@NurseJanetG
@NurseJanetG 3 года назад
@@versacenoose1271 don't go to nursing school is you want to get into aesthetics. go to nursing school because you have this innate need to care for others and want to care for humans. that is how you know you got into this field for the right reasons. Imagine you go into nursing school just to inject people and once you start injecting, you realize you don't like it. That is when I find a lot of people in my field feel lost :( but if you go into nursing because you want to care for others, your job opportunities are endless AND you will be happy in the long run

Hi Janet! Thank you so much for this video!! I am currently in nursing school studying a BSc.in Nursing (Intellectual Disability/Intellectual Developmental Disability in the US). I'm in my 3rd year (one more year to go!😪) And I already know I do not want to work in this area of nursing. I originally wanted general nursing and then work in med-surg and eventually theatre nurse. Something about working in hospitals especially in the surgical/medical side of things really really interests me. Unfortunately, I did not get to go down that route. I am now looking into Aesthetic nursing (idk how I came across it or thought of it anymore) but I don't know much about it and I am nervous about taking this route because I'm an introvert but when I have patients and in a working environment for some reason I am more extroverted than introverted 😂 I am interested in this type of nursing and the more videos I'm watching I think I'm more interested in the skin care side of things and laser hair removal sounds pretty cool!
@NurseJanetG
@NurseJanetG 4 года назад
Hi!! Wow what a journey! Do you live in another state? I didn't know nurses had to choose a specialty in school! I just did general and you could technically get a job anywhere! I am the most extroverted introvert out there lol I am super shy, but at work and with my patients I am different. That is a good balance, you will be just fine :) always just find a connection with your patients and build trust! it goes such a long way. I can recommend a few good skincare books for you! go ahead and email me and ill link them :) Skincare took me a while to get the hang of, but now I love it!

@@NurseJanetG Hi Janet! Thank you for getting back to me! 😁 I live in Ireland. Here you can choose a specialty but you can also do general nursing as an undergrad. I applied for general but I also included specialities just to increase chances of getting into nursing school. But sadly, I didn't get the discipline of nursing that I really wanted 😔. However, I am excited about going into aesthetics as it's different and I really didn't know that there was such a thing as aesthetic nursing. It sounds pretty cool! Thanks for the tip of developing a relationship with patients as an introvert 😂And Yes I will send you an email for the skin care books. Looking forward to more videos on your channel! 😊👍🏾

But now I’m excited for more as an esthetician you can do a lot but it only scratches the surface. I’m interested in dermaplanning, Microneedling and micro blading. You need different type of education and licenses for all three which I find dumb since they are all tied together. I’ve been looking for this type of info for a year. I’m struggling to commit to nursing school but it must be done! I have my esthetician license in NJ, we need a med license to perform advanced tx. I wanted to do chemistry too to formulate products and get to the business side of things. my budget is the one that’s gonna go thru it unfortunately

I want to work in the field of injectables such as botox and lip filler . Do you recommend me to do a medical assistant program then get my certificate in filler and then look for a job at a spa? Or should I go for my associate's degree in nursing?

So if you said you don’t have to go to nursing school just to be an aesthetic registered nurse then how else can you become this? Thanks!

Can you please explain how do we get that initial hands on work experience before applying for an aesthetic nurse job? Because most dermatology practices and medical spas require you to have a couple years of experience before they hire you. Getting that experience to land a job as a nurse injector seems difficult, I have been trying for a while. Please help!!

Hi! I see you went to Mount Saint Mary’s University! I am currently a high school senior and I was recently accepted into the pre-nursing program there. I really want to be an Aesthetics nurse but confused on what some of the steps are to become one. So after finishing nursing school, in order to obtain your certificates to be able to administer Botox, were these classes fairly hard or easy to pass since they were only 1-2 days? I was also wondering how long it took you to become an Aesthetics nurse excluding the amount of time you were a floor nurse? I’m only a 17 year old and still trying to figure things out and your help would really mean a lot! xo

Hi Jackie! Omg yayyyy! Congrats!!! So after you are done, you have two choices: 1. Find a job that will train you to do Botox, Fillers, etc (some plastic surgeons will). 2. Take a certificate class FIRST (I know few people who have done this without a job) and then go find a job. This is probably not the ideal way. I would say find a place to work FIRST (like a surgeons office or laser place) and let them know you want to take the dive into aesthetics. The courses aren't like you take a test after. You learn about Botox and filler and then you do it yourself with your instructor watching.This is why I think it is SOOOO important to find a SMALL class setting. That way the instructor can watch you! I did a one day class on Botox and injectables and then just began injecting that very week! This was also 4 years ago and this field wasn't as big. Nowadays, you can shadow someone! We have shadowing and interning at The Things We Do :) when you're ready, you can reach out :)

Hi! I have a question. I'm interested in pursuing this career and I was wondering if getting an ADN to take the NCLEXRN to become a RN is good enough/a good route to become an Aesthetic Nurse. Or is it more favorable if you have a BSN? As you mentioned doing a whole 4-year nursing school to be an Aesthetic Nurse is a long and hard process so I'm just looking to do it in the least amount of time with enough credentials. Hoping for your response!

