A parry god trick against Gwyn (isn't time efficient, but it's the safest way to kill Gwyn) is to drink estus as soon as your parry animation is done. Start mashing parry near the end of the estus drinking animation and you should get an infinite parry loop against him. This works because when you chug estus, Gwyn will *ALWAYS* try to get a quick swipe at you to knock you out of your chugging animation. Even if he is on the ground, he will 100% try and swipe you once he stands up. Because the animation of estus is just short enough, you can chug and immediately get that parry out to counter his swipe. I remember watching an AGDQ and thought it was a cool trick, as well as very easy to pull off.
Wait Are you seriously telling me The one move Gwyn has been coded to specifically use when you chugg Is simply useless as long as people have the coolheadedness to just parry as he swings at them? Gee, I feel fooled
@@hugofontes5708 Well, the fight goes more like >Go through Fog gate >Parry Gwyn's first attack (most likely a leap or 1,2 light swing combo) >While in repost animation start mashing Estus >As Gwyn is getting up mash parry >Loop until you can git gud and not have to cheese boss
i hook up potatos to wires and manipulate electricity generation to trick the system into thinking its buttons. works with squishy fruit better, but i like the challenge
because a lot of parts in this game suck for speed run, just think about it. I waste so much time dying in areas and like 2 mins on the bosses. So for speed running that must be annoying as fuck
Hey protip: There's 3 humanity on a well in firelink. grab them and run up the railing right by it and roll down to the mute firekeeper. i think this saves time aswell, instead of running down the flight of stairs. You can use 3 humanities down the elevator without losing time, but i like doing the 4th one aswell, to increase the droprate on the bkh. This will shave off the amount of "illegitemate" runs youll have to do :)
WHOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i feel a bit bad about beeing so happy that you didn´t reach your personal goal that you wanted to achieve, but the ds3 area rankings are coming WHOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I love this video so much I’ve come back to it dozens of times over the past few years and got me through my first run the commentary never seems obnoxious or off topic just a solid ass video I’ll probably come back to again lol
Perfect timing to want to try and learn the route for Any%, tried a while ago, but couldn't figure out several things. Thanks for the video helped a bunch.
If you're interested in no longer feeling pain with anything in life. Play the Dark Souls games until you get a euphoria not even sex can provide from beating bosses.
i want to say, iv seen many speedruns but rarely explained. they normaly talk about anything because they are mostly bored of doing the same run over and over. so thank you very much for this.
I'm so happy you made this video, I've been wanting to try this run out but just haven't found the time to study runs to learn the route and skips. Now I have this to use as just one reference video
I got dark souls today. When you pick up the sword in the hallway next to the asylum demon, I didn't realise I picked it up. And I was using the broken sword 😐. It took like 50 hits to kill a basic skelly... I feel stupid
The man in the Black jacket I and many other players at first go to the graveyard. It’s pretty hard to notice that bridge leading to the Burg if only for the fact you’re starting out and loot/enemy hungry. I probably spent a dozen hours trying to progress into the catacombs, spanning across a few days.
You telling me you killed the first boss with the broken sword, the asylum demon. Wtf, the boss can be hard for fist time players and you killed it with the broken sword?
Greetings! Recently, I accidentally discovered a method to trigger the Kiln skip. (This was on Remastered with the item and enemy randomizer mods, but it would likely also work in the full game. I haven't yet tested it.) -Get Covenant of Artorias. -Beat Four Kings in New Londo's Abyss Hole. -Talk to Kaathe and be warped to Firelink Altar. You need the Lordvessel for this! -Offer a Lord Soul to the altar. -Use a Homeward Bone. -Be warped inside 'Gwyn's Prison' which is the Kiln.
Played for the first time recently and I love this game so much that I'm still watching vids like this when im on the second game lol I like 2 so far, but the first game definitely outclasses it
You know I played dark souls (the remaster) for the first time recently (and beat it and the dlc) and I too suck at kicking. In the 45 hours of dark souls I played never once did I kick on purpose, I would always kick on accident. In fact I was doing the dlc and the Artorious fight took me forever to beat (even with the blk halberd) and he was at 1 more hit and I was like YES YES YES and I hit m1 to do an attack AND HE KICKS my character kicked and I yelled NO NO NO. Fortunately a split second later I did an actual attack and killed him.
This run is extremely fun. I’m on console so I can’t drop a BKH into my game if I don’t get it, so I’ve decided to slightly change the run. If I don’t get a BKH I just continue the run as normal but when I get to Anor Londo I take a quick detour to get the Crystal Halberd. It’s not as much damage, of course, but it’s at least nice to know that a fairly strong weapon is always available and that the run won’t die in the first 5-6 minutes over and over again. So far my personal best is 1:02:29, which is nowhere near the WR of course, but it feels great to know that I can personally reach a sub-60 run in DS1! Thanks for this video! It was a great help. Edit: I was recently able to get a 00:55:23 run! My regret is that I can’t record it to submit to the leaderboards. But I’m very happy with that progress. Thanks again!
