lily pennvellyn Well. I wish I found it hilarious when I was watching this. I was dead set on doing some research on how to be goth, and just finding a funny video about it got me pissed. Should have stuck to reading blogs.
Sully Gutierrez lol, yeah, searching for information on goth culture and history will get better and more accurate results than searching "how to be goth"
To be goth you have to feel inside you it is a Feeling it's not a style it's not a way of telling people I'm cool you have to feel it it's you who you are inside that comes to the outside
I wanna admit this. I watched this back in middle school to get idea for goths. I cringe so much cause of how I was back then. I'm 22 now & have a way better understanding, & I went back to goth style, this time with my own unique style.
I feel sort of bad as when I was around 11, I watched this stupid video as a "guide" since I got interested in Goth at that age. I have always loved all things dark, "weird" as non-Goth people quote, and unusual (when I was young I preferred witches and vampires over Disney princesses!) and I liked wearing black. People kept calling me Goth so I thought, "Why not? I'll look into it." And this video actually did make me fall in love with the subculture. Now don't judge me yet. Stupid since this video only listed stereotypes, but this video peaked my interest and afterwards, I looked deeper and researched more. I'm 16 now and now a proud member of the Goth subculture... though I still have a lot to learn. I HATE this video now, but still... I'm thankful I found it 'cause I wouldn't be Goth without it. ^_^
Mimi Walshy dude I was same, I was into goth and with my tomboy but not knowing how to anything cuz I didn’t like makeup up I was confused. I’m now a goth tomboy wearing boys clothes while it being all black, I do like to wear boots from time to time and I wear only mascara brown and white eyeshadow and black lipstick
we are actually quite cheerful people (mostly) express yourself with black but dont over do it dont be goth to shock your parents, fit in, or to be different be goth in your own oponion
This is really stereotypical. My whole school considers me goth but I'm not even goth, and I'm sure that this probably offends a few people. Don't like don't watch I guess...
Guys the gothic subculture isn't about death! Its about self expression and lots of other equal things, so stop stereotyping them, they aren't bad people, in fact most of them don't believe in Satan. A lot of them don't talk about death, and a lot of them don't want to die, they enjoy life like the rest of us!
I've been a trad goth for half my life, and I find this hilarious. If you're getting offended by this, you seriously oughtta lighten up. Life is loads more fun if you learn to make fun of your own stereotype and accept that, yeah, it's sorta ridiculous and theatrical, but that's why it's so much fun to do! Sure, it's baby bat material, but those baby bats will either realize it's not for them and move on or learn what subsect is most in fitting with their tastes. It's a pretty good blank slate.
What a lode of crap... This was so offensive... Ugh, not to sound butt-hurt here but this was a total pose on Gothic.. Us goths don't ware black nail polish or dress in black to be goth. We just are goth. Goth is a state of mind. You cant justify goth by black and death.. Not to lie, goths are usually infatuated by those things but that is not what makes you a goth. Sure you can dress in all black and ware your black nail polish but in all reality, you are not a goth if you really think that dressing up is all it takes. This video was a sin.
This video makes it seem like goth is all about looks, misery, death, depression and stuff like that. That is certainly not the case! If anything, goth is a mindset and you don't really decide to be goth, it's who you are inside, you can't "become" it. Further, lots of goths are very very happy, nice, polite, funny... Just look at kazlovesbats on RU-vid, she's adorable, funny, intelligent, generally just a positive force in the world!
I watched this back in middle school. Yes, I went though a goth phase in middle school & beginning of high school Edit: I haven't completely dropped it cause I absolutely love the style. I have my hair dyed & getting my nose repierced (I lost my nose ring when trying to change it so I'm getting a stud)
I'm not goth, but I know how big the sub culture is And how much it means to people...if you're ever wanting to educate people on things, make it respectful. If you cared or had a pastion for something you wouldn't want someone to make fun of it. Even if it's a joke.
