I use exactly the same bead roller and have no real issues with it. It's pretty simple to make your own custom dies and far cheaper than buying in. Mine has been converted to electric power with a motor,gearbox and control gear from an old stair lift. Paid peanuts for an unwanted old stairlift on the understanding I removed it and made the walls good. Scrapped the rest and got money back! Motor super high torque and very slow speed if needed. Works on a foot switch from a spare tig welder!

We had a motorized beader at my fab shop. We use (mostly) 0.32 sheet aluminum for weather proofing pipe insulation in refineries. Anyway, we had a guy who was new to the whole powered beader with foot pedal. His glove got caught in the beader, ran his thumb through and required 18 stitches. Many factors led to it but the cover on the foot pedal was one big issue. His boot got stuck in there.

Greetings from Florida. I appreciate your instruction on the bead roller as I've got one of those "Basic" Chinese models also. I don't need an expensive professional model just to make a few panels for my 67 Ford Mustang, so a bead roller of this type fits the bill for me. I slip it into my vise when I need it then I remove it and put it aside. I'm not blessed with a large sized working area so working space is at a premium. Thanks for your videos, you've gained a new subscriber.

Matt, you are always building little projects so stand back and look at that roller, now think of the old singer sewing machines operated by a treadle, with your skill and know how you can operate that bead roller by foot while holding your work with both hands and looking directly onto your work. The larger wheel needed can be obtained from a washing machine or tumble dryer....Great vid by the way, keep them coming.

Hi Matt, great video content, if you were working the Bead Roller on a panel of specific size (dimensions), is there much shrinkage of the panel? Or do you need to perform the Bead Rolling process first on the material to be used and then cut the panel to size? Having no experience of Bead Rolling myself, I am assuming that the Bead Roller is stretching and compressing the metal as it is fed through the Rollers.

So I will try this! cheers!

So, what am I doing wrong? I’ve got the same model. But the metal curves when I roll a bead.
@katemoon7476
@katemoon7476 3 года назад
Be aware that steel has internal stresses due to the way it is made. When sheet-steel goes through the temper-mill, the crystalline structure gets elongated, affecting its properties along and against the direction it was rolled. Forging does the same thing. From a macro-view, the material looks uniform. Etch it with acid, put it under a microscope and you can see it has some similarities to the way wood has fibers. There is a technical word for this. I can't remember it though.
@melgross
@melgross 3 года назад
@@katemoon7476 thank you, but I do know that. But I see people doing it the same way I seem to, and theirs doesn’t curve. I know that this is stretching and shrinking the metal, and that’s why this is happening. But I guess it’s just experience.
@katemoon7476
@katemoon7476 3 года назад
@@melgross Then just do some experimentation with your steel. Maybe anneal it first to remove the internal stresses. Good luck.
@melgross
@melgross 3 года назад
@@katemoon7476 thanks, but I’ve never heard of anyone annealing sheet metal. I’ve been working with metal fit 50 years, and that’s a new one to me.
@katemoon7476
@katemoon7476 3 года назад
@@melgross I've seen it done on the videos where they make motorcycle fenders. They do it to relieve the work-hardening and allow it to bend some more without the metal splitting. It isn't too common for it to be done in a shop. Another application is for when someone is building a CNC machine and you don't want any warpage. Definitely not common.
