This guy is on point. The algorithm also loves a seller that wants "some of the money, all of the time" rather than a seller that want "all of the money, some of the time". If I see a profit, I now take it and move on.

I've said it namy times on my channel: I hate "ebay gurus" on youtube, because all they say is list list list. And not many of them will actualy make an effort to understand that ebay is a bit more complicated than that.
I am just starting this online business and have been collecting items for about 5 months now. However, I owned a brick and mortar shop for three years and was in sales for 28 years before that. So, a lot of the good business practices also apply to online selling I am sure. Customer service, nice photos and display, immediate responses to all correspondence, consistency, good product, and a whole lot of other things make sales and happy repeat customers. I am trying to learn BEFORE listing my items and your video was the most helpful of many I have watched, because a store front business does not worry about algorithms and such. There are many ways to manipulate the algorithm: during good times, waiting for a high price can have benefits. But during tough times, selling for less more often can generate better overall sales. Now, if we all battled for lowers price, we'd all go out of business in a month. So, lowest price is not the answer. I've found that buyers aren't as price conscious as they think. The biggest issue is getting your items in front of buyers eyes. After that conversion is easier. I personally think Ebay has made a huge mistake always siding with the buyer. Bad buyers can poison the platform and in the long run can kill it. You want high quality sellers and buyers for a market place to do well. Ebay lets scammers on both sides get away with murder and causes the rest of us a lot of problems.
When you remove old listings and SELL SIMILAR you then delete the original items from your UNSOLD box. Although Polish Pete says that this will not help if you do not CHANGE the listings, I know that it does. And I believe the reason is that when you DELETE the old items from your UNSOLD page, Cassini registers this as "DELETE UNSOLD ITEMS", and I believe THAT gives your ACCOUNT a boost and some old items then sell.
It does help more when you change the listing, but if you don't change it, it still works. I believe that's what I said. I may have not explained it properly. Yes, I do delete them, just to avoid confusion. If they are relisted, there's no point to keep it there. Interesting point you've made, with that deleting. Hard to measure, but it may be true. Even if it's not, still worth to do it.

I figured this out when i first started on ebay during 4th quarter. I was doing awesome selling things out of my closet. When that dried up, my store went to crap.

Hi Pete, congrats this videos went crazy and your subs have rocketed! To be honest I don't think there is any formula to beat Ebay's algorithm. A lot of people over think ebay when in my opinion it's simple as good titles, good photos, good listings and good prices. Not much more to it than that for me. If you have a desirable item it will sell regardless of your previous traffic. You make some good interesting points Pete but no one except ebay knows how there algorithm works, sellers will never truly know and will be forever guessing. In the video I think your talking more about how ebay bots work when ebay suggests items to buy to its customers, similar to how Google works when showing online adverts via tracking cookies. I know. It's a bit overwhelming. I don't know what's going on. In terms of second part of post, unfortunately I have to disagree. In my opinion, title was worth 100x more 5 years ago, than is now. Photos are overrated in my opinion. I do awful, and it still selles. What if you have item that is not so desirable? In my case, that's 80% of them, if not more. Drawing conclusions out of observation is not guessing. If it was, we would still throw stones at each other. If you see thing happenning over and over again, it must be how it works. Most people don't understand in details how car works, but they drive it everyday. Ebay bot decides if your item is even going to have a chance to sell. If you'll feed the bot with what it's looking for, suddenly you stand a better chance.
There’s definitely an algorithm because if your sitting on EBay not listing you don’t sell if you don’t work and change you listings eBay will hit you in the bottom of the stack it’s all about the conversion from list to watch to conversion to sales. If you get an offer and don’t answer you get less traffic it’s all monitored I don’t think it’s on numerical listings it’s on actionable listings the more that look at your item the more that look at your store we all love combined shipping buyers and sellers

