Has anyone noticed that people in BF1 just shoot at tanks with their regular gun? Like I get if this is your first Battlefield game but I mean come on, it's a tank. This is pretty much common sense...
To be honest I think it has something to do with people shooting at the red icons when that's all they can see. I'm guilty of this when defending a position. I quickly realise it's a tank and leg it.
One tip you forgot: Always go down with the ship! There's been a few times where an enemy tanker gets out becuase he's about to die, then I kill him and steal his tank and start wrecking the enemy team with it. This is especially true for the heavy tank becuase anyone can use the quick repair function.
and always finish them off if the driver jumps out and you cant get to it. too many times ive repaired my tank from 5 hp because the enemy for some reason assumed the threat was neutralised
David Johnsen I love it when the enemy is stupid enough to get out because there afraid I'm gonna kill them.Shit I'm still killing them and even worse I steal his tank, fix it and go on and kill everyone in their team thanks to them.I really use enemy tanks to my advantage.
Sometimes it makes sense to bail to either throw an anti tank grenade at the enemy tank when it is too close for comfort or when you are far away from danger and need to repair your vehicle very badly. You repair quicker than a single enemy tank can damage you. I had situations already where I couldn't destroy a tank even with a full "magazine" of shells because the tanker was repairing it from behind, or I had situations where I knew the next hit would kill me and I couldnt wait for the reload, then I jumped out and threw an anti tank grenade to finish the enemy. In short: Be smart about what you do and do everything with the goal to use your vehicle and class to its maximum rather than being a pussy not wanting to die.
I've had one guy , not actually play as infantry but just wait in the death screen for a tank.. and even switch team to get one back, and the heavy tank is 'balanced' Ps, he had 100 service stars (at least) and dropped 100+ kills two games in a row.
tnnss111 When everyone on your team plays Sniper then no wonder why the heavy tank dominates the game. I think it's fine where it is. People just need to learn to take out the tanks.
tnnss111 totally agree with you. it should take a full dedicated squad to take down a tank. I am very surprised a guy like levelcap does not know how DICE is measuring the balance. It is done on squad level not individual soldier. It should take a full dedicated and commited squad to take down the most powerful vehicle of the game. The attack against the tank should be well organized and timed.
MegaManiac 101 I kinda feel more towards not having any third person. You don't have that luxury when on foot so people inside a giant metal box having more visibility and a lot more damage and power doesn't seem right.
I'm getting really, REALLY tired of 90% of the tanks on the field being heavy tanks that do nothing but sit back and rack up 40 killstreaks and go MVP just because they point and click at the enemy.
I don't think the tanks should be able to fire accurately from 3rd person. Like in BF4, the third person aiming reticle was awful on purpose. This would reduce the power of tanks a bit in this game, because it's OP to have a huge field of view and the ability to fire accurately from 3rd person.
Or, remove 3rd person alltogether. I don't get why AAA games that used to be first person mainly use more and more third person elements. Like, the planes in BF1 can be used purly in third person without any disadvantages.
+Spethman Jones Well, I mean in Titanfall 2, players do actually wonder why the whole "Getting into a titan" animation now is all in third person instead of first person like the original was. I think the original one nailed it much better because of the perspective. Now it feels so "Disconnected". Or what about Battlefront that is so heavily build around third person that the U-Wing, both walkers, all heroes and combat rolling don't support first person? I mean, you could always play Hardcore which forces first person, but it changes to many other things that it isn't worth changing the mode just for that unless you absolutly like the higher weapon damage, friendly fire ect.
Tanks shouldn't even have a third-person view. It's a huge advantage and nullifies the greatest weakness of tanks, namely that they have poor close-range vision, along with providing unintended exploits like the "tank headglitch". I'd be so for just removing that as an option for all vehicles.
The Howitzer Light Tank is actually really good if you can keep moving and outflank the enemies. It has both a machine gun that lasts really long before overheating, and a super powerful cannon that deals a ton of damage. If the enemy tanks are already taking damage I can usually get them in one or two shots from a distance and because of the drop from the cannon rounds, you can arc the shots over cover that they can hit you from. Plus it's got smoke and instant repair!
