Conor McGregor: How To Be Confident Without Being Arrogant
Get Our Best Tip To Turning On Confidence In Just 60 Seconds:
goo.gl/AiIEjJ
Conor McGregor is one of the most confident athletes in the world. He displayed that confidence in his flawless victory over Eddie Alvarez in UFC 205. But even though Conor McGregor's confidence is one of the best traits you can have, arrogance is one of the worst. And the line between the two can be blurry. Some people are worried that if they become confident, they’ll cross the line into arrogance - or that even if they don’t other people will perceive their new confidence as arrogance.
In this video I want to help distinguish between true confidence and arrogant bravado
0:52 Don't talk if you can't back it up
1:01 Confidence is a statement while arrogance is a scream
2:55 Achieving more doesn't mean you're better than other people
4:05 Arrogance doesn't share the credit of success
5:04 Confidence is secure because it's based on reality

Cloud Strife No mate. That's just what reality TV demands of him. Well yeah he might be naturally grumpy, but the actual Gordon Ramsay, not the TV one, is actually incredibly charismatic. You see more of this Gordon Ramsay in some parts of the show Kitchen Nightmares, and his daughter Tilly's cooking show. His natural anger and hostility is just amplified tenfold for the purpose of TV. I mean, think about it, if you were actually like he is on Hell's Kitchen in real life, pretty much everyone would hate you, and no psychologically normal human even subconsciously wants that.
@RaynesX

How can you tell what's fake and real? He faces no repercussions because he's reach such a high level of success, and the people he behaves that way to are his subordinates who are relying on his "help". Don't talk like you know him. You just said "reality TV", so how are you justifying his other side as being his true self with more "reality TV" sources?

"I will" is arrogance. Miyamoto Musashi ( a man regarded as the greatest swordsman to ever live ), even after not losing a single fight in over 60 duels ( most to the death ) and multiple wars, said that no man is invincible. Saying "I will win" rules out the possibility of you losing, and the fact is there is ALWAYS a possibility of you losing because no one is invincible. This is why Conor McGregor lost his first fight against Diaz. He thought it was impossible for him to lose and for the first time in his career he was forced to humble himself and realize he can lose just as well as any other person can. As cocky as Mayweather makes himself out to be, his success came from the fact that even though he talked as if he underestimated his opponents, he never truly did underestimate his opponents. He ALWAYS outworked his opponents in terms of training and preparation. Before a fight, he would talk shit and say there's no way he can lose, and then train rigorously in the days leading up to the fight. You would think someone who was 100% certain they were going to win wouldn't spend several hours a day preparing for a fight, but the amount of work he put in shows that despite his words and competitive banter, he takes his opponents seriously and never brings anything less than his A-game whenever he steps into the ring because deep down, he knows he can lose if he doesn't.

I will is not arrogance, it's confidence. Arrogance is saying you will, then failing, and giving excuses. "I didn't have the time/X happened/I didn't have the right tools/not my fault" Another way to put it: I can lose, but I will win.

Great video, as always! I 100% realize you guys get a bunch of requests for videos, but I have a topic for you that has not been covered. It is also not about a person (which most requests are about). It is VERY personal and yet I think it could be helpful to a lot of people It is kind of hard to put into words, but I'll do my best..... Since I was a kid, I have strived to be a good person. By my definition, a good person is one who is kind, well-mannered, generous, etc. Basically someone who follows the "golden rule" (do unto others, etc). But almost as far back as I can remember, something about the way I present myself gives people the impression that I am a weak person. ....or at least that is how it seems. I seem to have a target on my back, because people seem to take advantage of my kindness, steal from me, act disrespectful towards me, act inconsiderately, etc often. More often than other people deal with, so it seems (unless most people just "bottle up" getting screwed over by miscellaneous people?). At one point in my life, my family told me that I complained too much, too often. So I made an active effort to not do that, and I don't complain at all nowadays, for the most part. I am generally a happy person, even when circumstances are not the best. I joke all the time, and I am often smiling (even when alone... lol). So at one time, I thought my attitude might have been the reason for the "target" on me. I don't subscribe to a "victim" mentality nowadays, as far as I know. But that begs the question, why do I seem to have the problem I mentioned? Why do I deal with people walking over me, treating me as an inferior, stealing, blah blah blah blah? Am I demonstrating weakness? Should I be more concerned with how to fix whatever is causing it or should I be trying to have thicker skin about it (recently got conned out of $300, hard to have thick skin about that... taking the guy to court, but still)? Is this a common issue with other people? If so, how to fix it? One thought of mine is that I am TOO nice, making people think I have ulterior motives.. In that case, how does one tone that down? It is kind of "embedded" in who I am, it is a fundamental part of all my values, beliefs, etc. I can't really even fathom not being kind to people, but I also can't imagine what toning it down would even look like. I also don't want to deal with this crap from people for decades and decades until I die (assuming I am lucky enough to live that long). So anyways, I guess the video would be something along the lines of "How To Be Nice (But Not Too Nice)" or something. Excited to hear your tips/thoughts, see the vid (if you happen to make it). or check out any books/articles/other videos you might be able to recommend about this. Hope to hear back, and much appreciated! -EJ

