HEY GUYS AND GALS!
This video will give you an insight into how I became a driving instructor and how you can too!
How to become a car driving instructor: step by step
Step 1 Check if you can become an instructor - www.gov.uk/app...
Step 2 Apply to become a driving instructor - www.gov.uk/app...
Step 3 Take the theory test (ADI part 1)
Step 4 Take the driving ability test (ADI part 2)
Step 5 Get practice teaching preferably with a training badge (Pink Badge)
Step 6 Take the instructional test (ADI part 3)
Step 7 Register as an ADI and order your badge.
Step 8 Grow your business. (FACEBOOK)
If YOU are thinking about becoming a driving instructor make sure you seek professional help from a fully qualified ADI such as myself. This video is NOT an alternative to professional driving lessons and is only a rough guide. During the recording of this information I have tried to ensure all information is correct and up to date although this can change along with the times so I cannot guarantee all the information will be correct at the time you use it.

@gzz8551 I've since pulled out. The part 1 was tough but I got through it. The waiting time for the part 2 and 3 is silly crazy so much so right now you will have to retake the part 1 so it's within the time limit by the time you get the part 3. But I make more money bus driving no one can afford 40 to 50 an hour and the out goings are high

Passed my Class 2 license in September but soon realised hardly any employers will hire new drivers with no experience & the ones who will take you on are almost offering min wage So now I’d wished I’d looked into becoming a ADI years ago, I have fond memories of my driving instructor she was a retired police woman and such a character lol I’m thinking of going down the AA, Bill Plant route so that once I’m qualified they will provide me with guaranteed work and you can also may monthly for the training I understand they charge for this service but I think it’s only around £120 month which isn’t a lot if their finding your work and that also includes the car Be interesting to hear why others don’t go with a established company who can provide them with pupils

Hey Dis thank you my friend appreciate the support. 😁🙌 If I did it again I would definitely have gone through a driving school rather than a large company. The driving school will always look after you as they will only have a handful of students. With the company's they have larger departments such as sales team etc so you just become a number and you will be treated more like a cash cow than a driving instructor.

I went through a large very well known driving school organisation (hint: they also do roadside recovery). Couldn't fault it. I was assigned an ORDIT registered trainer ( basically an instructor who has taken the additional training to specifically teach trainee instructors) for my 50 hours part 2 and 3. I didn't apply for a pink badge, but did get a bank of 3 pupils to develop my skills on. Passed my Part 3 first time on Friday. The non-pink route was perfect for me, as there are some very tight timescales that you need to hit and it can be quite pressured. But, each to their own and there are many ways to do it, but whichever way you do it, you have GOT to be prepared to work hard. It ain't easy

It's annoying that there are no official UK statistics showing the percentage of people that fail on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd attempt. Instead they're all grouped together and all we know is the overall pass rate is 33%, meaning 67% fail (ish). If every attempt had equal pass rates then this is the percentage of people that pass within 3 attempts: 100% - 33% - 33% - 33% = 30% of people fail after 3 attempts = 70% pass However, I suspect that the odds improve as you gain more experience so I doubt it's 33% for each attempt although maybe the added pressure of failing again cancels out the added experience. Ignoring drop-outs let's see what the very best pass rate could be for 100 people taking a test, making sure the average pass rate is 33%: 1st attempt: 100 people tested, 0 people pass (0% pass rate) 2nd attempt: 100 people tested, 0 people pass (0% pass rate) 3rd attempt: 100 people tested, 100 people pass (100% pass rate) 300 tests done with 100 passes. THIS IS STILL A 33% AVERAGE PASS RATE. So of the 100 people that took the test 100% of them pass in 3 attempts or less. Now let's look at the very worst pass rate over 3 attempts: 1st attempt: 100 people tested, 60 people pass (60% pass rate) 2nd attempt: 40 people tested, 0 people pass (0% pass rate) 3rd attempt: 40 people tested, 0 people pass (0% pass rate) 180 tests done with 60 passes. THIS IS STILL A 33% AVERAGE PASS RATE. So of the 100 people that took the test 60 of them passed in 3 attempts or less. That's a 60% pass rate within 3 attempts or less!!! If my calculations are correct it means that between 60% and 100% of driving instructors pass within 3 attempts or less. This goes to show that the statistics we're given are useless because it doesn't give us all the information. I guess by saying 33% failure rate it puts people off becoming an instructor so there's less competition. ;-)

@@JoshRamwell Thanks for replying. I'm really struggling with the stress and pressure of it, early on. I'm working really hard to try and make sure I can understand everything, trying to memorise everything, etc. Quite literally, I couldn't sleep last night worrying that I could eventually fail all of this x3 or not be the right fit, not meet the expectations of the job or that the pay-off wouldn't be worth the effort, time and money I'm putting in. As yet, I haven't really had much interaction with people on my course so it has so far been apps, books and paperwork etc. I'm sure once I'm able to get some time in the car with my instructor and at least interact with another human being (not just a faceless and endless wall of expectations for my next step), it could settle me a bit, though.

When you're doing your part 3 test I wonder whether it would be easier to take a student wanting to pass in an auto/ev rather than manual car. With less to think about, the student is less likely to make mistakes and the instructor has less to concentrate on. Your thoughts please. :-D
@JoshRamwell
@JoshRamwell 3 года назад
I have wondered that myself to be honest. I guess you could argue that regardless of auto or manual the questioning, lesson format and safety aspects still need to be on point. But I agree that with an automatic there maybe less to focus on making life easier. Again though you could say that the student is not making progress if the lesson is to easy. I guess it's a fine line but I definitely see where you are coming from.

Hi josh i m gonna take the same journey. 1 question? What do you say about manual vs automatic? Earning potential wise
@JoshRamwell
@JoshRamwell Год назад
My opinion they are the same but that will depend on the area you live in and how long you have been in business. I'm manual, I charge the same as auto and I turned down 4 people yesterday for manual driving lessons. A good friend of mine however lives in the city and recently swapped from manual lessons to auto and loves it. Auto you generally charge between 5 and 10 more per hour but buying an auto generally costs more than a manual as well. This is only my opinion so do some research as well but hope this helps.😁🙌

Hey Nick apoligies for the delay. Yes 1 month should be plenty of time as long as you revise every day. It's more down to how many questions their are and whether you can absorb that much information. For me small and often worked best. You want to be getting well above 80% in the mock tests before heading in and even then it might not be enough. Don't touch any mock tests though till you have bene through every question twice so you get answers straight away rather at the end.
