I'm fascinated by the snarky people who have to add their useless remarks here. RU-vid has this amazing feature built into it that is free for everyone and it's called UPLOAD YOUR OWN VIDEO. Lee and Patrick are two of the nicest guys out there, They ARE very good at what they do and all I can do is sit envying some of the amazing projects I've seen them work on over the years. The coolest thing about them is they share what they know so that some of us can take it and try to live our own dream with it. One very key point that Patrick made was it only took him a year to get his groove going. With all the knowledge Lee shared with him, he could leapfrog forward much quicker than others. With a video like this - so many questions can be answered that might take a person years to figure out on their own. And they back it up 100% saying you get all of your money returned if you aren't happy with it. I have a simple request for all the trollish people lurking around here. When you decide to leave a trashy comment - at the very end please leave a link for all your own awesome videos and websites that you built to share all the cool things you've worked on. No???? Awww yeah, I didn't think so.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This video is INVALUABLE to anyone wanting to get into wedding photography. I shot my first wedding, without any experience assisting, from start to finish and the only way I could have done that was by watching this video. Absolutely amazing job guys. It would be good if you could make one especially for the business and advertising side, would definitely buy that!

Watching it now, 2019. Patrick and lee has been inspiring me with their content. Watching this more like a support to keep starting the wedding business. Oh yes, i'm just starting. Having nothing sort of luxury gear. But, i optimist, i will succeed.
@Spookychris01
@Spookychris01 10 лет назад
Must just be me... but ive never seen all that amount of lighting at a wedding. Ive done 4 weddings with just a camera, and one lens. (film and digital), and the photos were received with firm handshakes. You really dont need sooooo much gear.
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 10 лет назад
well you def need 2 cameras, 2 lenses, and possibly 2 flashes...just incase something breaks. What do you do if your only camera jams or breaks?
@ctarneson
@ctarneson 10 лет назад
Of course you don't NEED so much gear. A point and shoot takes pictures. But if you're paying someone to do a professional job, you probably want them to have decent, pro stuff.
@ctarneson
@ctarneson 10 лет назад
Spookychris01 Opinion noted, but I am rather surprised that you hold to it. Why would you be against someone having good gear and being prepared for different light situations? Don't you think it's a good idea to be open to better lighting techniques and equipment? I take journalistic-candid style photos as well, and having good gear doesn't diminish that. Having the equipment ready doesn't mean you always use them. Being prepared is just good business. I don't use half the stuff these guys do, but I'm open to learning and using new things to improve my shots, one technique at a time. It isn't just about good timing - good lighting can be also be the difference between catching that one important moment or missing it. One camera and one lens would 'suffice', like you said. But this video is about going beyond what 'suffices', and pleasing customers who are paying us to do a good job - no matter what happens. That includes being prepared for terrible lighting situations, for when your lens or camera breaks, and for shots that need a wide angle instead of a 70-200. If the couple wants their photos to 'suffice', sure - I get that, and they can get what they pay for. But many couples want their photographer to be reliable, prepared, and to have equipment worthy of how much they are paying them.
@mrmeadowsiscool
@mrmeadowsiscool 10 лет назад
Fstoppers Fans you dont NEED it. However, it is a good idea. I too rock with one camera and one lens, and a spare body. Spookychris01 Its simply stylistic choices. Some photographers like doing composite imaging, as well as strobe lighting. I personally am a natural light shooter who utilizes color and bokeh. Although here and there flash at weddings can look interesting on some shots, however it does get old sometimes.
@OneofakindKnight
@OneofakindKnight 10 лет назад
Spookychris01 Natural light all the way. I would rather use a lamp and a reflector if I needed to rather than standard flash, or even time it with a sunset silhouette. Not as personal, but can give a wow factor. I'm only an amateur assistant photographer, though, I really don't know much.

The point of this was to inspire people that they can make a good living shooting weddings relatively easily. I honestly believe anyone can do it and once someone makes the jump from hobbyist to at least full time weddings, then they can branch out and do any other type of photography they want. We are releasing excerpts from the tutorial on our channel so you can pick up some tips through those videos.

Bug off, I bought the cd and it is incredible. Hoping one day to go to charleston to visit these guys some day. They are incredible and their work speaks for itself. So many photographers buy expensive gear without knowing how to properly hold a camera, so $300 is nothing compared to that.