@ej5364

***** I know what you're saying, and I do act that way. I used to be really concerned with what people thought of me, to a point of neediness. I would go out of my way for other people all the time, and I'd end up frustrated that it would go unnoticed (seemingly) most of the time. After years of dealing with that whole scenario, I have kept in mind that I need to take care of me before I worry about anyone else, and I have acted through that. I think I do help people in the way you are talking about, but can you give me an example anyways? I grew up as a "problem solver" type of person, and it has definitely carried on into my adult life. But I am all about teaching people, rather than doing things for them. I don't have the time to do favors. I'm just generally energetic, kind, and well-mannered (most of the time).

Pretty much the same for me, the way I look at is the age old saying, "Nice guys finish last." I still struggle with this, but after string of bad events in the past year i've kinda hardened who I am. I'm nice and still follow the golden rule, "treat others how you'd like to be treated." But i also do so with caution, I just slow down and think a little more about the things I do, Plus I really choose wisely the ppl I let close into my life. I analyze who they are and really focus on how it would be helping others, if i chose to do this action for someone. As Shimassi said, Sometimes it's more helpfully to let the person help them self, than it is for you to do the heavy lifting. Truly, I know how you feel. I'm a big guy, and I have a decent amount of confidence in myself and my abilities, so I was never really bullied. But I've been screwed over so much it's not even funny. Theft, friends walking on me using me, Girls in every way, and much more. But this last years really beat me down, and it took a long while to build myself back up, and i'm still not 100%, but I have figured out the problem with me atleast. It's about knowing your self worth, Once you know how much your worth, don't let ppl treat you like less, otherwise they shouldn't be in your life. I can tell you when you shut those doors on those ppl, most the time, they come after you apologizing, at that point It's your choice to allow them back in. For me, i'll give ppl a second chance because I would want that, but If I really wanted that second chance I would put the effort in. If they don't, they never get a third. Hope this helps, Best of luck.

Conor McGregor is a VERY clever individual. He realises that confidence (and building confidence through practice, hard work and skill) is the key to winning a fight, but arrogance (or perceived arrogance in this case) is an unbelievably powerful tool for selling and promoting a fight. He can flit between the two in a heartbeat to achieve his desired outcome and it's served him very well. Underneath it all though, I think his natural state is confidence rather than arrogance. Lot of respect for him.

At Press Conference he is arrogant because he wants to hype his fans up. Sometimes he does that by throwing someone under the bus, but press conferences are kind of boring if you don't have someone to hype you up. Press conferences are supossed to be boring, but it's still nice if you have someone that gets you hyped. I'm not the biggest McGregor fan, but he truly is confident in what he says and does. And now that he has himself in such a position where the UFC needs him, almost as much as he needs an organization like the UFC, he can start calling the shots.

@enochteo5243
@enochteo5243 7 лет назад
Grabbing the belt shows arrogance, yes it does, but you realise he's doing it in front of a crowd of people. He's literally hyping the fight by trying to create more beef. As the vid talked about, the less cameras there are, the less people watching, the more toned down and confident he is. In front of a bunch of people, he's just hyping the fight game so that UFC can sell more tickets. McGregor is the highest paid athlete in the UFC and it's because his fights always sell the most. It's basically his job to be arrogant at press conferences etc.

Hey Charlie! What's your opinion on social media and how it's affecting your self-esteem and your state of mind. Because sometimes i catch myself really comparing to other people or wasting time scrolling. Then i'll just delete Instagram and Snapchat for a couple of days to stop doing that. I'm really curious about your point of view on social media. Have a great day. ✌️️

Awesome job Charisma on Command! Self-worth is identified by your skills (reality) and your opinions (perception), Low-Self-esteem (lacking skills) + Big Ego (Imagining you’re superior) = Arrogance (lying to oneself to feel better and not acknowledging ones weaknesses and insecurities), Solid-Self-esteem (having skills) + Ego (Knowing that you’re trying your best) = Confidence (Being honest with oneself, discovering your problems and always improving on them), Once you are confident, don’t think you’re better than others but mentor and give good advice's in a kind and humble way like this guy on Charisma on Command. (Girls love that as well! they like it when you can guide them to be better versions of them self, but improve yourself first lol) One thing to increase your confidence is to be harsh with yourself, talk aloud to yourself (on a walk or something) and then go and improve on your problems that you want to fix. When others will be harsh with you, you’ll try to be defensive and be all arrogant. Develop a habit of listening, everyone can help you improve, just ask the right question and learn from them instead of being jealous. Ask Indirect questions and be appreciative when you see someone who you like and learn from them.