I'm level 60 and I am not lvl 10 with all classes. If progression is the only thing that keeps you playing then you just should stop playing the game. Even if you have everything unlocked you should always enjoy matches, that's what makes a game good, and I can definately see myself do that in bf1!
Heavy tank definitely needs a nerf, it's far to powerful and requires little skill to actually use. The quick-repair/emergency repair shouldn't be given to the heavy tank at all. It's ridiculous they even have have it to begin with. Light tanks are okay as they are I think. Landship needs a buff of some sort, hardly ever see them, and they seem very easy to take down. Even when using the landship as a squad with communication the thing is terrible
DeltaWolf1000 lol I agree The second I first jumped into a heavy tank and saw it had quick repair I was genuinely confused I wasn't sure if it was like a glitch or something XD
Jared Lucus Heavy tanks having quick-repair is just over-powered and downright stupid. The best vehicle in game having something which makes it even more powerful is stupid. The Heavy Tank definitely needs a nerf of some sort
No Name the fact all vehicles except the heavy tank can be taken out by one clever assault player says it all, the heavy tank can take all of your equipment and still kill you, and ride on. In the fairest way possible, 2 anti tank grenades and 4 rocket gun shots should take a tank out! Furthermore, what's which richochet shots? I hit the side and get 2 damage..
I feel like the 3 main tanks should be rock/paper/scissors. The Landship should be the DPS dealer, capable of taking out heavy tanks easily because of it's twin cannons. The Heavy tank is the "Tank" capable of taking multiple hits but cannot do crazy damage. The light tank should be fast and agile, capable of climbing hills and getting flanks on lanships but get absolutely destroyed by heavy tanks because of their low damage and armor. So my adjustments would be: More damage to Landships cannons and a speed buff to the light tank with a slight reduction in armor. Maybe remove a bit to the quick repair to the heavy tank to make a bit easier to take out in combat if the tank doesn't backout.
then again, the quality of players on PC means that there's an actual front established for you to push with whereas on console it's just a huge clusterfuck
Doing well with a tank is really down to one thing: be conservative. Never go into the middle of anything. Stay on the edges of the engagements. Rep whenever you have the chance. Always check the floor for mines. Do all of that and you'll be that guy in operations who goes 52-0 every time
Not only tanks but planes going 80+ kills in a match. Planes and tanks are OP as the means to take them out are few compared to past Battlefield games.
No Name tank camping is sitting in your spawn point where the defending team can't get to you but you can shoot at them. Usually on a slope where it's almost impossible to hit you more than once.
Booch 4 Snooch I would think it would be smart to sit back in vehicles not driving balls to the wall into the middle of the fight. only do that when there are plenty of friendlies and then that is a big IF.
I just feel like its pointless to try and solo a tank when you throw 3 Anti Tank Grenades and hit it with a few AT Rockets and it just drives off like it was nothing.
Pablo Horteg I'm not saying you should kill them easily by yourself. It's still a tank we are talking about here. But three anti tank grenades plus four anti tank rockets should be able to kill the tank if you hit them all. The auto repair pretty much makes it extremely difficult at times. On game modes like Operations where you can have 2-3 tanks pushing up at one time it would be nice if the damage you have done to the tank actually meant something. Take out the auto repair and I feel like it would be more balanced overall.
I think there should be more incentive to use the Landship. I don't see people using it, and when they do, the rest of the team calls them useless. You think they should've made the tank type unlockable with the tanker class rank? like default everyone gets the Landship, Tanker class 3 they get the Arty Trucks, Rank 7 they get the FT-17 and Rank 10 they get the A7V? I feel like I see too many A7Vs in the game
the landship is useless for a few reasons. 1: its nearly impossible for shells to ricochet off, so its really easy to aim at/hit. 2: it can't wall hack with its powerful guns, since they are gunners seats and are stuck in 1st person (granted, this isn't a bad thing. The bad thing is that the other tanks CAN wall hack) 3: it trades about 20% health for those 2 guns, meaning it only has 75-80% of the durability a heavy tank does. 4: you can only cover 180 degrees even with a full tank, unless you have the squad support variant, and 5 people inside, and even then the driver has to stop the tank and switch seats to cover the rear 5: its slow enough that infantry can run up and throw dynamite on it even if you are driving away full speed. 6: its fucking huge which makes it hard to get in tight hiding spots, and super easy to hit. 7: the main guns can barely see in front of the tank, so you can only really use 1 at a time. All things considered, its still a really fun tank, and I personally prefer the squad support landship over any other tank if I'm playing with friends, but due to the basically broken balance of tanks, it just really isn't the tactical choice when you're much better off exploiting the heavy tank.
