Actually it totally fits the narrative and the "animal farm" metaphor. As later in the film explained, Anthena was part of the liberal elite and disliked by right wing weirdos, which because of that they made up lies about her. These lies however motivated her to actually do the crimes they accused her of. Essentially by antagonizing her they made her into the enemy they thought she was. HOWEVER, Anthena did the same thing with crystal. Anthena *thought* Crystal was part of the people who ruined her life and hunted her down for it. However, Crystal didn't even know about Anthena. It was only the hunting which made Crystal into Anthenas enemy, and ultimatly her killer. It's basically a metaphor for how left and right wingers anatognize each other out of petty, til something they once agreed upon / didn't care about, becomes a central point of political contention. For example, all the transgender stuff. Looking at the big picture, this is an utterly minute issue, yet it represents like 20% of all political discussion . We have economic crises, diseases, an aging population, school shooting, etc. Yet, because left and right wing people alike can't just sit with the fact that diffrent people have diffrent opinions, knowing that this is something they definitly disagree on, they feel compelled, even urged to, to clash it out on television, podcasts, interviews etc. about an issue that affects a maximum of 0,5% of the population. As a consequence, left and right wing people can't compromise anymore. Right wingers think(crude example) "These progressives want our kids genders inverted, they're demonic! I'm not gonna negotiate with them!" And left wing people think "These bigots want to kill all Trans people, they're evil! I'm not gonna negiotate with them either" And than suddenly a disagreement on some teeny-tiny issue bleeds over into large actually important stuff and poisons the well, and constructive political contention is impossible. The movie expresses this by showing that in such escalated situation the only resolve is violence, only destructive means. And when the smoke has settled and Anthena and Crystal lie there dying, Anthena realizes she is just as guilty the person she accused Crystal to be and she is dying for nothing.

Except the right wingers didn’t make up lies about Athena. She actually sent texts with her elite friends, talking about hunting Republicans for sport. “ManorGate” doesn’t exist without those texts. Turns out she was joking but, the right wingers didn’t make it up.

​@@entropysmith6965 Nope; the conspiracy theories were there before the group chat was leaked. Rewatch the movie. The claimed she hunted people WAY BEFORE the texts got leaked. Infact, the reason Anthena joked about hunting people in the first place was BECAUSE conspiracy theorists accused her and her friends of doing that. That's why everyone in the group chat was instantly in on the joke, they all were aware of the conspiracy theory about them. The only thing true at that point was that she did own a manor. But does that warrant people making up crass conspiracy theories about you? I don't think so.

There are so many important issues because almost every political point of contention is more important: School shootings/gun control, addiction and social isolation in the youth, the wealth inequality trend, cost of education, health care, etc. You just naming as many examples as you doesn't change it's importance in the bigger picture. Like with the same rethoric, I can also explain why making gummy bears illegal is super important: 1)They give young children addictions, and make them more prone to addictions later in life. 2)They make children less disciplined. 3)They further a childs desire for sugar, a nutrition trend that can damage their brain and age them faster. 3)They make children used to eating highly processed foods, a behaviour that will be harmful in the long run. 4)They also teach them to cope with their emotions by eating something sweet, also unhealthy beavhiour. Just because you can name a dozen examples, doesn't make something more or less important; it's still ridiculous. The fact of the matter is, when it comes to trans stuff, you draw a line in the sand and say "Imma do everything to prevent and avoid this", including agreeing with liberals and or leftist on some other more important stuff, INSTEAD of never bring this issue up in the first place...

A long time smoker will know the exact amount of their favorite brand of smokes, to the penny. So if I walked into a an unknown gas station and the people told me that I was in a rural part of my state yet charged me with a different tax, I'd be suspicious too. I know sales tax varries county to county but I don't think that's applied to cigs because there's already a tax associated with them.

Yeah, unless the gag is saw-esque cutting into you with metal you would be able to get it out "easily" with free hands and time. Both leather and your skin can bend and stretch, so what we see here would be able to be pulled hard forward then slide over one way to create space. Which would hurt depending how tight it is, but would be pretty doable in an emergency. Edit: and at least 1 character doing this in the movie would have contributed to the theme of the incompetent rich hunters

@johnstonefield1935 The kind of gag they were wearing is legit fairly easy to pull out of the mouth, as are most gags that are some form of buckled straps holding thing in mouth. Tbf, gags could probably be designed to function better, but there's not much point. Realistically, if you're wearing a gag, it's cause you want to be. More important that it feels secure and comfortable, than actually being secure. In fact, being able to quickly clear your mouth is a bit of a safety feature, if anything. As for the narrative aspect, I think bit gags were actually a good choice. It's unlikely a random small group would know how useless most gags are, and the bit gags lean into the kind of humilliation they would have been going for.

Ty for the thumbs up! This would be a tough one for at least one person to leave the based on the situations presented. I was surprised that M. Night neither wrote nor directed this. He just came up with the story for it- which, is amazing of course but the screenplay was by Brian Nelson. That dude that did co-wrote 30 Days of Night and wrote Hard Candy! And I read in a long review , condensed into like two sentences under the Devil wiki (unproduced sequel section) that M. Night wanted this to be a trilogy, with the final one being taken from a version of Unbreakable, which was overhauled to what we know of as Split! Holy moly! IMAGINE?!?!
