Very thoughtful ideas explained clearly. I love instructors not afraid to question the sacred cows.

Great. Now I’m going to question almost everything I’m learning. I think that’s Kenny’s point… 🤔

After training full contact karate and judo for 6 years, the first 6 months of jui jitsu I'm noticing that nobody is protecting themselves from potential strikes. If all you ever study is jui jitsu, please keep this in mind.
@johnjacobs9753
@johnjacobs9753 Год назад
I don’t think anybody is neglecting that. These videos are from a pure BJJ perspective. Obviously if it’s a street fight, MMA sanctioned fight, etc., strikes are going to be anticipated.

Great video Ken Flo! We did a lot of shrimping in Judo and I love learning new things and trying them out versus doing the same thing all the time! Thanks!

Great video Kenny! Do you think shrimping is still a viable exercise to build bjj strength?
@KennyFlorian
@KennyFlorian 2 года назад
Not sure what you mean by “bjj strength” but I don’t think it’s necessary to practice it. Getting on the side of your hips and angling your body towards your oppt is a movement I would recommend in lieu of the shrimp. Thanks for your question.
@OlSkelee
@OlSkelee 2 года назад
@@KennyFlorian ill try that out, thanks
@rollinOnCode
@rollinOnCode 2 года назад
The shrimp is a basic movement pattern where you create space with hips by engaging pressure with the shoulders. It definitely is a good movement but most folks misuse it and use it inappropriately. It is the opposite movement of a bridge- when you do a bridge, you are creating space in the shoulders by engaging hip pressure

But Kenny, he WANTS you to post your arm so he can triangle/kimura that arm.

Kenny Florian, I disagree with these points. You’re a black belt and I’m just a brown belt but you disagree with people learning how to shrimp escape? Are you kidding? Your first point was that you can put your hands on the ground when their guard is open - ok? Nobody ever said you couldn’t. It’s only when the guard is closed and anyone who is teaching this knows why.