Which is why I proposed the unlocking of tanks via tanker class level. So that people will start off with the Landship, then as time goes on, they'll either get used to it or progress to the better tanks. This MIGHT mean that DICE might need to reset the tanker class level just to implement this, but if it get the Landship more uses, I'm okay with it.
Having to unlock the tanks wouldn't solve the balance issue. It would merely create a situation where high level players have a huge advantage over low level players. Just nerf the heavy tank's self-healing.
Landships are fine for the most part, In slugfests with 2 sponsons they will win vs a heavy very reliably. AT landships win vs other tanks so hard its almost unfair, And has emergency repairs on top of it. It's a teamwork weapon, And when teamwork is used it's an amazing weapon.
I hate when im going to spawn on a tank and it just loads,,then it says that there are 0 tanks available, after that i see that someone else took it...just fuck it
Daniel f emm no, I don't know where you are getting that idea from, when he talks about that stuff he talks about for the reason that it's benefiting for everyone so please think before commenting
"there is a counter its not op". yeah and there is a counter for the sentry class as well. now lets assume u could spawn in with the sentry. would it still not be op? i mean u can bayonet charge it right? -.-
How to beast with a tank .... just get in one and kill. Imo the heavy tank should lose its healing spell . Landship does not stand a chance. Oh yea dont be that guy with 100 service stars or everytime you play you wait for a tank and just that.
those people are cancer. Like yeah A+ for helping your team but people play to have fun. let someone else have a go with a tank, and give the enemy team a fuckin break for gods sake.
MrJonathanrockz Exactly. I was playing operations the other night, and some asshole was sitting in his spawn with a tank with a 100 service stars on it. He went 75-0.
+blackops1228ps3 I hate that they implemented the service stars in the killscreen again. Now you can feel twice the humiliation when you die to someone who plays a bit too much.
Jonathan Lee Hm but that is really hard to do and takes some luck. And compared to heli in bf4 that were quite resistance to damage in bf1 you can take the bombers down so easily.
The bomber IS quite vulnerable, you just have to keep practicing, luck isn't everything. I will kill 4-6 heavies in a game when playing well. Ideally you have some good gunners, and you want to do evasive maneuvers when you come under fire - too many bomber pilots just try to out-fly AA and get shot down. If you sneak around on a wide flank, there's a decent chance a tank won't notice you; then you can bomb them from on high, no need to get low.
I don't even feel bad when I'm bombing, you are much closer to PTFO-ing than say, that guy in the artillery truck at the back of the map. It's especially cool on operations when you break up an attack on one of the objectives and save it for your team. Or when you have people in the comments requesting air support on tanks - epic moments.
Jonathan Lee If everything you do the whole game as a bomber is killing heavy tanks and are good at it you are a blessing for your team. The thing is that the bomber takes skill and good gunners to be effective where as in bf4 a decent heli pilot alone could do the same.
Ohhh...I just love the heavy tanks....bombing from above. When I see it from the bomber, Im hoping that it will be full (6 soldiers). getting 6 kills from a bombing run is pretty nice. Tanks are not OP, you can destroy them in 1 run.
DeltaWolf1000 Bombers are flying fortresses. Bomber has enough damage to fly against an AA and bomb it. It can take you out only if you miss the bombs. Other planes are also easy to kill with tail gun. You can hop to tail gun an deal with other aircrafts, just dont forget to pull the nose of the bomber.
