How to be Successful on a NO BUY YEAR // Redefining Success & Failure

This is the key for me when it comes to having a successful No Buy / Low Buy or No Spend Challenge. The best part about theses challenges is you make the rules. You define your terms and it should also extend to what results you are aiming for and the mindset you create for yourself. Human beings are fundamentally flawed but what makes us so great is a determination to get back up and learn how to do things better. Be curious about yourself and let a challenge like this be the classroom where you get to study who you are and become more knowledgeable about your behaviour. This is a video I filmed a little while ago but after editing it this evening I realised that it is actually quite good timing for people to see now especially if you intend to embark on one of these challenges. I am currently working on my end of year results and other No Buy videos that I hope to bring your way soon. As I have a little break from school I have the time to come back to RU-vid and it is always so nice to return. As always for those who are still here THANK YOU so much for sticking with me!!! I hope this is helpful to hear as you start your No Buy / Low Buy / No Spends for 2023. This is something that has really helped me to have a better relationship to my own shopping behaviour and have success on a No Buy Year. I hope to share more videos soon :) Happy New Year :)

This reminds me a bit of quitting smoking. I tried many times before it stuck. Probably 5 times at least and what I realize now that I’ve been successful at it for 13 years is that it takes practice and failures to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Failure is definitely a part of the growth process. It’s great that you’re encouraging sticking to the thing that you want to achieve even after experiencing setbacks 😊

This is so true and thank you so much for sharing this! Like you have shared it is the only way to become successful is the have the failures and comeback and keep trying. Honestly it has been a big one to try to over come with many years of work. I think instead of trying to love this illusional perfect vision of myself I have to make steps to appreciate the actual person I am and the mistakes I make. I found reframing so so helpful and I hope it can be helpful for you also :)

Great video! I tried a low buy/no buy last year. I did ok until the last 3 months. I did learn a lot through the process. I now try to use up things before I buy more and most importantly to be mindful about my purchases. So I guess you could say it was a failure but yet a success. I also learned buying things that make me happy isn’t a bad thing. Not buying something just because I’m doing a low buy doesn’t seem healthy either. Life is balance!!! I missed your videos glad to see you back!!!

That is great to hear your learning. I think it is true that it can become unhealthy to deny buying things even when they could bring real value or joy. It is all about balance !! A challenge like this for me is to explore what is my personal balance, to find an inner conversation that makes me feel empowered to buy what I wish to but also have the strength and practice to not buy the things that would feel wasteful. That way I can really enjoy what I do buy without guilt and feeling like I am really happy with the balance I have created. Thank you for sharing and I hope the video was helpful in someway :)

Thanks for your thoughts. You're right... it's taken me many years to get to where I am with my mindset today, and looking back there's been a lot of learning opportunities that i've taken. I'm doing a replacement only no buy this year. We moved continents last year, and so had to set up from scratch again, but I've pretty much got everything I could possibly want now. Hence the replacement only no buy. I've got certain criteria that's required for me to replace things, or purchase something new, rather than just go out on a whim, and i'm happy about it. I've got stuff (like underwear) that is going to need replacing this year, but it'll be when my current ones finally die. I'm happy about it. 😊 If I can get through the year and keep myself on the straight and narrow, i'll be happy. If there's a few extra purchases I won't be mad about it. As long as I don't end up with more at the end of the year than I started with, i'm good.

Where did you move to if you don't mind me asking ? That is great a replacements only no buy. I love how clear you are but also have an openness to what happens happens. Yes I am continuing on for 2023 because I honestly love this challenge so much and continue to learn and grow while doing it. I will put up my results for 2022 fist with all the numbers and then the rules are next. I am a bit behind but I think no buys can start at anytime and rules can be adjusted or reshaped as needed. Are you planning a no buy or low buy for 2023? :)

Wonderful that you are going to keep working on staying in balance. I think balance is an activity not something that is a final achieved result in someway so it always something we are working with. :)
