Diatomaceous earth works great. I use it on my cats along with adding brewer's yeast nutritional flakes to their food once a day. The brewer's yeast adds vitamin B to their blood which kills and repels fleas. My cats love the flavor and it really does work. I have tried several brands throughout the years but now I am using the Walmart brand and it really tastes great. I even use it in my salads and stuff. Helps keep mosquitoes from biting me cause they seem to hate the taste of vitamin B in my blood also.

Well, thank goodness you found it humorous - many people have been greatly offended by it - clearly, I am doing it to help my cats' lungs rather than trying to hurt them, and the bag is on there for a very short amount of time. I didn't think my cats would tolerate it, but they do well. Since publishing this video, I have made a page on my site about natural flea control because I have had two flea infestations now with a cat with flea allergy dermatitis, so I have done a ton of research. I’ve been using FOOD GRADE -DE for about 30 years. At the start it was a little difficult but I managed to figure out the safest way to use it.hardly need any of the food grade DE. A tiny amount works great no need to dust in the air or yard in large amount. 😷 .( don’t want to kill off the beneficials…..) It’s easy to avoid breathing in by using small amounts( don’t dust the air with it) .avoid the pet smelling, sniffing it while applying( bright lighting or near a sunny 🌞 window can help u see the dust application well). Then send them to walk 🐈‍⬛ off with favorite treats or toy.or u can feed them their favorite foods while u apply it.goal is to avoid future trauma or avoidance. Careful when applying inside the home. It can lead to respiratory and asthma attacks.moderation is key 🔑 I typically use it moist with water for pets.right between the shoulder blades on the back. Or a “ collar of moistened DE with water.Just like u would a chemical treatment.can be used dry in very small amounts. For fleas it doesn’t take long or very much for it to work.although this one is safe to eat in small amounts it’s very drying which can cause other issues.-respiratory and skin. Could wear a mask 😷 when applying broader applications like the litter box.( I use a mask to clean it anyway)don’t have to use very much anymore.our pets haven’t had fleas in years.
@Floppycats
@Floppycats Год назад
that's great - i don't really understand how you wet it - could definitely use a visual for that!
@dianeandjesus
@dianeandjesus 11 месяцев назад
I'm very curious how wetting and applying DE between the shoulder blades, or just spot-application would work, since the flea has to contact the powder in order to dry up and die? I understand chemical application working that way because it's about absorption into the cat's system so the fleas die after biting. It doesn't seem like doing that would be effective with DE.
@Floppycats

@@dianeandjesus no. Don’t think so. But worth the experiment?

DE is said to be ineffective after getting wet. Has to be reapplied
@user-rd4pf8ue8s
@user-rd4pf8ue8s 10 месяцев назад
If u understand what food grade DE is, structure - mostly silica although safer than ( feed grade).u would be able to use it as a “ wet application “ nothing new.for certain things it may be more effective or faster dry ( like in your hand with a flea rolled around in it) also more dangerous as a completely loosely dry. I wondered what happened to all the beneficial insects.people have been haphazardly dusting DE into the air 😂 😐 I never used a recipe just trial and error but the masters of wet application are the farmers and gardeners.they have been doing it long before I was born Here is one recipe they have provided “If you need to apply diatomaceous earth to areas where dry DE won't stick, the wet application method is a great option. Mix the two at a ratio of four tablespoons of DE per gallon of water and apply in a thick coat to tough spots, like the tops and undersides of your plants.” As far as my own experience I started to use a watery application on my pets back between shoulder blades ( sometimes along the back )and around the collar.works great and as it dries u will see some lightly painted “ white”. doesn’t work any slower from what I’ve tried; both wet and dry.my pets never have parasites or fleas( tested at the vet) My pets all live long,enriched lives.I couldn’t have helped them survive decades if I wasn’t giving them good ,safe care. CAUTION ⚠ ON PETS 🐶 🐱 and ANIMALS 🐴 🐮 safest to moisten food grade DE.

tell me more - where do you source your rosemary and thyme powder? what ratios do you use? How do you put it in your ventilation system?
@GypsyRoseDukes
@GypsyRoseDukes Год назад
@@Floppycats 👋Hi Hun! On a dry day, I have put a cup of FGDE in the main duct work that goes in to the house by the air vent that is closest. You don't want to circulate back to the unit, for sure. I have floor vents but ceiling vents are just as good. Remove the air vent and pour some in. Place a trash bag over the hole before you put the air vent cover back. I had to put some in an another vent in the center of the house to ensure coverage. The house is town house. I had to change the air filter a few days later. My ventilation system duct work has never been cleaned out and mold spores were in it but this FGDE really helped a lot once the dust cleared. Nasty parasites feed off of mold and it attracted unwanted mess. It was creating a health concern. Either you can shop at Amazon or Walmart, you can definitely mix lemongrass, rosemary, thyme, separately or together as a repellent for pests, as well as zoonotic. They hate it! 💯 The ratio depends on how fragrant you want it to be. The stronger the better.--especially lemongrass. If you have roaches, this will help. Roaches are main carries of 6 different zoonotic parasitic worms. Cats do like to chase and I have seen some eat them. 🤦🏻‍♀️I give all of mine a Monthly dewormer/ insecticide and there health has improved in two months time. Some were bloated or underweight. The FGDE spiced FGDE definitely helped the animals including myself. I even put a half of teaspoon in my orange juice before my coffee. 😊 Of course, all that I have mentioned really helped with the environment control. I do not recommend this for anyone who has lung problems such as COPD or asthma. Animals should not be in the house during ventilation dusting procedure. It will be dusty. Plus, dusting the yard with prevent anything else from coming in. A simple box fan or a good wind will help spread it around.