I totally agree. But... 1. Not everybody can do the dispatch everyday. I can't. 2. My items are in google shoping without white background, so why would I spend time on perfecting photos to remove background? 3. Video comming soon on one simple markdown sale trick, that puts it on another level. So, in 4 years you've never had fake INAD or late delivery due to courier's fault? Still classed as defects.
Pete, it is true what you say, I notice that when i have a sale, often another comes quickly, sometimes the same item too, this happens too often to be luck, so it is reasonable to credit the ebay algorithm. Above all else, I agree, ebay dont switch off sales, it makes no sense if you have things people will buy and create profit.
What do you mean? They will never suppress account that is converting. But they'll always prioritise account that convert better over the one that converts worse.
@@polish_pete_uk It has been my experience that after I made a listing on my main computer, and on a different computer device, I could NOT find my listing and the listing was purposely priced cheaper than my competitors. I think you answered the statement of suppression.. if I understood you correctly, when a seller's store is identified by ebay as not high performance then eBay will send traffic to a store with a higher conversion rate. It makes perfect sense to me.
Well, they do it for the money. They'll always send traffic where it has a better chance to convert, so they can earn money. That is why, when you're converting, there's no point for ebay to stop send you traffic. When you're not converting, then it's not Ebay's fault. Theres no guaranteed traffic on ebay. You pay for the chance of getting it, basically. Gain the velocity, and keep it rolling. If you lose it, do your best to gain it back. That's Ebay in a nutshell.
Great information and so accurate -- every step you take on eBay matters, responding quickly, give best offers as fast and as low as possible to make a sale, accepting low/acceptable amount offers versus countering (and most likely losing the buyer), etc. This is exactly how eBay works! Thank you.

Just don't force it. Don't fill up your shop with one type of items. Just use the same keywords over and over again for similar items, to push algorithm to find another one, when you've made a sale. If you'll watch my what sold videos, in every week, for months and months and months, I've sold black workwear trousers. Not because there is so many people looking for them. I've just sold a few, and then algorithm has started to push them, and carries on pushing them for months. Self-feeding machine. I haven't listed a fresh pair for at least 2-3 monts.
Great advice here , sales get more people into Your door and convert to more sales ! Just like a busy breakfast restaurant people walking by say I want to go eat here and traffic creates sales and customers
These are great but one important thing is activity. Make sure to be active every day. That means listing, shipping, responding to every message, and looking at and deleting ebay automated messages. eBay loves activity. One great tip is if you are on vacation is to go to old listings, stop them, and relist them with a slightly lower price. This gets the algorithm going while on vacation.
To be fair, I have to dissagree on being active. It's a common slogan. Everybody keeps repeating it, and nobody has done any tests to explain it. I'll be making video next Sunday, where I'll touch this subject. I agree on dispatch and responding to the messages, but can't agree on "ebay loves active accounts".

Check if the brand is in VERO brands. These are different from country to country, I believe. Just google "ebay vero brands", and have a read about it. I would say, somebody flagged it. Probably the competition. Best thing (after checking vero) would be to contact Ebay, and have a chat with them, so they could explain you why they've done it in your case. You may be lucky enough to talk to somebody who knows what they're doing, and explain you that in details. Just ask them that: "what should I do, to avoid being restricted again". I'm affraid taht in VERO cases, there''s not much you can do. You just can't sell those products on Ebay. And they won't take the explanation that there are other people who do it. Basically, the fact that somebody is doing something that is forbidden, doesn't mean that anybody can do it now without punishment. Good luck with that, as it's always a problematic situation. I'm sorry, that can't say much about it, but I've never been in one like that.
I do not follow the trouser example. If I am a buyer and I search for what you said, I would see multiple results then sort that how I want. eBay does not show just one, it will show all that apply. I’ll watch the other video too. Why would ebay send a buyer to one but not the other, it shows you all
Right. You sell something, algorythm looks for something similar, and next time another customer is looking for that, in the search results, there will be your item. Among other items. Not just your item. But that's enough. Same with promoted listings. Your item will start to show in the promoted listings more. Look at that from this perspective: it's just an algorithm, doesn't have a brain. Must do what it has in its formulas. If item sells, that's the signal to the algorithm "items like that sell". If it sells from your account, it's a signal "this account is converting the traffic". So algorythm looks for very similar item, on your account, as this is the highest probability it will find item that will sell after applying the traffic to it. Is this better now?
Or from the another perspective. If you're looking for something, do you see all results. Every Next Black Working Trousers Size 16? No, Ebay will serve you just some of it. Even less on the first page of results. Now, it's the sellers job to be there with their listings. And this is what we're trying to achieve here.
Or this: it's all about the money, the fees that you're paying. Ebay will never restrict you from selling. But the traffic is limited, so they have to push items that have a history of selling, and accounts that keep turning that traffic into sales, hence into fees. I hope this clears it now.
Your missing the point, I'm affraid. I haven't listed a single item for 11 months, still selling every week on more or less the same level. Proven and documented.
*W@$$UP!!* You people need to buy items that sell and that's by making better choices. If a item has 100 listings and only 20 solds in the last 90 days I would say that's a bad choice. Your opinion DOES NOT MATTER what matter is, DOES THAT ITEM SELL and can you make a profit $10 $20 $50 a item? I'm sorry but listing 5 items a day isn't going to cut it, you must "Draft" 40-50 items a day and work up too 200 in your "Draft Bank" and out of that "Draft Bank" list 20 items a Day.. So even if you have a off day you still can list 20 items every morning and the reason I say morning is because that tells Ebay "Hello I'm up and ready to make some Money."