I know what you mean abt toxic work environments.. especially on the floor. Everything is so stressful that they only think about their own pain. There's not a lot of empathy going around. I no longer work for places like that. My current workplace doesn't stress me out so much. Many other places should be like this

I’m an MRI Technologist who had loved aesthetics for years. I keep going back and forth on should I go back to school. Your video was so helpful. Im so worried about leaving my comfort salary as opposed to doing what I love. How did you find a place to train and hire you being new? That’s what I’m worried about.

I’m in the exact same boat as you!! Been a MRI tech for 15 years and I make good money and am very comfortable in my career now, but my heart is in aesthetics, that is my passion. Really struggling with whether or not I want to start over 😩

So what would you suggest instead of going to nursing school for that long for things we won’t even be doing?
@NurseJanetG
@NurseJanetG 3 года назад
Unfortunately, in the US AND CALI nursing school would be necessary. These are medica treatments but the “prettier” side of medicine 😌 Nursing school gives you good knowledge for the basics of aesthetics and then you fine tune it once you graduate.

If I wanted to become a NP in aesthetics, what do you recommend I specialize in at school since aesthetics is not currently a specialty taught in NP school? Would you recommend FNP, Women's Health, Gerontology or Psychiatry?

im still not getting it so if your already an RN you have to get certified to do injectables like lip fillers and botox and stuff like that? i need to know because im really interested in this field
@NurseJanetG
@NurseJanetG 3 года назад
Hiii! Sorry it took me a while! :) you don't need an actual certification (in Cali or the USA at least) but you get a certificate when you take classes. Its weird, but there is a difference between going through a certification process vs getting a certificate after you take a class. The only certification in our field is CANS :) i hope that makes a little more sense for you.

video coming soon! But to answer your last question, you need to go to nursing school (or MD, or PA). to be an esthetician you need to go to cosmetology school (this is in cali of course :) and most of the USA)

At the beginning you said you don't recommend going to school for four years to be a RN incase you don't like it just to become an aesthetic nurse and then you say get your RN license and then try to get into a surgeons office that might possibly train you as an aesthetic nurse... So confused. Is there away to become an aesthetic nurse/injector without a 4 year degree or not?

Hello thank you for sharing ! I have a question I’m looking to start in this field and I am in California so I know I need to go to nursing school . Hey guys I’m about to enroll into esthetician school , and once I get certified I’m hoping to attend a RN program ! I took a CNA class to see if I was okay with the nursing field I highly suggest ! I love working with residents ! I was so scared to do something like this but at one point we just have to let go of judgment and go for it !

Hi thank you for this video! I’m a little confused on one part. I’m a new RN working in the hospital. I want to transition into aesthetic nursing. Would I have to get certificates before even applying to work at med spas? Bc you mentioned this is a backwards route but I don’t understand how I would work at a med spa with no training. Are med spas required to train you even without certificates?
@NurseJanetG
@NurseJanetG 3 года назад
Certificates are just to show you took classes. You don’t NEED them but sometimes it’s hood to shoe you are invested in your education. Some med spas will hire someone without experience and train them (regardless if you have a certificate).

I have a question regarding this field. Would it be best to start out in a big city or a small town just to gain some experience?? This is my main goal after nursing school and I was thinking about probably applying to companies in NYC! thank you!:)
@NurseJanetG
@NurseJanetG 3 года назад
Hi Faith! Honestly it doesn’t really matter! Wherever you find a food place to work, will work :) You also should think about the demographic..some small towns know nothing about this stuff so maybe that would be a challenge, BUT the upside is you’d be the best injector there and they’d all trust YOU!

I appreciate this video so much Janet! Thank you for sharing your experiences because there aren't many videos about this topic! I sent you a DM on IG too to ask a quick question. But I also wanted to ask, how did you put together your resume/cover letters when applying to these med spas/plastic surgeons offices, especially without any experience in aesthetics? Or what would you say to these businesses through social media/emails to get hired? Thank you!!

As far as resumes, just be honest. My first job as a laser nurse I let them know I had NO experience in lasers, but I wanted to gear towards injections and my manager who interviewed me is one of my friends to this day! Honesty goes a long way with people. I wouldn't DM anyone, but I would find their e-mail and just reach out. It never hurts to ask!

@NurseJanetG 3 года назад
don't go to nursing school if you want to get into aesthetics. go to nursing school because you have this innate need to care for others and want to care for humans. that is how you know you got into this field for the right reasons. Imagine you go into nursing school just to inject people and once you start injecting, you realize you don't like it. That is when I find a lot of people in my field feel lost :( but if you go into nursing because you want to care for others, your job opportunities are endless AND you will be happy in the long run