Thanks for your research and testimony. I’ve vowed to stop being mindless in all health matters and to cause no harm. I’m wondering how often I could apply diatomaceous earth as a preventative measure. Cats out of the bag! My cat is a bad patient & would not allow this treatment method. I might be able to sprinkle it at base of his tail. I could also sprinkle it in yard where he hangs out. Any feedback would be great. It is helpful to know I can get rid of fleas if they show up!

I actually wouldn't put this on daily for prevention - only if I had fleas might I try it. I have learned a great deal since making this video. And DE doesn't kill fleas fast enough for my Charlie with flea allergy dermatitis. So if he had fleas on him, I'd use DE, but that would be for the ones that hatched not to get the live ones off of him. Here's what I am currently doing for flea control: Right now for cats: 1. Garlic pills for the cats ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4o_zks4h-W8.html 2. NoFleazPleaz ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mWjvz9GLekg.html 3. KittyBoost by AnimalEO floppycats.co/kittyboost Right now for yard: 1. Nematodes - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T3cpKE6D2kc.html 2. Tick Killz - geni.us/tickkillz [Amazon] #affiliate And I vacuum 3-4x a week and wash all the towels inside that the cats lay on.

Yes, you can still see them if the environment isn't being taken care of - what are you doing in the environment? And yes, I would use something else on her to get them off. See that article - you really have to do all of that DAILY. It sucks. It's a ton of work. You need to vacuum every day - vacuum everything - under things, etc. If she goes outside, need to tackle that too. I washed everything my cats were on daily - and then I would put towels over those things, so I just had to wash the towels. You can give her a bath to get them off too. Really read that article I sent a link to and make a battle plan.@@chelsiavani

I wouldn't put it in their food. They will get enough licking it off of themselves and their paws. Yes, you can leave it for 48 hours or more and then vacuum it up. But just do a light dusting....and while you're vacuuming, be sure to wash all the pet bedding. This is a long process and might take several rounds. When you vacuum, be sure you are vacuuming your carpet, furniture, under furniture, on the furniture where the cats have been, EVERYWHERE. I’ve been using diatomaceous earth for over 10 years on both my dog and 2 cats, along with my entire house. All those have since died from old age. I leave it on the carpet for 3-5 days then vacuum for several days in a row. I also will use baking soda on the carpets. By the way, bedbugs, cockroaches and even ticks or any other pests with an exoskeleton will die from it. It is not harmful to pets or people but there’s a chance of pneumonia or lung irritation, so if you have a cone of shame from the vets or Amazon, use that. My animals would’ve freaked out with a bag over their heads. My cat goes out only in the screened porch and the fleas have found her! So I sprinkle it on the back porch and in the yard closest to the porch.

I'm trying to figure out itching and hair loss on our kitty. The tail is rapidly thinning, the tip is bare. This is fairly new. I myself had a strange outbreak of small lesions, one of which resembled a ring of them. She does not seem to have fleas. I thought to try diatomaceous earth, and Bannixx. She lives in doors, but we recently lost a cat, had him in the hospital, and he could have picked up something and passed it to her...

ring worm? have you taken her to the vet? have you been seen by a doctor?
@HenkjanDeKaasboer
@HenkjanDeKaasboer 7 месяцев назад
Teresa, please, for your surviving kitty's health as well as your own; Best case scenario would be that you've got a ringworm infection (dermatofytosis) brooding and growing of which you don't want to know the truthful estimates. Slightly less best case would be something you've been familiar with for a while and auto-immune related (psoriasis or something like lupus). Regardless of your own medical preconditions, your cat does in fact show telltale ringworm infection signs (Fur, much loss, such fast, bare skin) especially given you being adamant she has no fleas (grain of salt, but if you're indeed correct: worm more likely, act and do so quickly). Please get your cat to the first available vet and yourself to a general practitioner (or equivalent in your country) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Hair loss in cats, especially spontaneous, is never a good sign. Ringworm would be one of the more beneficial things going on inside your cat's body, so to speak, and I'd imagine that this is what's bugging all y'all. I think your personal diagnosis/'gut' instinct is unflatte-ring (sorry) but very much on point. All these symptoms ring (again, sorry) true for ringworm infections. Ring-shaped lesions tend to be ringworm (dermatofytose/-sis) unless you've got underlying Lupus or Psoriasis, although you'd likely have been aware of that ahead of time and wouldn't have been as eh, 'postponing'* your decisionmaking or harsh measures. As a general rule of thumb; if any living being gets sick after surviv'ring (bad one, sorry) a death in close proximity, get medical advice immediately. Post-mortem bacteria and illnesses are no joke and can get incredibly severe within very short timeframes. Please; get cat to vet, get you to doc, yeet worms, love cat, be happy. I wish you the best. *Idk the best suited verb in this previous sentence; forgive me for my sins, lords of the English language, it's my third language.

