will it take me to get good enough to stitch on my actual project? Also why do you sew straight stitch around the piece after you do the blanket stitch?
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 2 года назад
Hello Susan! It will just take practice until you feel comfortable. Sewing a straight stitch after was the designers preference.

Thank you for the great tutorial. One question, after I ironed the applique piece down it came up, did I use too hot of an iron? The fusible just seemed to vanish without a trace.
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 10 лет назад
Hi Kevin - If the fusible is disappearing, then I would be sure to use Heat ‘n Bond Lite. You could possibly be ironing too much or your iron is too hot. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions as to how long to “press in place”. Be sure you are taking the paper off the glue side! I hope this helps!

Do you use a heaver weight thread? What needle size? Stitch length adjustment?
@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 7 лет назад
Hi Judy! It really depends on the look you are going for. When appliqueing, you want to use a lighter thread like 50wt or 80wt. Small needle and regulate your stitches based on your likes. Test it out first on scrap fabric to get the stitch you want. Then work really slowly. Good luck!

@FatQuarterShopTX
@FatQuarterShopTX 5 лет назад
Hello! No stupid questions here! We're here to help and learn :) You should apply the applique after you've assembled your quilt so the shape stays nice and pretty and you don't have quilt lines running across.
