100% the best way to start playing all the modes! (It’s basically the bigger picture approach) You can also use a similar approach for learning chord progressions. Learn all the diatonic chords within a Major key and just change which chord your emphasising to play modal progressions. Basically learning one “fretboard diatonic layout” and you know all the modes. The fastest and easiest way to approach the guitar, that’s for harmony and single note playing. Then you can zoom in and get to know things on a deeper level later. But we want progress to be fast, not the “I’ll get there one day” approach most teachers teach these days. “The viewing all modes as completely unrelated entity’s” approach that is! Nice video👍🏻
So did I get you right.. You don't think in shapes, arpeggio patterns and so on at all? If so, how would the learning approach look like? What are the first steps to master this freedom you have? A step by step lesson would be great!
i do think of arpeggios or patterns if i want to play certain things, but i can also just think of the notes if i want. i'd say it's kind of both approaches, it depends on what i want to play. the first thing that you have to learn is notes on the fretboard. then every scale and every triad in every part of the neck.
