I didn't see any need to watch a video on this but now I wish I did a few days ago. It isn't so much the measuring aspect (witch will come in handy) but the technique. I just went at it in one go and just as I got to about 90 the pipe snapped and now I have no spring. I see the trick is moving from outer point to the centre point bit by bit. good job it was just a practice run. Ill get it right now thanks to you. great vid.

If I were overly pedantic, then I would look at 11:58 and say he cheated a bit because the radius is about 60 mm and the markings are at approximately 58mm. If you want a radius of 60mm then the length of the bend would be 60mm*Pi/2=94.2mm. So actually if you want it ultra precise then you had to mark the long distance 4 times the pipe diameter (60mm=the radius) like it is done here and the small distance would be 94.2mm - 60 mm = 34.2 mm = 2.28 times the pipe diameter. So if you mark it with 4 and 2 like done here, the resulting radius would be 57.3mm . He compensated by bending the radius a bit larger to 60mm and on top of that a tiny bit more to get the outer markings centered in the bend (There is a tiny offset of (60-57.3)/2=1.4mm ). But there''s no need to be overly pedantic, I think the precision is good enough for pipe bending and it''s easier to remember 2 instead of 2.28 (if I calculated it correctly).

Seen someone use spring on outside of pipe to bend it. It worked.

what make spring do you find best . Tried rothenburger useless too loose in pipe an kinks , sure some springs made for old copper that was thinner internal bore due too thicker walled pipe. MY old school spring has given up ghost after 30 years . So im sending for the draper expert pipe bending spring which looks similar to the one i have at moment £8 on amazon and 600 mm long

ps iv noticed my original spring is tight fit inside pipe , the rothenbuger one is a loose fit , whats your opion on size of spring inside pipe ? do you think it matters if spring loose or snug fit inside the pipe ? check comment below also cheers ian

i have a [pipe thats needs pushing back it came away from my raditor but i worried i snap the pipe @ floor level its on a concrete floor it feeds the rad

I started my apprenticeship in 1974, though there was a few bending machines around, most of the Tradesmen still used Springs. 35, 42 & 54mm Tube was annealed & bent round a tree. Thanks Del that brought back some happy memories👍👍

Seems you'll do anything to formulate a video. We have bending machines now and that is what should be taught!! It's not only an out of date method, it involves wasting gas and adding CO2 to our environment to anneal the copper tube! A re-think is required!!!