I'm not sure I follow....what is a good option to become a wedding photographer? Wedding photography has been the stepping stone many great commercial and advertising photographers have used to quit their full time day jobs to pursue photography. Once they make the jump to commercial work they delete their wedding portfolios but it happens quite a bit. I love shooting weddings though personally, commercial work can be more stressful IMO

We might consider having a sale down the road. At the moment, we feel like for 14 hours of content $300 is a reasonable price. I know when I started getting started I paid over $300 a few times attending WPPI and traveling to see David Jay's tour (which changed my life really). If you want to jump into a career in wedding photography, I don't think you can ever hold back on education if that helps you achieve your goal. One can probably make $300 assisting a pro after about 3 weddings.

Most assistants get paid $20-$30 an hour but if you are just getting started you could easily have some friends help for $15. I'd say you could easily start a wedding business with only about $3000. You can make quite a bit assisting other photographers and save up. In order to have 2 bodies, 2 lenses, and two flashes, that would cost about $4-$5k which really isn't that much considering you could easily make about $20K a year just shooting about 20 weddings easily.

Minus a full frame camera I have the lenses(16-35mm f2.8L and 70-200mm f2.8L) and 600EX-RT. I have been trying to get into wedding photography but I'm nervous to do it alone. I make call after call trying to find a photography company in the area to let allow me to assist but never get any luck. How do you get into the business and build experience without going in on your own and potentially tanking?

we might do a sale around the Holiday season. At the moment we feel like 14 hours is worth $300. Honestly it's not even that much if you consider how much it would cost to shadow your favorite photographer, pay for a flight to a workshop, or even simply pay for the admission to a workshop. We hope everyone who buys this can rewatch it over and over so they can learn each time after the initial viewing.

Love the photos, but more so, I can't stop watching the video because of that gorgeous face and hint of smile guy on here at the beginning that is so captivating....touche´. :-) Just stating the obvious!!! And for those hating on the gears, everyone as a photographer, is an artist for most. To each their own but if you are charging for your services, do not underestimate your situations and be prepared. You can get creative with only so much, the rest you rely on your gear and lighting....:) Happy Shooting!!

After I watched this video I realized that this is made for a photographer with a team. The sad part is most of us are a one man team doing a wedding shoot. I hope they will come up with a video for a one man photographer.
@dpa03
@dpa03 8 лет назад
Then you should probably second shoot for someone until you can afford to have a team.
@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck
@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck 8 лет назад
Dan Asghar great answer. Instead of solving a problem and come up with a video of being a lone shooter you came up with a very brilliant, intelligent and genius answer
@dpa03
@dpa03 8 лет назад
+Hernani in my experience if you can't afford a team you are either 1. Don't have the skillset to be a wedding photographer yet. 2. Just starting out 3. You just bought a camera and want to make money from it and maybe want to quickly get around years of struggling to make it big. 4. All of the reasons above. Now if just one of those is true then you shouldn't be advertising yourself to anyone who wants to give confidence and money to you to capture the most important day of their life. You don't have be experience yet and are gambling with someone else's big day. So. Second shoot. Build experience and maybe a portfolio of wedding photographer. Get a job to supplement income during the week (weddings are usually on weekends). After a year or two your abilities will improve you photos will be better you will have networked and saved some cash from working your regular job hopefully and then you can afford to hire an assistant for $100 a wedding.
@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck
@ChoicesHabitsAttitudeLuck 8 лет назад
+Dan Asghar that is true. But they should have put a label on this video that they are selling that it is not meant for a lone photographer.
@dpa03
@dpa03 8 лет назад
+Hernani I hate to tell you this man...there is no such thing as a lone shooter at a wedding. It's a given, that you should have assistants and sometimes (most) a second shooter. Unless this is your first day learning about wedding photography. If you are lone shooting a wedding you are not a wedding photographer yet. It's like someone complaining about this video and then saying "whoa whoa whoa I have to buy gear???? You didn't tell me that!" Google videos for lone shooters (no assistant and no second shooter) and I'm pretty sure you will struggle finding anything helpful. They won't make a video for lone shooting because it should not be done and is detrimental to the industry and frankly no need for one because it's unrealistic. There will be success stories here and there of someone pulling one off, but not too many successfully doing it consistently. It's not fair to your bride and groom, you simply can't capture everything without a team.
