Timer on? 30 minutes, let's go! Before your woom NOW is ready to hit the streets, there are a few components to attach and things to tighten.
In this video, we’ll run through step-by-step instructions on how best to assemble your child's woom NOW (applicable for woom NOW 4, 5 and 6 models), looking at everything from carefully removing the packaging to putting in the front wheel, connecting the lights to affixing the front rack and mounting the pedals.
💡 Useful tip: Once you’ve unpacked your bike, put the cardboard in a safe place in its original condition - this is necessary in case you need to return the bike or exchange it for a different size.
☝️ Take note!
- Do not use the left brake lever until the front wheel is in place. If you pull the lever without the disc between the pads, it will press the brake pads together and they’ll be very tough to separate again.
- Make sure the fork is facing the correct direction - the light needs to be pointing forwards in the direction of travel.
- While straightening the bars, make sure the brake and gear cables form consistent curves, without any kinks or twists. You don't want them to be kinked or twisted, like on the left!
- When putting the front wheel in, make sure the disc brake rotor is on the left when you’re facing forwards on your bike. This is the non-drive side of your bike.
- Always be aware that any excess cable at the mudguard end or the hub end running from the fork risks getting caught in moving parts and therefore potentially damaged, so double-check it’s at the correct length.
- Disc brakes take a while to get 'bedded in' and reach their optimal breaking performance. Before your child heads out to use the bike properly, find a safe space and make sure your child pulls on the brakes firmly a few times to bring the bike to a stop. After a few pulls, you'll realise that they're already braking effectively.
🦺 Quick safety check
Remember that safety begins with your bike. Double-check the height of your saddle and your handlebars, as well as the position of the brake levers, gear shifter and bike bell. Is everything set up optimally for you?
Give your bike a quick safety check before setting off. Think: screws, brakes, air.
1. Are all the screws and quick-releases done up tightly?
2. Are the brakes working perfectly?
3. Are the tyres well pumped up? Is there any sign of damage to the rubber?
