The tutorial video was filmed at my College (CONEL) with the 1st Year level 2 Apprentices. Its about the Centre to Centre bend. Not the vent pipe or its formula. Thanks to those that have asked me questions.
This is an EXCELLENT instructor. Covers all the details, logically and in order, and anticipates and has a solution for each problem that might arise. Very impressive!
What a great demonstration. I've done loads of diy plumbing over the years but never realised that there was a measuring science to getting bends precise. Always used a spring and solder joints to get the job done. I have to reconfigure my central heating pipework ready for a new boiler, so today I am buying a set of benders and I am going to do it properly. Thank you.
Superb demo and video Paul. I'm just an amateur plumber. Great for the lads that they can watch your video again before and after the class, not to miss anything. I always think with education you need three goes. 1st stage get over the bewilderment, 2nd stage learning, and 3rd stage reinforcement, memory, and questions. Hope to see all those lads smile when they've got good jobs.
Thanks again I have just done a critical bend on chrome 15mm and it has gone perfectly following your instructions. My first bend in over 15 years. I am an amateur with a bar bending machine
I have been placed on an experienced plumber course for C&G level 2, so i have no tuition to help me on my level 2. Your videos, and they way you explain things are such a help. being pushed to sit my exams and do my assessments in the next 3 weeks is daunting to say the least, so thank you for putting your videos out there.
Huge thanks Paul for your encouragement. I did my level 2 City and Guilds, OK, only part of it at Conel, it's a long story, and and am now working as a Plumbers Mate towards my NVQ to become fully qualified. It's been a strange journey, but a great one!
You are amazing teachear and polite. Stundents will lear a lot from you. When i did my plumbing course the teachear was rude and bulling many student left because of him, i was going to leave also but i stood up for my self and i did not tolerate his behavour. A year later that teacher got firet from two different school where he was teaching plumbing. The course centre is London, Barking Millinium Academy. Greeting from Albania. 🇦🇱👍🇽🇰
A far easier method of C/C 90 degree bends is to Lay your pipe flat. Put a level/timber piece along the short end Measure your 300mm and mark it Put pipe in bender, using a set square align the mark on the pipe with the inside of the bending machine guide Now pull your 90 Also guys, pull EVERYTHING, that’s how you get good. I was installing a pressure reducing set up on a mains fed cylinder. I could have easily used 2 elbows to join pipe tees that were running horizontally, but instead I came out of the first pipe, turned 90 and ran towards the nearest wall a metre away. I then bent the pipe down just so I could get a bracket on it. After the bracket I pulled another 90 ( which was horizontally level with the bottom pipe) back away from the wall back towards the cylinder. Lastly another 90 to get the pipe into the bottom pipe tee piece. All perfect using this method, quick to do, no leaks on a pulled bend, less resistance on a pulled bend, much better looking than a fittings.
It was a redesign from an old painting and decorating workshop. I was in it from the start, unless you were a P&D student or maybe you were a property maintenance student…
What the Hell … 😅😅😅😅 . I’m studying in this workshop at the moment . it’s ( Enfield & North West London ) college . I fixed a leaking pipe behind the instructor ( if you notice ) last week . 😇😇😇.
Hi, does anyone know how to bend flat copper pipes? I understand I'd have to stuff the flat copper pipes with, like, fine sand so that kinks won't form when bending. But is there a specific tool to bend flat copper pipes with?
Paul, there’s no vices or square on-Site. You use a Door Frame for a square. Pulling a 90 on a 22mm tube, Mark your centre & Mark back your tail 100mm(b), the Mark b goes at the edge of your former & you’ll get an accurate bend. The second bend can be done the same way it’s called ‘Mark back’. Last wee point, any vent/expansion pipe must rise a given amount before returning into the storage cistern. It’ll pull air if it too short & Vent over too.
Very good video,I have often wondered if it is possible to bend copper pipe instead of soldering copper elbows to make a ninety degree bend on copper pipe.Thank you and God bless you and your family.
@@PAULOatham The copper cracks or breaks through on the bend making it unusable. I am using the same bender as you, which I purchased from an British firm, and the 6-inch bar that is placed between the copper and bender. Thank you for the quick response.
@@PAULOatham yes, all good. I've done my electrical level 2, my gas and I am doing the NVQ for the plumbing I did with you 2019/20. It was nice of you to answer me, I wish you the best!
@@PAULOatham it's my second week in pre trade course, wanted to learn the principles that go into bending pipe and also how to account for the size of your fittings when connecting together... would you just measure tge thread depth and subtract it from the fitting itself then subtract that number from your pipe lengths?
Why on earth teach people to bend the long part of the copper. And on a desk. My god. They will learn on site it’s so easy. And if they can’t bend 22mm pipe bestchange there job