By the end of next week, get out of your house, leave your family behind, go abroad, start carying for the disabled person, who leaves abroad, and stay there for 4 years. As this is, what I have done. Then show me your sales. If these will be biger than mine, I'll send you a box of most expensive whiskey, that I can find. If not, well... then maybe you'll understand that some people have different circumstances than you.

I had to give up my high paying job and take a State Paid Job, major major demotion!! I had to find something to make up the money, then came Ebay. I source most of my items at three Goodwill Bins Outlets and Garage Sales, Flea Markets... Aw!! didn't mean to come on strong, but there are to many RU-vidrs out there passing out the wrong info. I believe that Ebay is the gateway for many people to earn a pretty good living.. it just takes time and hard work. Have a great Weekend & Keep listing!!
What I'm trying to say is that I've given up my job, home and family. And I can't go to source because I can't leave the person that I care for for longer than 20min, half an hour. I can't cherry pick what I buy, just to buy good items. People have different business models, and this is mine.
@@polish_pete_uk I understand your situation and I’m sorry your going through it. Here is what you can do to fix your low sales. The company that you are buying UK cream from will be sorting rag. I’m guessing you have bought off them a few times? Great, you have some kind of relationship and have spent some money with them which is perfect. Give them a call and say, I would like to buy branded items from you. Not sportswear, branded and designer items. When you are sorting the rag, could you separate the designer gear, offer them triple the price per kg and hopefully they will do it. If not, many UK used clothing collectors send rag to Poland for sorting as the cost of labour is much cheaper than the UK. It makes more sense to send a full lorry of rag to Poland for sorting. Call these rag sorting warehouses and explain you are looking for bales of branded menswear. I have a friend that imports 5/6 pallets a month from Poland and he’s doing very well. You speak polish so you have an advantage over the rest of us. UK cream does not work on eBay unless you have a large scale operation. The average sale cost is simply too low to do well off it as a one man operation. UK cream is perfect for the brick and motor shops in Africa and also, I’m sure you have seen for yourself, the Eastern European market. There are many second hand shops in Poland selling UK cream. eBay is perfect for used branded clothing as demand is high. The UK cream items that you are selling only cost £5-10-15-20 brand new. This leaves a very low demand for people as they are not getting a bargain buying second hand for very little under brand new retail prices.
For every listing algorithm se t certain price brackets 5hat this item.usually sells for. If you're way cheaper or more expensive, the listing won't be shown to a lot of buyers. With promoted listings, its vey similar to organic results. If you're not converting, ebay will not push your listings. Or it'll push them.on most rubbish placements.
It all depends. What kkind of stock you sell and on what kind of market. I was as low as 0.7%. After applying those 3 things, I'm about 1.4-1.6% now. From time to time going above 2% for a short period of time. But I'm on very saturated market. For somebody else, selling newset Iphones 10% would be dramaticaly low. Just guessing, as I've never sold anything like that.
7.45 God help me, my shop is full of good M & S but I don't understand why people don't often buy, my shop is small. I think ebay has to try us small new seller too because one can't have " better traffic" if they don't get send customers. My items r nice and not expensive but...
Sometimes we do something wrong. Tiny little thing, but it limits the traffic. And often we don;t realise, and make the same mistake over and over again. I've flooded the shop with small sizes, and that's greatly limited my sales, and then my traffic went down as well. And the vicious circle closes.

