The seven steps: 1- Assess your current skills. 2- Learn some new skills. 3- Create packages for your services and price them. 4- Create a simple website for yourself (for contact info and etc) 5- Start networking in Facebook groups. 6- Work for clients for free just a few times to build referrals. 7- Get your first paying clients. I've started doing some of these steps. I love how you lay it all out. most people will not share how to get the clients. I want to be a virtual assistant because I love the administrative side of a company. I need a way to have my home office so that I can stay home. I have 2 kids and I take care of a disabled family member. I don't want to just be the mom and caregiver because my ambitions go farther than that. Synchronicity! I've been thinking about becoming a virtual assistant for a while and decided last night that I need to finally take action. The problem has been that having an accountant's brain, I do best with steps and guidelines and have felt a bit overwhelmed. You really broke it down for me. I have always enjoyed being someone's "right hand man, " helping them to become their best. I was a personal assistant and felt fulfilled doing that work. Becoming a virtual assistant would allow me to assist others in reaching their goals and also be able to work from home, since I am partially disabled. Thank you so much for this video!

Great video! I started being a virtual assistant earlier in this year and the start up was a breeze! Getting clients has proven to be a little tougher but I watched a different video of yours saying to do some free work for testimonials and referrals and in one day I completed a few tasks and received a few reviews. This stuff works!

I think that is a great idea, but although becoming a VA can seem like an easy job, if you've never done any kind of assistant roles before you may run into some road blocks. Make sure you do your research and ensure you have the proper experience and training so that you can become successful because at the end of the day its about the clients you serve. I hope that makes sense.

Yes! This is so encouraging! I've been on the hunt to work remotely, searching through countless call center jobs, submitting my resume and completing application after application. However, deep down I knew this wasn't exactly what I wanted since I would most likely need to have a home base to work from. My dream is to travel with my hunny and our dog in our RV and work where ever I am. And looking into the bigger picture, eventually being able to be there for my future family, so after much research I found the option of becoming a virtual assistant! This is something I can feel confident about going into and I can't wait to take the next steps. Thank you, Gillian!

Hi Gillian, I honestly don't know why youtube recommended this video again to me. BUT!!!!!!! This was actually the video that made me consider working remotely. I didn't become a virtual assistant, but I did manage to have a remote work I liked (Editing videos, and After effects motion graphics). I'm fairly new, just a couple of months in. But I am really having a blast, it's a far cry from getting stuck in traffic, and eating drive through fastfood all the time. I also get to pursue further learning of the things I am interested in, like online marketing and web design. Thank you so much for doing the upload. I wish you and your family well! Great video and some good ideas about becoming a Virtual Assistant. I would also suggest one check out their local newspaper and see what networking opportunities are going in one's town. Another idea, if one is a college graduate connect with your alumni association. Also, connect with your local chamber of commerce or local organizations that help small business owners ( E.g., SCORE). Besides Facebook, LinkedIn can help as well. And I recommend creating business cards.

You can also search EventBrite for networking events in your area. Attend networking events, conferences, etc to seek out opportunities for free clients and target possible paying clients....and yes....take plenty of business cards.

I found this video very inspiring. I have struggled with settling in with the normal 9-5 positions. I have a B.S. in Business Administration but yet it still seems hard to land a decent paying position with hours I need for my child. I think by starting my own business like this would allow me to have my own control and flexibility in which I seek.

I'm considering starting a new career so I can stay home and look after my terminally ill pet. Once she passes, my plan is to travel for at least a year; maybe settle in a new country, and being a virtual assistant seems like a job which can travel with me. As an executive with a tech company, it is a little nerve-wracking to cast off the safety net which comes with a fulltime, well-paying job; however, the freedom provided by being a virtual assistant outweighs the fears. I have been a virtual Assistant for three years I absolutely love it. I started off with a little sites like up work and fivver…..And realized that going local is the way to go. Yes I still work for another company in another state but I found the app work and fiber did not pay, and the customer always complain about the work keep the work and not pay you

Becoming a virtual assistant would enable me to become present for my child. As a single parent, I juggle work, doctor's appointments and school. If I worked from home, I can take care of my child on PA/PD days and breaks without paying a sitter. I won't have to ask for time off for doctor's appointments.

This will be an amazing job with my brand because my niche reaches out to women entrepreneurs with mood disorders who may need that extra help with their business/company. This will allow me to give them a helping hand to complete daily tasks and help keep the work load off to give them a peace of mind. I've been teaching high school for the last few years but work stress has been getting to me (sleepless nights due to deadlines) and I've decided to work from home building a couple of blogs and vlogs of my own! Random, but I am so happy you mentioned Weebly. A lot of people talk up Wix, but I tried it before and it's not as easy as they make it seem. Weebly, I feel, is more user friendly. You just might not the little extra fancy that Wix gives you.

Wix, Weebly, Squarespace... they certainly all work. My favorite "easy" website program is actually Squarespace. If you're looking for something more professional (though also more challenging), then Wordpress can't be beat. :)

I really need to figure out a way to make this a reality for myself. My soul is crushed working in food service making barely above minimum wage, dealing with a hostile work environment, and all of the physical labor draining me daily. Ok this is actually genuinely helpful. You did a terrific job of making this video. I have recently been looking into doing virtual assistant work. I would love this opportunity to help others by doing things I already know how to do. I love converting text into video and already have experience doing this for several years. I even have been hired through the freelance website Fiverr several times for it. Though if would be nice to have a steady stream of work and be able to work from home. Keep up the good work. Hi Gillian, Thank you for sharing your ideas and knowledge. I'm interested in becoming a virtual assistant so I can raise my son and not have to put him in after school care. I also work better being independent. I enjoy helping people, I'm an excellent communicator and very organized so I feel this would be a great fit for me. I'm very motivated to be successful for myself and my son and I'm not afraid of failure. You learn from failure and push through. Where there's a will there's a way! ♥️🙏😁

Hello. Just watched this video again. Yes, I am looking to become a freelance Virtual Assistant for 3 main reasons: 1) Not getting ahead in my current job. 2) Looking to be MORE than just a call taker in a call center. 3) To replace my overtime income with MY own side income. 4) To make an informed decision about what career change to pursue. Whether starting a part time freelance career, a home business or to find another corporate job as a Virtual Assistant or related job position.

I’m definitely hoping to become a virtual assistant! I have 3 years of administrative support experience in office settings and have gained many relevant skills in that. Now that I am pregnant with my first child I am hoping I can become a virtual assistant to help avoid childcare costs.

Its always been a dream to really be my own boss and I want my kids to know that they can do it too! When their of age. I want to spend more Time with my kids with out feeling drained all the time.