Oliver Toronyi I tend to disagree about the tail gun thing. I've learnt how to avoid the tail gunners on bombers, or at least am figuring it out. I don't fly the bomber, but as infantry torn them to shreds with AA (Which I feel are a little to good right now).
Why do you hate tanks so my much? Destroying tanks is super easy ! You can use all the smoke and shit you want. I "playing with friends" can destroy your tank is seconds. Stop complaining about tanks. Tanks are fine. The Shotgun tho.
Carlos Tapanes the only prob with this comment is that not everyone has "friends" to play with or some people can't afford mics to interact with fellow teammates so yeah there bad when teamed up on but on a 1v1 of course a tank should win but if you unleash 3 at rockets and 2 AT grenades AND a light anti tank Grenade only for him/her to be left with 10 health left then quickly repair him/herself and kill you is ridiculous
SGTM i understand because sometimes i play solo but tanks are fine maybe reduce the smoke a little bit so you can see the tank better. I don't think i solo assault player should be able to destroy a tank. Tanks should be fearful and powerful.
DICE has to nerf the heavy tank. They should really reduce it's health and let everything stay the same. Right now heavy tanks are all I see. Rarely any light or medium tanks. The light tank goes down in say 3 shots. The Landship can't take more than 4. Heavy shouldn't take more than 5 but right it can take as much as 7 considering not all shots do max damage and so many richochet. It's AT shot is also way more powerful than other tanks' AT shot. And it's very difficult to flank too because of machine guns on all sides. Also yes tanks need to be scary. People should be able to go on killstreaks with then. But only THOSE who are even moderately skilled at it, cos right now I see noobs going 30-0 with a heavy tank and they're not even PTFOing.
Since I have not gotten to the vehicles of Battlefield 1 yet, I can't say anything about that stats of these weapons, but I can attest to the fact that the Heavy tank is all I see these days. Sometimes you see a landship and once in a blue moon a light tank, but generally everyone just uses the heavy tank. I personally would like to see more landships, because those are pure teamwork and are much more interesting to take on as an infantry player.
HeavyHanded agreed, only time I get frustrated is when I'm the only assault player trying to destroy it, 2 assault players with the help of a support can take it out in no time
manav bhalla that's stupid why do you think it's called a heavy tank? Here's my solution 1. The heavy tank should have a speed meter when it starts moving it starts off slow then it moves faster each few seconds kinda like the speed of the A soldier moving while prone or like the armored train behemoth 2. The heavy tank should have a cannon round just a single round just like the land ship 3. The heavy tank should have a armor bar just like the health bar when the armor bar goes to zero it means you have no protection to High explosives so Anti-tank gadgets should do even more damage like 30-40 this armor bar can only be repair outside the vehicle instead of inside 1. It would be OP if you can repair the armor inside 2. It doesn't make sense how you're repairing the amor inside the vehicle I have also had a problem with the side guns 1. It should have the infinite symbol it show how many bullets you have like for the side guns LMGs it should be 50/-- instead of the infinite symbol this is so you know how many bullets you have and you have to reload instead of waiting after the gun has overheated this should be for all the LMGs, AA guns And the Behemoth guns
After the patch i can safely say that the Heavy Tank is still OP. The landship buff is well deserved but the light tank is way too weak. They don't need to buff it to its godly beta days but the light tank should either recieve a 5th AT shell or at most increase the emergency repair , or maybe let the light tank repair faster than others since its much smaller
Another tip I find good is that the canister shell is good at damaging planes that fly by, and is more accurate at hitting them than the normal tank shell
The tank hunter landship is the best. If the enemy team gets a behemoth I always try to get a landship. It gets you so many points if you hide near the back of the map or behind cover and wreck the behemoth (especially the airship because you can shoot off those gunner positions super easily).
I have over 1700 kills via the heavy tank. I mainly drive it solo. Every once in a while I'll have a squad mate in there basically to help keeping it repaired. I love this tank.
Great video thx! Funny how that third person view mechanic works the opposite way in the light tank which is what I mainly use. I'm gonna start using the HVT more often cause up till now, I've only really jumped in them as a side gunner.
