If you're having trouble attaching a rototiller to your tractor, you're not alone. These things can be a real bugger to attach! I'll show you a few tricks to install your rotovator.
The tiller we're using is made by Sicma, and branded LS. The tractor is an LS MT342.

Lordy......and all this time i thought that it was just me having all the problems. Good for my soul to watch another dude struggle with getting the friggin splines to align. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you for showing the REALITY of mounting a tiller. You mentioned all the challanges I've run into that nobody ever told me about. I thought it was just me. It takes me two hours to attach the tiller and thirty minutes to do the tilling. It's WAY harder to get it mounted than it looks. Exhausting! If I've learned anything at all about getting one mounted, it's to take the time to really clean and lube the PTO shaft and connectors before attempting.

Micah, I know it was a struggle to get it all together, but from a novices point of view, real life struggles are great teachers. Folks that do the job without breaking a sweat of panting are not teaching me real life situations. Thanks for the video.

I'm real good at not doing stuff right the first time. Learned a lot in the process of failing for sure!

I am new to tractoring. Recently, I used my tiller for the first time. You are right, it is very hard to connect the PTO. Holding the PTO weight, while pulling back on the collar and pushing the shaft is a challenge. Not enough hands in a very limted space. One trick I discovered is to connect the chain from the protective shroud to the top link. That holds the weight of the PTO. so both hands can manipulate the collar and the shaft. Once the splines are lined up, you may need to loosen the chain by a few links so the PTO wiĺl push onto the chaft. I also spray the splines with WD40 to lubricate the shaft. Thanks for this video.

Thanks for video bro. I got some tips from it. Glad to see I'm not the only one with the tiller from hell......

I know all the guards and shrouds are there for safety, but I feel like they are what makes it so hard to get it on, in the old days there was now guard around the PTO and no plastic covers on the shaft so you could grab a real handful and shove it in the first time.

And that’s why I just turn my small garden with the bucket. I have a tiller (inherited from dad) but it’d take as long to hook it up as it would to tear it up and smooth it out with the bucket. I guess in the end it’s just perception of is it worth the work. However, very good detailed video on how it really is. You’re a rockstar my brother!!! Thank you!!

You are so right, that shaft can be areal pain in the ass. I used white paint to mark a line on the coupling where the spline is, it helps to line it up. My bush hog has the button and the chipper has the pull back collar ( bad design ). I also use a dust cover on the PTO shaft. Thanks for the video bro!☮✌🏻

Thanks for demonstration Micah. I traded my 3025 John Deere that I bought new back to the Dealer for a 2011 model that didn't have the electric PTO. I very hated it. My New Holland is all mechanical, I like it so much better. After all a tractor doesn't need all them bells a whistles. Their made to farm. In my opinion.

I would certainly prefer to not have an electric PTO switch, but it seems like every manufacturer thinks it's something that everyone wants. We're totally on the same page- mechanical stuff for the win!

My brush hog has one of those collars on the PTO shaft -- definitely a pain to try to pull back on the collar while simultaneously trying to push the PTO shaft forward onto the tractor!

I'm generally willing to put up with some BS to save a buck, but I'll blow my life savings to get rid of one of those sliding collar jobs on a PTO shaft

Yes keeping the Cover on your PTO is always best option .. Lithium grease light smear to stop oxidation developing on the male Splines ... If you are worried by light weight Manufactures stand ge you local engineer to make a pair of fixed height Stands to stablise your equipement ... Rotary Hoes are great bits of Kit and produce great seed bed after three passes ...

Micah, I have a MT122, just a great sub compact that more than fits my needs. Question, does LS a quick attach just work on LS attachments like a grapple or pallet forks or will I have to get a skid steer style to work on other makes of attachments. And 2, mine has the front end loader LL1101, the bucket looks to already have the pocket at the top of the bucket and a place for the pin on the bottom for a quick attach, will my bucket work with a quick attach?
@HomesteadBandwagon
@HomesteadBandwagon Год назад
It gets a little...complicated on the quick attach options for the LL1101. LS did make a quick attach system, but it was only compatible with their bucket and a grapple they made. Standard SSQA stuff had to be modified to work with it, as the attachment points were taller on SSQA than on the LS quick attach. LS just introduced a new LL1102 loader that DOES have the SSQA on it, but that doesn't do you much good at the moment. I do not believe the bucket on the 1101 would be compatible with an SSQA system, so your best bet would be to find a company making and aftermarket SSQA kit for the 1101 and a new bucket. Not the cheapest thing in the world, unfortunately.

How about buying the PTO Link System? Makes it a piece of cake to hook up a PTO. Not cheap as it's $420 for the PTO Link for one hook up. And then $220 for each addition piece that goes on the PTO shaft for each piece of equipment or just remove the half that goes on the shaft each time. Just a thought. No, I don't have it yet but with my bad back I'm about to buy it because you're not stuck bending and fighting the darn thing.
@HomesteadBandwagon
@HomesteadBandwagon Год назад
They look pretty great, but that price tag is a tough one to justify! Have you seen it being used on an implement with a real short PTO shaft? Any issues?

@@HomesteadBandwagon No I haven't but I also have a 342HC with the same tiller as yourself. And it's a bear to hook it up. I've thought of buying one this summer if I can afford it. 78 yrs old this back doesn't like fighting with that darn PTO.
@HomesteadBandwagon
@HomesteadBandwagon Год назад
I'd be all over a system like that if I had the coin, for sure. I should look more seriously into it. It's way cheaper than a back surgery!

Hey man to take it off, do you level the shaft straight then take the shaft out first then remove the top and bottom pins ?
@HomesteadBandwagon
@HomesteadBandwagon 7 месяцев назад
I'll generally just lower the implement to the ground, take off the PTO shaft and then release the top link and lower links. I don't like to work on implements off the ground just in case something crazy happens and the implement shifts or drops without warning.