U say eBay needs buyers, there will always be sellers. Well, It goes both ways. eBay can’t operate without sellers either. There will always be buyer. There will always be sellers. Don’t tell your viewers to sale themselves short. Sellers on eBay have value and we are paying eBay. Those fees go to eBay. eBay gets fees they shouldn’t even be getting because they are taking a percentage from off that is not only on sales price but on shipping and taxes. Add on top of that any promoted listing fees that you are paying TO eBay. To say that eBay isn’t making money off sellers is false. They make money on both sides.
Do you charge your customers enough to cover fees, or do you pay them out of your own pocket? So who's paying those fees? You, with your customers money. Not with your money.
Again. Do you pay the tax with your own money, or the money that you've charged your customers? Who's money was it in the first place? Doesn't matter what you've got for sale and how cheap it is. If there's no buyers, you're not going to.sell anything.
@@polish_pete_uk the tax I am talking about is what the customer pays. Let’s use some easy numbers. I sell an item for $10 plus $10 shipping. The buyer pays tax on the $10 purchase. eBay then charges me a 13% fee on the $10 sale plus the $10 shipping plus the tax that the buyer paid. So I’m hit with fees on the sale, the shipping and the tax. What should have been $1.30 turns into ~$2.69 and then there is the $.30 selling fee on top of that. The $10 sale just came to $7.31 minus my cost of goods. I’m not really upset that I’m having to pay a percentage on the shipping. What I really don’t understand is why I’m paying 13% on the tax that the buyer paid. All in all, it’s still cheaper than having a brick and mortar store with all the hassles and overhead. My issue here is that you are telling people that eBay doesn’t need them as a seller. That takes the wind right out of someone’s sails. eBay does need sellers.
Right, I can't say much about US taxes, as I'm in UK. If charging fees on tax is illegal, then theres a scope for lawsuit, so I assume it's legal. what I'm trying to say in the video is, that theres no business without buyers. Also, you know the rules and fees of ebay. If it doesn't add up, then you don't sell on ebay. The only way of seller paying any fees without shifting them to buyer is when seller doesn't know about them.
With respect - how can you be giving advice and bad mouthing “reseller guru” when your sales are between £300-500 weekly? No offence but take away cost of stock, shipping, eBay fees, packaging and any other expenses, your not even making minimum wages. Then you have the so called gurus like daily refinement who do your weekly sales figures in an hour or two. So who knows better, you or them. £300 - £500 a week vs £19-20k a week. Again no offence but the figures speak for themselves. Since your giving advice, I’ll give some to you. Don’t bother selling the cheap stuff you are working with. The average sale cost is so low you really need a two/three man team to make it work. You would have to list so many of these items to make any real money it’s just not worth it for a one man business. Why not sell higher value item’s and make higher profit margins instead?
1. Daily refinement is not doing a single dime on Ebay, as his account has been banned, as far as I understand. It took him 3 years to understand that he has to niche down. To me, he's a marketer, not a reseller. 2. I'm not a full time reseller. My primary occupation is being a carer 24/7, unpaid. 3. I'm home maximum 3 months in a year. And this is when I work 8h a day. When I'm out I do bits and pieces with listing 4. I haven't been listing for 11 months straight. Not a single item, and I was still making the same money. 5. I will give a bad mouth to anybody who's giving bad advice, as hes screwing other people business.

If you worked full time 12 months of the year using your current business model then you would do £200 a day at best. 4.stop being stubborn and making excuses, take some advise and read my replies on your other comment and things will get better for you. 5. Like I said, selling uk cream for £5/10 per item is not going to get you anywhere. You NEED a higher average sale cost. Simple as that. Good luck

I've never wanted to make a million dollars. Ebay paid me well, before I had to give up, and become a carer.
You are mistaken, I'm affraid. I've said in order to sell more, you have to sell a lot, not more. This is great advice, in my opinion. Not many people know that one sale triggers another. The more you sell, the better traffic you get. Conversion is the key. You may have 10.000 items live. If you're not converting, you wont get much traffic. Or you gonna get garbage traffic. Please, watch the video once again, and try to think about it. Let's say you've got a bad period of time, with not much sales. Take some low ball offers, sell few things cheaper than you normaly would, and I can pretty much guarantee you that your traffic will go up.

Understanding and applying them will make you a better seller. There's no way that after applying those, you'll have less sales, than you've got now.
