That's pretty standard. Because a company doesn't want to be responsible for someone dying or getting hurt on their time. But that's usually a different job too. The type of job that wants you to hide and not engage is like a clerk or cashier or anything else that's not inherently violent. This is a bouncer, someone who's supposed to put hands on someone if they're doing wrong. But you're still right and it gets more and more like that everyday. Now even most security guards aren't supposed to stop crimes.

@@whateverwhatever4026 yup. I worked at the mall so you’re right about my job not requiring me to engage and actively discouraging it but I was surprised to learn that the security aren’t allowed to engage either past escorting people out of the mall

@@sinahicruz96most private security can’t there are some that very much can and carry firearms but those aren’t typically mall cops

@@sinahicruz96 Yeah it depends on the actual job. Mall security just want them to watch cameras and tell people to leave if they're being a nuisance. But something like hospital security are literally just the same as cops, just limited to their property. It depends really.

Yes, there are many reasons for this. Individuals can escalate the situation. We used to only advise manager to be the ones to call PD and they were trained to do it AFTER an incident. The other reason is because if you call during an incident and PD do show up it has led to hostage situations. It's much easier for PD to follow a car on the highway and cut the person off than it is to have a person with a weapon who is now scared and surrounded by PD around civilians. Depending on where you are Hold Ups can be "interesting" as well. In places like Puerto Rico the cops could not give a crap less if you are being held up at gunpoint and they will tell us to advise the store to not have expensive and nice things if they do not want to be held up in their country. . .this was a Costco. In some states PD will show up to a hold up in full gear with weapons out and I mean it's one level below SWAT for how some places roll out for a HU. The only state where Security and not an official PD can do anything that I am aware of (and I'm not current on my LIC/UL codes) is LIC or what is better known as New York. There are just not enough Police to deal with the level of crime and for many companies to even have insurance they need guards who can respond within a certain time frame and actually do things and have more training than the average person who has taken a security job. Otherwise Security can basically defend themselves if someone attacks them and are told to call PD if they see something suspicious.
