James your knowledge around plumbing and everything in general is ace , you was taught extremely well. But what iam impressed with is the way you conducted your videos the way you explain things is something else i find it very hard to understand stuff being thick the way I learn is by hands on rather than theory. But the way you explain even i understand you explain better then my teacher when i first started but not only that your work is outstanding you take proper pride in it . I did my C&G Plumbing and heating Lv2/Lv3 back in 2014 but I walked away from the trade after struggling to find an apprenticeship. I've done little jobs here and there since leaving college but I just couldn't seem to get the ball rolling. Looking back I really feel like I missed the boat. Emigrate to North America. Canucks and Yanks use fittings everywhere. I was sent pics of a first fix in Canada that was all elbows and straight lengths... To be concealed later, and with fewer supports than I'd have liked... Discussing it with another (US) tradesman, I was told he wasn't permitted under their "code" (regs) to bend tube. I sent him a couple of pics of rad drops in my house, 22 and 15, offset to miss the upstairs floor joist and my coving and asked him whether he'd prefer to see two knuckle elbows in each offset... can't remember what the response was, but I know which I prefer... The days will come here, when fittings will become the norm...

In America we don’t bend plumbing pipes a lot, so I’m wondering is the copper you use more flexible? We have 3 “grades” of copper that all have different thickness’ and the stuff we use for plumbing is some of the thickest and I don’t know that it would bend without kinking

Thanks for the videos: I have a question that is slightly off topic which I hope someone can help me with: I have loud clicking sounds underneath the floorboards which I am planning to fix by lagging the pipes that are touching the joists or floorboards. As I have access to pipes, I plan on lagging all the pipes in order save some energy and here is where I need your advice on. I have a heat only boiler with an F&E tank, therefore should I also lag the return pipe back to the boiler? Thanks
@robertlawson8572
@robertlawson8572 2 года назад
Hair felt. Comes flat in rolls (which you'll want) or stitched as a sleeve, which I'd have used on first fixes... The tube, as it expands and contracts will slide noiselessly in the joist notches if the notches are lined with hair felt. Tubes installed in joist notches can't sensibly be insulated, since joists can't generally be notched deep enough to accomodate insulation..

I think it’s sort of up to you, however the bigger the offset is the bigger the angle you’ll probably want for example if you did a 30 degree for a 100mm offset that’d be a 200mm distance between the 2 Bends whereas a smaller bend at a bigger angle would probably look better

You may not need to re-pipe the 10mm, you can actually push a surprising amount of heat through 10mm pipe. Resistance on long runs can be an issue but if worked our properly and an understanding of your available pump head and heat exchanger resistance you are likely to be okay. Personally I'd look at system balancing first.