With the help of this video, I was able to successfully get a time of 1 hour and 4 minutes though I did skip the DLC by doing the quit out wrong warp but still, since this is my first game to speedrun, I will definitely keep trying and keep getting better and better times
This is really good Demod ever since i learned some of the more basic speedrun strats i always seem to put them into playthroughs when replaying DSR like the stair skip in Anor Londo. Also that i think i'm gonna try that trick you used for the Anor Londo Archers. Keep up the great work!
Kicking in all the Soulsborne games is such a pain. I don't know why they just don't let us remap it to L3, since that isn't used for anything else... except the *inferior jump binding.*
@@PooFaceMcButt Not working as intended since it can block hits when it is barely winged while not blocking even more obvious hits than this one. But, of course, glitches are just features making the game more hardcore amirite? Git Gud etc.
@@PooFaceMcButt It is not working as intended and was always a problem in the original. That you do not know this is unimportant. That you do not know of the meme about glitches in Dark Souls games make me very sad. A sad day today.
Awesome guide, just did my first run through. Turns out, it's a lot harder than you make it look, got a 4:58:57 on my first try though a decent chunk of that was standing still watching this guide for what to do next. Iron Golem, O&S, Artorias, and Gwyn were the roughest parts, though I can do Sen's gate skip pretty well for the first time, and the wrong warp I can do well. I might have missed it, but you do need a non-empty estus to do the wrong warp or you'll end up at the lord vessel, not in the kiln. And the first knight would sometimes insta kill me if he didn't move, but just did a charge attack (only from where he stands initially. The same attack after he moves doesn't kill me)
Panda King I suppose so, but number rankings rarely add substance to anything, be it video game reviews or film reviews. Remember Resident Evil 6’s “4” out of 10 or even the recent nonsense with Captain Marvel on Rotten Tomatoes?
@@osurpless I saw that video, but that was 1 year ago and opinions change in time: Demodcracy liked Smouldering Lake and disliked Undead Settlement, meanwhile the community feels exactly the opposite. + I'm curios on how the list will differ with mine's
theDeModcracy and I starting a New Game in Dark Souls parallel... - 1 hours goes by - Me: * just finished the Undead Burg * "I think I'm doing pretty well!" theDeModcracy: * just finished the game & now watching the credits * "Damn! I was really slow this time, I can do way better!" Me: "Wait what?!"
If it's anything like the original version of the game there's a slight difference in run/roll speed even within the 25% equip load breakpoints, so swapping the halberd out when you don't need it could save maybe a second across the full run. Also really funny to see that a sub-optimal run is sub 40, I remember when the WR was like 1:05 and moveset swaps were the new hotness.
Great job never watched speed runs of dark souls because didn't realize it could be that quick, thanks for the mod i think you are correct need to be able to practice the run in order to get anywhere on it
I know this is out of date, but Im trying to speedrun with this route and im trying to get the black knight halberd but i dont see it on the menu of weapons? Plz help lol Edit: I also can't spawn anything else. Edit 2: So I'm really dumb, turns out i just didn't download all the assets. Problem solved!
Ooow yeah boiii. 2B in tha house!! 2 of my most favorite games together in 1. Thank you for this. Also very epic and handy speedrun man! I learned a lot
I found it funny that it took him like 20 seconds to cut the tail and kill the sanctuary guardian when it took me over 10 minutes just to cut the tail of a lesser Sanctuary Guardian. Many kudos to this amazing run!!!
This is a question I have always asked mnyself: how do speedrunners find what's best? Yes, they play a lot and try a lot with different settings, but why the halberd specifically? Why did you take those shields specifically? How were the glitches they often use discovered (like all of the glitches used in Ocarina of Time's speedrunnings)? I'm no speedrunner, but they always did make me curious.
generally the glitches are found through lots and lots and lots of failed speedrun attempts, and then accidentally tripping over a useful glitch and figuring out how to replicate it
15:30 instead of walking down the stairs jump and then roll it saves time and in my opinion makes you less likely to get hit, Edit: I mean over the banister
Hey dude. Just want to thank you for your efforts. I'm not into speed running myself, but big into dark souls im general. So I love seeing what other people do with it for their enjoyment 👍
Gravelord sword is a good run. Uses a simmilar route but u just start as warrior, grab master key gift. Uuse souls from asylim to get 16 str run to get Gravelord sword, then run and grab everything in valley of the drakes and grab grass crest shield. Then the route is mostly the same, besides grabbing some demon titanite when you can get it, like killing the demon near andre, and grabbing the piece in anor londo.
