I am 43 using foundation for the first time to start covering up blemishes, wrinkles, etc. sucks getting old. I appreciate the simple, easy, and to the point help! I have a great foundation brush from Sephora and was amazed how LITTLE product you need so this tutorial also saves money because you know how much to use and not waste product. I’m also learning concealer and I have to say the shades they picked at the store were OK but I think the concealer was too light. I guess it is a game of trying things!

I haven't always had clear skin, you'll find using the MintPear Kabuki brush helps to improve the coverage for breakouts, and let's you apply more product where you need etc. Using a setting powder following the foundation, will help to keep the foundation/concealer in place longer also. Hi Thunder Bay! Thank you for your comment. I agree with you. This was the first time I applied this foundation to my skin, and I was actually 'color-matched' with the little scanner device at sephora for this one, which was crazy it was sooo off. But, I decided to post it because it shows 'where' I'm applying the foundation easily, you can see the contrast of my skin and where I'm applying the makeup. :) Good eye BTW and thank you for your support!

Thanks! Nice and quick tutorial to watch in the morning while getting ready for class 😅 I used this technique but slightly modified as I sprayed my kabuki with setting spray while applying to different parts of my face. Hopefully this technique means my face won't come off my mask 🥲

Yes, I agree with you. This is a very thick foundation and you cannot get a good application with your fingers, you also must use a really nice moisturizer, primer and some type of face oil, like the Rosehip Oil by MintPear prior to application will help to prevent the cake face and heavy look. Thanks Rita, this was very helpful and some great tips here too! I use the smashbox primer however I don't like the feel of the primer, I only use it to make makeup last longer. I also don't enjoy using finishing powders/veil as they make my skin feel tight even when I use a very little amount as I like to look natural as possible.Just need a little bit of advice; I have very dehydrated and sensitised skin, if I use just a setting spray before and after foundation(as it's more lighter on the skin than using a primer or veil); would that also help the foundation to stay in place all day??

Is it maybe lighting that makes me feel that you might be a lighter shade of foundation for your skin?:) I have such doubt personally with feeling that I have chosen the best suited foundation. With all the undertones and such. I believe myself to be neutral since my veins are green in my inner forearm. Greenish veins at most. And yet foundation is made so that each one whether ascends or descends in an order. Light to dark or vice versa, yet going from one neutral to the next can be quite a jump in shade color! Even Sephora with their fancy skin scanner was not accurate where I watched it tell me I was 1-3 shades darker than that I had matched myself with:) same for my sister! She’s obviously a light tone as she is Asian and never goes out in the sun! So it seems almost impossible to assure oneself that you don’t show such a drastic change in color say if I were to do half my face only. Both sides should somewhat match? That’s how I feel?

Yasss Gawwwd! Hello! Yes, You are actually completely accurate. This is one of the most accurate comments this video has had. I appreciate you taking the time to explain why you feel the way you do about picking a shade of foundation. It is definitely a difficult task. You won’t believe it, but this foundation I am applying in this video is the first time I had ever applied the foundation. And it was matched with Sephora’s skin matching machine, that you are speaking of! Also, the lighting and the editing made the color seem more off than it is in real life. With that being said, the absolute best way to select a foundation is the swipe it on your clean face and neck, and go outside of the store in day light to see if it is a true match. I remember a while ago you mentioned a great hack of washing your makeup brushes with a good shampoo rather than the expensive (and in my opinion less effective) brush washes. But do you use conditioner also?

I'm a sponge user but recently bought a brush to experiment. My problem is that my face doesn't match the color of my neck - face is whiter. Do I need a darker foundation? Or is it best to use lighter the foundation on my neck?

I do performances. I like the full coverage because it removes imperfections easily I am a man doing make up for dance performances Could I wear a full covered foundation while still appearing masculine?

Hi, please help me. After I applied foundation my makeup becomes cakey. I did not apply too much. I used primer and moisturiser. I can’t figure out why.

Except from these, it is possible that you are not applying gently your foundation on your skin. Try using a damp makeup sponge for applying foundation by dabbing it on your face. I used to have the same problem as you, and this helped me a lot!

Try by letting your moisturiser set into the skin, before you apply primer, and the primer make sure you use it only on the areas where you really need it ( maybe dry/uneven skin, large pores). ❤

Definitely put primer on the apples of your cheeks (make sure there’s enough) rub and massage it in slightly. Then put a blob of foundation in the outer part of your cheek and blend it inwards by dabbing and spreading. If it gets a big clogged even then, don’t be afraid to use your hand of finger to just rub a bit off. If your skin is dry, avoid using powder unless completely necessary for particular areas on your face. If it still looks clogged then maybe you didn’t wait long enough between moisturising and applying makeup?

HI DLaurie, my all time favorite foundation for a non cakey beautiful finish is the Lancome, Tient Idole with the Lancome primer or Laura Mercier Primer underneath. @Summer Budreau I don’t wear eyeshadow, but applying foundation on your eyes acts as a base/primer too! And yep, you can apply foundation beneath your eyes getting as close to the water line as possible and you can apply it at the eye socket up to your brows :). Basically anywhere that there’s skin on your face, foundation can go haha.

Hey, So whenever I apply foundation I always moisturise my skin because I have dry skin. And after applying my foundation it either dries out even more or get too greasy (depending on how much moisturiser I use) I can never find a perfect balance.