Hello! A goth here! I actually am a very sweet and friendly person (as ive been told) and the only thing that I do differently is style. I like the goth style and music but i honestly dont do anything else "goth" like skskskks
@raisersofhell No,the original Goths were a group of Germanic Norse barbarians. They are noted for their attacks on civilized Rome and thus coined their name, Goth, as an insult interchangeable with the word barbaric. During the Renaissance the calling of religious structures as Gothic merely implied that they were barbaric in what the times had come to for architecture. The word goth has changed so much throughout time and it nowadays applies people who listen to Goth or dress in the style.
@TormentedCurse They didn't called me goth... but they called me a young bohemian. I'm a bit allergic to make up but turns out I don't get allergic to tattoo's ink. I'm a link between goth and bohemian! About your goth state, I'm totally agree. To be honest... black nail polish are awesome! :3
@bluebunny510 if you feel that you are goth, deep down inside, then it'll come out all on it's own. don't seek it out. and you can be goth no matter what race. don't ever let that get in your way.
It's not about nonconformity. That is just what the mainstream media makes it out to be so it is easier to mock. I do not dress the way I do to make a statement of nonconformity. I do it because I like the way it looks, it has nothing to do with anyone else's opinion.
I can sometimes go through a faze when I'm kinda gothic or a little emo. I just start muttering to myself how life even matters if were all going to die in a certain way or how come we just turn into particles of dust and fly through the air of our favorite cities. I don't go to crazy on the gothic stuff. I am going to buy a spiked collar or wristband someday but I just wear dark makeup, those stretchy black things that go on your arms, black tights, and jorts or a skirt.
@TheGabbyrockz First, it would be nice if you could actually type correctly. Second, to answer your question "what shuld I do?" is be yourself. You can't become goth over night. You're only 12 anyway. Experiment with what feels right and looks right to your taste.
I'm suprised at how sort-of accurate this was... for a howcast video. The only thing I don't understand is, how did "teen" and "teenagers" end up in the tags? I've NEVER met a real authentic goth who was under the age 18, and plus you have to be at least 21 to get into most goth clubs...
ive been told by most of the people my age im goth. honey, this isnt goth. yes i wear black. i listen to slipknot and gorillaz and korn and system of a down.my nails are either black purple or red usually. my hair is blonde with dark blue ends. im very social and friendly. i smile and laugh like every human. im goth not because its cool or "no one gets me". my dads dying and i enjoy the music and clothing. it relaxes me.
Step one: be yourself and don't try to be something you are not. Also, don't believe horrid stereotypes. There are so many "goths" that say things like "I dont smile" thats not what goth is.
Some of us do some don't depends on the Gothling, I'm a Goth and I find to be stereotypical, but people can say whatever they want, won't do nothing about it.
Remember kiddies, goth isn't just a fashion statement, it is a philosophy. If you view the world with a certain morbid sense of humor, treat all people with the same sarcastic disdain, and have an overwhelming urge to create ANYTHING. You don't have to wear all black cause you're goth on the inside. And any mortician will tell you "Its whats on the inside that counts..."
Sure, didn't say people shouldn't try to be themselves, just that being yourself doesn't mean you're goth ^^ It's a clothing style, mostly, with a pinch of unique personality. :)
Where do I start? How about the death thing? Not all goths are obsessed with death, that's like saying we're all suicidal. All black? Yes, I have more darker colors in my closet, but the black shirt I'm wearing has pink roses on it. In fact, my favorite color is purple. I don't own a corset or military boots, and rarely wear make up. Plus, we don't want to look like pandas. The book thing: I like to read, and I like to study religion, and sometimes philosophy, but I don't spend time reading ab
The Goth look is not as important as the Goth mindset. I don't look Goth, but in my mind, I am completely Goth. I do enjoy the dark things, and Bauhaus. :3
''to be continued'' becuase adults would do whatever it takes to defend themselves and if being good is supposed to come being bullied. than my suggestion is to everyone on this internet is learn to fight back. i don't care what others say about how wrong wrong-doing is and usually it is but i remember the real god saying something about ''self preservation'' ^_^ ! ! ! ! !
im just trying to find out whats wrong with black its just another color wearing it doesnt really make u goth its JUST A COLOR it doesnt signify anything
Actually pretty straightforward. People tell me i cant be much darker im prettu pale and wear black alot and lots of silver and wear boots all the time and alot of the facts are true 2/3 is completely correct ^^
