Video 26 showing you what it's like to live in Korea. How to apply for a H1 working holiday visa to South Korea. Taking you through exactly what you need for the application. Any questions? Pop them in the comments section. I applied for my H1 working holiday visa in London and it wasn't as straight forward as I would have liked. The online information was different to what the embassy told me. I hope you find your process smooth and easy to do with the help of this video.
As of May 23rd, 2014, South Korea has a working holiday visa agreement with 20 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden, Taiwan, Ireland and the United Kingdom
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
1) Valid Passport
2) One completed application form with one photograph affixed
3) Return Flight itinerary issued by a travel agency or an airline. (Applicants are advised not to purchase their tickets until their visas are approved.)
4) Recent bank statement for the last 3 months showing a sum of ￡1,500 and its photocopy (we do not accept mini statements or online statements, unless it is stamped by bank. We cannot accept bank statement issued more than 2 weeks before the date of your application).
5) One completed form of Activity plan (Please download and fill the form)
6) Criminal Background Check (Basic Disclosure or Subject Access form; Please contact your local police) with Apostille stamp from FCO
7) Medical certificate or doctor's letter issued within 3 months to confirm your health status
8) Visa Fee : Please Check the article "[IMPORTANT] VISA FEES" on the visa information page. H-1 visa is multiple entry visa.

So fucking happy for you man :D some good tips about the visa appliction as i didnt know you needed a solicitor to even do that haha S. Korea looks amazing man, kinda hard to think ive been there back in 2016 for New Years. My question is when you fill out the stuff what youre gonna be doing in Korea, should i add that i wanna go to other countries? Wanna go back to Japan for a few weeks and then probably Taiwan and then to Korea or should i just stick with South Korea?

@@vgnrose111 The requirements depend on your country, if you're from the UK I believe you can apply whenever you wish. From what I've read so far, once you receive your visa you have to fly to Korea within 3 months. I want to start my 1 year WHV from March to enjoy the Spring season, therefore I'll apply for the WHV in January :)

I’m just wondering what kind of jobs you were able to get working on the H-1 visa and how you went about searching for them? I heard there’s only so many hours per week you can work. What kind of accommodation is best and affordable when only working part time and travelling there? I heard it’s normally large deposits for flats. you can find English teaching jobs on craigslist that pay nicely...and I worked in a guesthouse for free for a bed... if you follow the story of my videos you'll see how I eventually ended up in a 20million won deposit house! :)

how long did the whole visa preparation take? how detailed does the travel plan need to be? I've heard that some embassies require exact time frame, pictures and a much detailed travel plan. how long in advance did you buy your flight ticket? do criminal background checks and medical check also need to be pithing 2 weeks of applying for the visa? -The preparation took me a couple months because I was in Spain. But you could so it in a month. -You have to apply for the Criminal background check, wait for it to arrive and then send it to a lawyer to get apostilled. - I bought my ticket a week before I left. - CRB has to be at least 3 months. Medical check as well. Sorry for the late reply, was camping in the mountains. Got some exciting videos coming up! :)

okay some more questions hahah! Luckily, I've got my medical from my doctor and also got my DBS form so I just gotta get it stamped! 1) Where did you buy your insurance from? 2) How do I fill out the Visa Application 3) What did you put in your activity plannnn?? hopefully if i can get all these sorted in the next 10 days, I should be able to apply for my visa in the next 2 weeks :)

1) I went on comparethemarket or one of those websites you can compare insurance and chose the best one. I think I paid £400-£600 for 1.5 years. 2)Print it from the embassy website, inout your name passport,D.O.B,address and all that stuff, pretty straight forward. 3)I sent you a picture on Instagram

Hiya, great video! I was just wondering if you could answer a couple questions. 1) Do you still have to get the TB shot or not anymore? 2) I have travel insurance from March 2022 - March 2023 as I'm coming back from Korea to get a visa in the UK to go back to Korea on the WH visa if that makes sense. Is that okay? 3) How long do you reckon it would take to get the visa in 2022? I'm in the UK for 19 days and I'm worried that's not going to be enough time. I was told minimum 15 days to 6 weeks, but most of the other places were saying 1-2 weeks. What do you think? Love the videos!

For anyone else coming across this, I applied in the UK and they did need a TB test (not a vaccine). Any test will do (I did a blood test), just as long as it says you are negative for TB. You will need to do this privately as the NHS wont do it (since there is nothing wrong with you, hopefully).