There is a very important pount you missed levelcap, the gun is not firing the same ammunition on every loadout. The heavy breakthrough tank is firing Armor Piercing, almost no splash vs infantry but higher speed and better damage on vehicles. The two other are firing High Explosives, less damage on vehicles but good splash on infantry Using the canister on the heavy breakthough tank is almost mandatory since your shell will have a hard time killing infantry except direct hits.
I feel like the Heavy Tank is good for the solo players, but if you have 2 friends with mics, the Landship is a better alternative. You can weave back and forth so that both main cannons can be used against the one cannon of the Heavy Tank. Then depending on the variant, the tank hunter will outgun a Heavy Tank, or the Support Landship gives you two machine gun slots on the side as well as a driver accessible gun to the rear. And it can drop med/ammo crates, and has an emergency track repair to get yourself unstuck. But you need good teammates for this to work. Otherwise, go Heavy/Light Tank
the landship tank hunter kit is good for taking out the heavy tanks, you just need a gunner on either side and in 2 hits from your small cannon and one from your gunner, the heavy dies
I find the Flanker Light Tank to be OP as it has a non cooldown quick reload which can kill anything, kills tanks slowly, but it can easily kill infantry, planes and the Train Behemoth, I remember i had 6 mines layed out on the track, the instant it ran over my first 3 I put 3 more down, so in quick succession I took out like over 1/3 it it's health, then just kept putting more and more mines down and shooting it with the explosive shots, killed the train in like 5 minutes. Also can easily take out the Blimp as well in 5 Minutes constantly breaking the gondolas killing anyone in them and the engines, so disgustingly satisfying. It can also do a "head glitch" where in 3rd person if behind a sand dune, small hill or a rock, you can shoot enemies but they can't shoot you because for some reason the shots don't come out of the barrel in 3rd person but instead above the turret
As a support i find the best place to repair the tank, directly on top of it, standing prone while repairing and spamming w to not fall while the tank is moving. And to help the team dropping ammo and also using smoke nades when needed to cover up the tank retreat, in amiens i 90% of the time win, juse because of this.
If the heavy tank did not have the instant repair ability it would be more balanced. 30 hp can recover a heavy tank from a direct field gun hit, whereas 30 hp is barely 1 well-placed antitank grenade for a light tank.
The reason why the shell actually originates from the camera in 3rd person is probably to prevent situations where you think you can hit someone but you actually hit an obstacle because it's below your line of sight. But honestly, this would seem a fair tradeoff for having better all around visibility. It could also be done like in World of Tanks (which i think Levelcap has mentioned) where the reticle sticks to that obstacle instead of always being at the centre of the screen.
light howitzer tank is also good if we like to chillin just alone, it has 30 hp instant repair too and powerful cannon that takes 35 damage to heavy tank
You forgot to mention that the breakthrough variant comes with AP shells, that have almost no splash but increased damage against vehicles + the passenger guns on it can damage armored targets as well.
this video was fantastic i have been wanting to do better with the tank and this video helped me up my game considerably went 41/0 in my last game thanks for the tips
Guys, a full landship costumized with the armorpiercing shots wich the driver have acces to is probabley the most powerfull tank. Double machine guns, double canons and a powerfull armor piercing gun with splashdamage given to the driver.
I've found that the best way to win a tank battle is being able to shoot first. Being able to see the other tank and shoot first can often be the deciding factor
I honestly think 3x dynamite or 3x mine should be enough to destroy a 100% health heavy tank. I also think a nice idea would be for the limpet charge to disable repairing function. You really have to go out of your way to deploy that thing (if the tank driver plays safe) that it's usually not worth it.