Wow, this is a much-needed wake up call for me. I wouldn't say that I am fully arrogant, I definitely don't go around with bravado, im usually pretty chill. I think that have a balance of both of these traits though. I am very willing to admit being wrong about things if proven to be wrong, but i have caught my self having a moral superiority to people when it comes to politics, which isn't the right mind set. I often place my self-worth in my opinions and skills, and as a result I often feel threatened when i see some one doing better than me in my field instead of just feeling happy for that persons success and focusing on what i could learn from them. I don't think i would ever become arrogant in the loud and brash sort of way, but i can recognise the fact that i don't have very good self-esteem, and as a result I may sometimes lean towards arrogant mentalities and thoughts.

Very interesting video, considering that I watched McGregor's win recently and heard, prior to the fight, of my friends' opinions of him and how cocky he is. It's easy to dislike his arrogant persona, but it's clear that he respects his opponent in the ring and after the fight. And he does back up what he says with real skill. I don't necessarily agree with his choice to become bombastic before fights to promote them, however I respect the hard work he has clearly put in to be at the top. Thanks for the food for thought!

Conor does seem to be that combination of arrogance and confidence and they both play a part in his success. In an interview, one on one, with Ariel Helwani, pre fight against Diego, he said something to the effect, that he struggled with being a "role" model, because his goal was to go into the octagon and destroy another man's dreams. That must be weird to reconcile, that other's have to be "destroyed" for your own success. But that's the fight game.

Confidence can turn into arrogance pretty easily, i experienced on myself. If you get really fkn good at something at some point you can feel like you can conquer the world, and it can boost your ego really quickly, which turns into lack of respect of the competitors, therefore lack of results and then all you're left with is what you were and you brag about that to just hide what you are.

The following is my opinion, and it might easily be wrong, however I made sure to base my claims on the sources like dictionary.com to make sure that my arguments have an objective base. 1.the line between confidence and arrogance is not blurry at all, it's a rather crisp, straight, fat black line. I believe that people who think otherwise probably have never read the definition of the term "confidence" and the term "arrogance" respectively. Whether one is able to back up his talk or not has nothing to do with the difference between confidence and arrogance, it has to do with a third term unrelated to these two, called "success". Confidence - "belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities" (does not include flaunting it outside and bragging about it nor whether one has ultimately succeeded in backing it up or not, just the simple state of belief) Arrogance - "offensive display of superiority or self-importance". (it says DISPLAY, and an offensive one at that, so it clearly includes the flaunting and bragging, yet it does not include the success state of backing it up). So THAT'S the difference between the two - the public display of it, not "being able to back it up". All in all, one is to say "I believe in myself and I think I can win, but we will see what happens" and other is to say "I'mma beat the heck out of him, I'mma KO him cold in 20 seconds, I'mma make his fans cry and clean up the arena, I'mma do this, I'mma do that...". 2.Conor McGregor is a great example of the most negative version of arrogance there is, so I find the title of this video a bit absurd. No offense meant, I'm just trying to fight for truth with arguments. 3.In my opinion, there is no such a thing as "a nice guy who's just acting like an arrogant one to promote the fight". I believe that that's got to be one of the biggest and most absurd myths ever. The reason is simple and logical - if you are willing to throw away your dignity, humbleness, respect and moral values in order to promote the fight, then you never were a good and a nice guy in the first place. Good and nice guys (like Fedor Emelianenko, for example) simply do not throw away their dignity and moral values for fame and money. That's what prostitutes usually do. Conclusion: Is Conor confident? - obviously to some extent. Is Conor arrogant? - Oh yes! In my opinion he might easily be the third most arrogant guy in the entire MMA world (the #1 is Dana White and the #2 is Chael Sonnen, in my opinion). Is Connor a great fighter? - Yes definitely! Certainly not the best in LW division, in my opinion, and has certainly not deserved his title shot, but a great fighter nonetheless. Do I want to see him getting ragdolled and badly beaten so he could finally eat all his arrogant and insulting words? - Yes :) Sincerely yours, -Fan of Khabib Nurmagomedov ;)