Hello this question may have been answered but I am very confused on one thing. I am eligible for all the requirements but at the bottom it says must have graduated one year ago or be a student. I tried calling to see if there’s anyway around it (I graduated two years ago) no one at the embassy had the answe finally I called another in LA and they said it’s not possible… did you have to prove to them the exact years of university or did they no actually care?

quality channel! new subscriber here. i'm thinking of getting a H1 for a year but topping up my income with freelance work based and taxed in the UK. would that break their rules on employment? or do they basically not care how you fund your year, so long as you're not taking the 'wrong' sort of employment in SK?

They don;t care if you're working for an english company or an online english teaching job for a chinese school. They specifically list the jobs you can't do whilst here... teach engish, work as a dancer, work as a receptionist. Check the website for a specific list. Freelance work in the UK should be ok. You don't even need to mention it when applying. Just turn up and say you will be looking for work. I applied for the visa solely so I didn't have to do visa runs to japan every 3 months. Lived in vietnam before and had to drive to cambodia every 3 months for a visa run, became tedious. Sorry for the late reply, was camping in the mountains. Got some exciting videos coming up! :)

@@aaroninky Also.. if you're coming to to the country atm you have to quarantine in a government hotel for 2 weeks (£1500) HOWEVER! If you come with a H1 visa you can quarantine in a place of your choosing (friends,cheap hotels, guesthouse etc)

@@PirateDan yes, that's a bit of a bitter pill to swallow! thanks for the heads up. i think i'll time the visa application so that i have until early spring to arrive, just to give a chance for the 'vid to lessen up and relent a bit after winter. i'll probably be looking at a long-term airbnb sublet or something so hopefully i can find somewhere that's cool with quarantiners!

Hi, I apologise for another question. I read that after 6 months it's compulsory to sign up to NHIS. As a person from the U.K, is it worth only getting 6-7 months of travel insurance and then after that switch to NHIS in Korea ? (Rather than paying a whole year of insurance)

I've been in Korea 15 months and honestly that's the first time i've heard of NHIS, i had to google it. I came with 18 months travel insurance. I've been to immigration loads and got 2 ARC cards and nobody ever mentioned NHIS to me.

Do you have to have had £1500 for the whole 3 months of statements? or is it fine as long as you have it at time of applying? also what did you put for status of stay and purpose of visit ? currently applying for the H1 :)

You have to have at least £1500 in your account when you apply, so it show on the bank statement. Purpose of visit, work and travel Status of stay o wrote h1 working holiday visa 👊

Hey bro, thank you very much for the info on this! I have a few questions, a little stupid ones perhaps but you're my saviour for this! 1) Perhaps the most stupid one of all - Additional passport photos. How do I get these, or do I need a new passport just to get the additional photos? 2) With the return flight itinerary - did you show proof of you buying your flight tickets or did you show them a printed screenshot of your supposed flight times? 3) When done all 8 steps you've shown, we just post it to the embassy? Or give it to them in person? I'm just saying this as I'm not far from London so I might feel at ease going there in person - Visa payment also, would that be sent via post/given in person at this stage too correct? 4) Are we even allowed to apply for the H1 visa right now due to covid? I made this video to help so happy i can make life easier for you! 1) Get additional photos from the post office or supermarket (somewhere with a passport photo booth) 6 cost about £8. 2) I went to hand it in person, i travelled down from Leeds. I wanted assurance that they received them and were processing them. They were so useless on the phone i wanted to see them in person. 3) H1 opened to England last week, i recommend taking a trip to the office. Will be so much easier than trying to get a straight answer on phone or their wesbite. Honestly their embassy service was THE WORST i've experienced, so confusing. FEEL FREE TO ASK ME ANYTHING ELSE. 👊

@@princemario3983 It is a bit confusing, but fully vaccinated travelers don't have to quarantine, but there are some exceptions. As far as I have heard, it isn't though but do your own research to be safe :)

I know that for Spain you have 3 months from the day they issue the visa until you enter Korea. Once you enter the 1 year visa starts. I´m not sure whether from the UK its also those 3 months or a year

hello you can buy health insurance from google for 300 euros for a year. i don't know where you saw 30,000 euros, that's insane!! buy travel insurance, print it off and take it :)

No problemo, you just need to have enough money to travel. t doesn't matter in you currently have a job or even a degree. The H1 is for everyone!!