The flamethrower is so damn OP, and I don't mean it in the "Its just really good and I die all the time" way, but the range seems to be twice as long as the visible flames. So basically, the flames are much too far away to even touch me and it sets me on fire nonetheless
I love tanks, but I would also like to play as tanker without having to spawn in a tank. My favourite gun is in the tanker class and I have now resorted to abandoning planes and tanks to use it. It just doesn't feel right
favorite thing to do in the heavy tank is to sidescrape against a building and bait other tanks into shooting at me. They waste all of there shells and I can get repaired, and seeing them panic as I chase them with full HP an ammo is glorious.
surprised you didn't mention the power of a fully decked out anti-tank assault class as a passenger. at least against other heavy tanks, even 1 assault class passenger with AT rocket gun/AT grenades/light AT grenade can do over half a tank's health in damage in less than 5 seconds. deploying one assault class passenger in a tank vs. tank is great for the damage and creates more than one target for your enemy. i usually fill this role to try and get the killing blow on the tank for all the points, and to use the protection that being a passenger provides
This entire video makes me wish for the 3rd person camera to be removed from tanks, not just as an option. That segment where Levelcap shot into the top floor on Suez. First he wouldn't have known he was there without this 'magical' camera view. Second as he mentioned himself he would not have been able to shoot up where, well not as easily anyway.
I personally love the light tank. It's got great 360 aim and with the second variant thing can shred other tanks and people. Moves much faster and you don't have to worry about team mates not looking after your flanks to much due to it being one maned 360 aim
Level cap please do a guide on how to counter each tank correctly, I'm mean yeah sure everyone knows the assault kit is the way to go but I was thinking more on weak spots and ricochet spots and how to approach them etc...
I would get tank glitched and couldn't figure out it out. The shell was appearing above them over a building, but when I return fire no hit markers. Rather annoying to say the least.
I like the default Artillery Truck more, has the same quick repair and can drop mines which can be used at choke points for vehicles as well as for baiting tanks off in the distance if they want to engage you. I usually go 40-60 with anywhere from 0 to 2 deaths every game in an Artillery Truck, they're fast moving forward and the only thing that hits harder is the Howitzer Light Tank which you can still 2 hit kill from the front making them a non-issue as its incredibly difficult to line shots up with that tank at anything other than close range. Artillery Trucks machine gun is also very useful and for its lack of initial accuracy the thing can be fired damn near indefinitely without over heating and the speed of your shells makes it very easy to hit low flying planes, and I'll often nail 2-3 bombers out of the sky most games.
MrFuddyDuddy Absolutely agree man but the AA and mortar version definitely have their uses but overall the default version is my go to loadout, it kills everything with ease plus the mobility and easy sniping capability.
I play tank support w/ a wrench but whenever I try to help, most of the time they drive away leaving me in the open with my wrench in my hand and I get blown away. Tanks, GIVE YOUR SUPPORT COVER!!!!!!
A "Heavy Tank Guide" and you don't even talk about the strengths of the other tank variants? It seems important to mention that the Breakthrough heavy tank's main shell is more effective against armor but with less splash damage for infantry, like the AP shell in BF4. Breakthrough tank also has incredibly powerful side cannons which can do damage to armor and wreck infantry. The flamer tank is still my favorite though, I love having the gas grenade for when people start getting too close. IMO there is nothing more terrifying than a flamer tank coming towards me and my teammates. It is almost certain death.
Is it just me who prefers the breakthrough variant? The main cannon deals 25 damage to other heavy tanks, so even if they use the emergency repair, you still have 1 round left over after killing the tank (provided you hit all of your shots)
Hi Levelcap. I have been following you since bf3 days. I am surprised to see that you are not customed how the balance matrix works in battlefield games. The vehicles (air, land etc) are compared with squad strength not individual soldier. The strongest vehicle can easily be destroyed by a squad, not indivdual soldier efforts. It should take 5 well organized and communicating squad members acting in harmony to overcome the strongest vehicle of the game.
how to be OP in a heavy tank: step 1: spawn in a heavy tank thats it. Thats all it takes...they have quick repair, so basically they have 130% health. one rocket gun critical hit (headshot colored hitmarker) does 16% damage. yep, that means 9 rocket gun hits, or 6 AT grenades, or 22-24 K bullets. Oh, and did I mention its the fastest tank as well? Also its the easiest tank to ricochet shells off. Now I like level cap and all, but you don't have to play smart in this at all. I mean, it certainly helps if you do, but I suck horribly at playing in tanks and I've had games 30-0, 50-1 etc. with this absolute unbalanced, broken, beast.
