When sparring with those who are inexperienced, I notice they mostly cling onto the guillotine for dear life. Gets very frustrating. Great video!

Joe Chalk it is common and frustrating, learn to stay patient and pass their guard with a head and arm grip then tap them with the Von Flue Choke ... They will learn quick to let go

exactly i dont know why they do it but it's frustrating 😂

Absolutely the clearest explanation as to why I will now keep my head up - I used to duck to avoid the guillotine - now I will kind of invite it by keeping head up.

Interested to know how that progress is going. What belt are you now?? Did you implement this into your game?

2016 video, but still very useful 5 years on. I started no gi grappling 4 months ago and I always get caught in the guillotine when going for takedowns. Watching this video is the best decision that I made. Thank you for the explanation.

Good video. I'd also like to see how to prevent the Guillotine in a single leg takedown cause that seems to be a little different
@gorillag2044
@gorillag2044 2 года назад
There is a new guy who always goes for the guilting from the open guard I watched a bunch of videos on escaping it. It's the same for standing version push head through not pull out cuz it gets tighter if you try to pull your head out. So push drive though and get into side control
@mrfuku1
@mrfuku1 2 года назад
One of my favorite set ups is to offer the guillotine while totally focusing on landing cross side gripping his strangle arm like in Bronx Tale now there’s no way out and then Von Flu. If he manages to recompose half guard I use my grip on his strangle hand to begin attacking Kimora and flow from there.
@tomellinger5087
@tomellinger5087 2 года назад
Is there any videos of this set up?
@mrfuku1
@mrfuku1 2 года назад
@@tomellinger5087 I haven’t seen an exact video but there must be many Von Flue choke videos where a double leg takedown is countered by a guillotine and securing top cross side control nullifies traditional guillotines. The first thing I attempt is to use my shoulder and neck as wedges to lock my opponent’s strangle arm in place while grabbing his wrist leaving no space to escape and I’ll finish the Von Flue. Kimora options are always there as well.
@mrfuku1
@mrfuku1 2 года назад
@@tomellinger5087 2:00 into this video shows the shoulder locking his arm in place but I use a shoulder crunch, rather than a swimming motion, this way my hand is free and always near the wrist to secure it and then apply the Von Flue ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GjhcPeIIvSs.html

great instructional, I'm just curious how you prevent from opponent jumping guard with a guillotine ??
@ZombieProofBJJ
@ZombieProofBJJ 5 лет назад
jim dagaris you just need to be aware of the option, I personally keep one hand near the hips for underhooks and one near the shoulder line to clear head grips or push away ... If they secure one treat it serious and go directly into guillotine escape mode
@luischavez1701

the head up during shots is taught religiously in wrestling, in wrestling they use it so you don't get buried below somebody's sprawl.

Great advice for the mats. Please tell me how you would adjust if you wanted to do a double leg in the street- without breaking your knee when you shoot in and land on concrete. Thank you coach.
@ZombieProofBJJ
@ZombieProofBJJ 5 лет назад
Mr Mann I’d never shoot a double in the street BUT if we are speaking hypothetically I’d make sure I impact the hips hard and I wouldn’t worry about my knees ever touching the ground (you can still do that with your head in good posture)
@MrChompy
@MrChompy 5 лет назад
@@ZombieProofBJJ Thank you for answering, I'm really impressed. So what's a good alternative takedown for the street, if not a double?
@ZombieProofBJJ
@ZombieProofBJJ 5 лет назад
Mr Mann run away, talk it out, judo, kick to the balls ... Fighting is a sure way to get hurt and should only be used if everything else is exhausted
@MrChompy
@MrChompy 5 лет назад
@@ZombieProofBJJ So no alternative technique?
@ZombieProofBJJ
@ZombieProofBJJ 5 лет назад
Mr Mann I would avoid street fights at all costs, I double likely wouldn’t be considered self defence anyway

Looks like this depends on the opponent being lighter than you, or at least you being strong enough to pick them up. Good technique - just wouldn't work for everyone.

Weight class appropriate of course, I've hit it on people larger than me but I'm sure there is a limit ;)
@CWReid

Excellent instruction! Also makes me feel confident about the caliber of our own instructor here in Texas. With a significant bump forward--even starting off with a head-outside single leg then changing to a double leg in the opposite direction--followed by driving forward, an opponent on their heels is not that hard to take down though it may look a little sloppier. It's a lot like a form tackle and I've taken down people twice my weight with a proper setup & timing.