My cat had fleas from late September to early November. We successfully eradicated them three weeks ago using the Seresto collar and widespread application of diatomaceous earth. However, we incurred an extra $750 in expenses as the diatomaceous earth infiltrated our vents, causing breathing problems for all of us. Transitioning her into an indoor cat after the flea infestation, she's been howling and yodeling every night. Frustrated, I let her out last night while also assuming they were dead since it’s winter time (40 degree weather) Upon her return today, I combed her out of paranoia, recalling the painful flea bites, and found three fleas and a bad smell. I'm uncertain whether they haven't encountered the flea collar yet or if they've mutated, rendering the collar ineffective. Should I be worried? I've applied powder, but eliminating them and the diatomaceous earth from our home took weeks. With our vacation starting tomorrow, I'm concerned about the infestation worsening while we're away, and I don't want the cat sitter to deal with this issue again. Also we found flea baths ineffective Help!?!?

Is it ok if the cat licks diatomaceous earth off? Do you have to wash them afterwards? Would you recommend this on their bedding then vacuum?
@Floppycats
@Floppycats 8 месяцев назад
If it's food grade, it is OK to lick off - but ingesting a lot of anything can be problematic - so try to dust them with it, but knock off extra. do you have a long-haired or short-haired cat? if you have a short haired cat with an active flea infestation, i would rub coconut oil all over them instead. and yes, you can sprinkle their bedding with it. however, i would first - wash and dry the bedding. then you can sprinkle with DE, and then I would put a fresh, clean towel over the bed. then you can just trade out the towel every day with a new one, rather than having to wash the bed over and over again. when i had an active infestation, i did several loads of laundry while vacuuming every day.

We use plenty food grade DE on carpets, brushing into carpets with a broom. Was cat bedding ant same time. Then wait through the flea life cycle, etc. We do not use yard pesticides….though 10 feral, squirrels, raccoons, possums, etc live outside. We dust house carpets, broom brush into carpets. Wait a week or 9 days….and then vacuum up. Dispose of vacuum bag immediately. Or spray the interior of bag with something or DE. Remember that yard fleas will ride in on your shoes….into the house. The small amount to give a cat should not be poisonous. Dr. Judy Morgan has guidelines. The amount is really important, raw, fresh garlic that has sat for 15 minutes after being cut is also very important. i don't think you can use garlic on kittens - but here's how you make them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4o_zks4h-W8.html - are they long haired or short haired? if short haired - drench them in coconut oil. and leave it on - it suffocates the fleas. Yes, you can use on your cat trees, carpet, etc. i would use salt and baking soda on the cat trees, carpet, etc - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z0RMKoIWF6c.html - vacuum THOROUGHLY first and then do the salt and baking soda.

The flea infestation is under control in my home and on the animals as I had to resort to using Frontline because the infestation was so big. When I tried the garlic, there were still fleas on my cat every single day for three and a half weeks. And flea dirt. Also, on my long-haired husky. I'm continuing to use Frontline along with something else to see if the "something else" will keep the fleas off my cat. If a prevention or repelling type treatment works, then they should not be on my cat. I just tried coconut oil this week, but it's way too much oil to be giving the animals per pound because their tummies can't handle that much oil. I will order the buck Mountain dust today. The nice thing about the buck Mountain dust is Dr. Judy, on her website, indicates it lasts a very long time. Crossing my fingers! I tried diatomaceous earth, but, honestly I can't get enough of it on my long-haired Husky and you're not supposed to apply it that often. It seems to work for a day or two and then back to having fleas. And it dries out their skin. I also have sprayed my yard with cedar oil and diatomaceous earth. Although, my cat goes beyond my property. I honestly have never seen fleas this bad. He, for some reason, has found a flea nest and is bringing them in the house on him daily! Thank you for your continued thoughts. Keep them coming.

Just be careful if you are feeding this to your cats. Yes, humans & cats can benefit from internal food grade DE consumption. I put FGDE in my coffee every morning for strong hair, nails, skin. But when you first start taking DE by mouth, it can cause dehydration & constipation. You MUST start small and work your way up to a larger dose. Slow and steady, or else you will get backed up! Be careful especially with senior cats, as they often struggle w dehydration. [You shouldn't inhale the powder bc silica is bad for lungs. But when mixed with water, FGDE can be consumed by humans & pets.]