I had the same problem, the doctor was like 'we don't provide medical certificates'... So I said they need to write to say my previous health checks are okay and im fit and healthy. It can literally be a sentence saying .. 'ROMderful is healthy to travel and has no previous medical conditions' Signed - (DOCTOR ) The DBS you have to have signed by a lawyer. A family lawyer can be okay. My dad is a criminal lawyer and he signed it for me, saved me having to pay a private company (£50). If you have a family friend or anyone that's a lawyer they just sign it with their name. HOPE THAT HELPS! :)

On the left side, write the month and then I wrote things like -Visit gyeongbokgung palace -visit the war museum in itaewon -hike bukhansan and stay in a temple -go o the top of lotte world tower and stay in a hostel in jamsil -go on a camping trip to seoraksan and hike daecheongbong mountain -visit gangnam and hongdae and drink in a makgeolli bar and eat kimchi pancakes

saw many expats go shopping at emart hybrid supermarket in skorea, do you know it? saw they have many products from the west, eg foreign liquor 🥃 beer and wine, foreign premium brand food and lots of cheap snacks without a brand, perhaps good to film 🎥

Yeah, just tell them they literally need to write a sentence saying you are medically healthy and a signature. They don't need a printout of all your medical history! 👊

I applied in September and got accepted 1 week later. Apparently there are only 1000 applications accepted a year, however I was asked no questions. Just paper work, money then stamped, dead simple. So I assume you can apply anytime!

@@nobaddie-chan They won't check it on arrival only for the application... so i guess you could ask someone to lend you the money till the day you leave and then give it back...When I arrived they saw my visa and just waved me into the country.

I was 30 when i applied, the age limit is 31..but just before i turned 31 i was allowed to extend for a second year... but i think that's only for english and americans..where you from? i'm guessing you're already in the country? 👊

@@PirateDan I turned 31 in May and I'm from the USA. It was unexpected when I heard about my program discontinuing. I'm currently in the process of finishing my Bachelor's Degree and I will not have it until mid to late February. I'm on a E-2 visa now, but it expired in March 2022. I'm a little distraught because I gave up my whole life back home to come here.

@@dull.4320 hey I don't sorry, my advice is to check often and try and prepare the documents that don't have a time frame early - visas opened for like a month or so in june and I was able to apply basically immediately and received it back after a couple days

did you just print a outbound / inbound itinerary and send it to them? the embassy said you have to buy the outgoing ticket! did you find anywhere that will allow you to self-isolate also?! apparently you don't need to quarantine at some super expensive hotel D:

@@Noka-__-v You DON'T have to buy a ticket, that's the one thing that was most annoying. Just print an itinerary of possible flights, give them one and if they say have you booked it, just book it there and then. I didn't book anything and it was fine! You can also find a friends apartment or airbnb to quarantine in if you can 👊

The working Visa says that the requirement to apply is that we must either be a Current Student, or graduated within one year. Im from the US and i find this confusing. Im in my second year of College but im taking this semester off due to COVID. Must i be a student in the US? Or Korea? Would me taking the semester off disqualify me for the Working Visa?

You don't have to be a student or a graduate to apply for the visa. I was neither when I applied. The application does ask you about your education, but that isn't a requirement for the visa. Sorry for the late reply, was camping in the mountains. Got some exciting videos coming up! :)

@@PirateDan Thank you! I went on Friday to the consulate and they did not say anything about that section... I left the Type of support blank as you mentioned and costs 4000, as they mention that if you don´t want to buy a return ticket you have to proof you have 4000 in your bank statement. They accepted all my papers and everything. :D Apparently I need a year´s insurance that I need to send to the consulate by email in order to get my Visa proces going. Do you recommend any?

They don't need all your medical history, just get the GP to write a sentence saying 'based on Pirat Dans medical history, I can see he has no health issues' something like that. That's what my dr did and it was fine 👊

None, i went to amsterdam a week before i came to Korea but didn't smoke anything because i thought i would be drug tested.. The only thing you need before you come is a letter from your Doctor saying you are healthy. 👊

Look up "Goshiwon" a cheap place for 1 year would be about 2,400 for the cheapest option. Then if you want your own shower, window and so on you'll pay more. As a hostel would eat into your cash a lot quicker if youre gonna plan on staying for the year.

you need to have that as a full amount when you apply. yes, you will need to quarantine if you come now.
