If you wish to take a look into some embroidery stitches, I wonder if you can adapt this stitch (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lqroe7N_K0g.html) to multi-signature books. It will probably require asymmetrical holes but I wonder if this is possible, because I think this stitch might look very good on the spine.
Love these! I've been making mini-junk-journals to use up some off-cuts, and now will be able to try these stitches on them. You make the best videos! Thank you
I’m making a junk journal, the book has 6 signatures so, these binding methods will look dope on the outside of the book. But really, I can’t wait to see what you do with 3 signatures.
I tend to do very "DIY"-versions of everything, so even book binding. So, *if I have an idea or question I wanna send to you (preferably private), where would it be best to write to you? Insta DM?* Would you answer there? The things I have in mind writing to you like this, is ideas that I either think could end up as a good video suggestion for you, or I just don't want to share my unfinished ideas/works with everyone etc... Also, it often demands a little more explenations and maybe pictures, so then I feel like they get lost amongst the flow of youtube comments (if I were to write the whole idea at once, and then you/no one ever even sees it)... And I want to ask beforand, because I also don't wanna send it to the e-mail I found, since it says "business inquiries", and I don't wanna make a mess out of your work organization either lol ;)
i’m completey new to this but i was planning on trying it tomorrow. so i have a few questions. for the thread can i just use normal sewing thread or is that to thin. also what are some alternate cover materials? please i just need any help so anything will be appreciated thank you! ☺️ 🙏
Yes, you can absolutely use normal sewing thread for practise purpose, the look and feel of it would not be the same ofc but its good for practise. If you happen to use it, my suggestion would be to double thread it for a little bit more thicker look. You can use embroidery threads as well, they look good!
For cover you can use any type of paper or vinyl material as well. As long as it is sturdy enought. Glue a bunch of newspapers or use kraft paper or even cereal box
Best Resource EVUR!!! Can't wait for your future endeavors & creations. Hope you'll put those all in one video every 7 or 8. Thank you for sharing your passion.
Jennifer, you are a natural teacher!!! I only recently discovered you on social media. Your tutorials are so clear and easy to follow and your calming voice makes your videos a joy to watch. I have learned so much about book binding. Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks.
Cool! These binding stitches are just like the embroidery stitches that I do on fabric. If you look for straight/line stitches, you might find other ones that would work well too. I always enjoy your videos/tutorials! 🌺
You got me started bookbinding when I watched your old videos. I went in many other directions, crocheting and art journaling and just recently got the urge to start making junk journals so this video is perfect timing for me. Thanks so much.
Using different colouring binding makes them all the more lovely and I love all of the diff. stitching. Nice to see fresh ideas, that you always seem to come up with. I suppose you could do a 6 signature journal adopting 6 different binding methods. That would look great too. TFS
So nicely done! I am currently often thinking about ways to vary my "booklets", for example to put in a "traveler's notebook"-inspired cover (so that I can use my favorite papers for sketching, note taking and calculating etc. in it), so chain- and your different knot stitching methods seems SO nice. I also work on refining my portfolio book, inspired by yours and for that one I think "the twist" would be great! Anyway, I'm loving all your bookbinding videos and your very high quality videos! *Thanks for doing what you do!* I'm also looking forward to a similar video for multiple signature books, if you would make it ;)
I've been a binder for many years and I've really enjoyed working through these pamphlet binding stitches. I've never seen anyone wrap the cut ends around the sewing stitch and it gives a very nice look. I learned something new, thank you.
I like these stitches, and the video is really cute as usual.. But WHY did you make the spine so wide if there is so little paper in there? It just seems like a waste of space
That was my preference and I think it displays the binding stitch well. Also the cover width was already set since I was using letter size. I usually try to keep measurements simple too, 1/2” on the holes, why not 1/2” for spine width. There are many ways to bind a book, measurements and paper quantity is totally up to you 😉
You’re just so inspiring and ever so ready to teach new stuff ...it’s really nice to see people who are as dedicated as you ...really enjoyed watching it ...could u make a video on how you edit your videos ??
LOVE THIS! I am curious, though, do you HAVE to make this with a square back spine? Or could you just fold everything in half and bind it all? Or would that just be saddle stitch binding? If that makes sense.
I really enjoyed this video, I love everything to do with notebooks, and this one comes in a great timming! :D It made me also think of a question I really wanted to ask: I always have the same problem when trimming the edges of the pages. I use a cutting mat, a nicer x-acto (I used to have a not so secure one) and a metal ruler, but I always end up with a mess that I cannot correct with a file or sandpaper. I even tried some different types of paper, and try to go as slow and steady as I can. Is there a secret that I'm not aware of or is just my lack of talent? >.< (I'm sorry for not the best english!)
Are you using a light touch when making your pass with the blade? It's been helpful for me to use light pressure and just make several passes to get cleaner, more accurate cuts. When I press harder, no matter how slowly I pull the blade, it creates jagged bits and tears a little. I hope this will help you :)
Steady and light passes with the x-acto seem to help make a smooth edges for me. I agree with Angela, the harder you press, can sometimes make a jagged cut.
@@angelavis5546 Thank you so much, I'll give it a try next time, for sure! Thank you for taking the time to explain so carefully, it's very nice of you! :D Hope you're safe in all this madness ^^
@@SeaLemonDIY Thank you so much for your recommendation, I'll try it next time I make a notebook. I really enjoy your videos and your peaceful vibes :) A big hug from Portugal!
I’m so glad I came across your video!!! I binded my zines for my print making class with the cute little knotted stitch! the theme is cupcake/sprinkles related and it looks so good together 💕🍦🍰
I'm sorry, I just think you are so cute and adorable! Watching you just puts a smile on my face. I should make a calendar of your videos. Is a video calendar a thing yet? Nevermind. You go girl!
Thank you, I always want to try this, I usually making a simple bind with just using staples lol, but with stiches it will make my journal look more fancy and aesthetic ^^
I am so enjoying your videos, so much good info. I came to this craft fairly late in life (I'm 65) & mainly was looking for ways to use homemade paper. So my paper is just too stiff to use in books but I now have the "bug" & so far have made 3 books. I used mail order catalog as a base for one, just glueing pages together, painting, & attaching homemade paper over pages. Made a nice nature guide by gluing dried leaves, pressed flowers, & labeling. Next book I will bind now that I have your videos to refer to. Thanks!

I've just bound my first little sketchbook, and this video has been very helpful. The idea of making one in the first place was also inspired by watching your videos, so thank you very much!
I have never tried bookbinding, but thanks to you I think it's time to try. As for my favourite it has to be your very own stitch (last one shown). It's so clean looking yet creative. Thank you for teaching me bookbinding. Goes to show a person is never to old to learn new things.
I have printed a book for my 2 year kid 100 single sheets on 110 cardstock What is the best durable way of binding it durable ,flexible and easily open ? is double fan or perfect bind sturdy enough for cardstock and kids books ? Or what do you recommend for kids books binding ?
Do you tie a knot in the thread when you single thread the needle? I don't see very well and I couldn't tell if you did or not. Thank you for your time. 🙂
What a perfect timing! Tonight I made two one-section notebook covers and was thinking which binding method I should use. I was almost settling for a boring basic one, but now I'll try one of these 💙
Great video! I was running into a difficult situation requiring to bind a continuous book. Like, after using all 3 signatures of 10 pages each, I want to add more signatures to create a bigger journal - this I know will require the flexible cover. It seems to me at this point that only leather can pull this off, but leather isn't that consistent or wide. Wonder if you have any idea how to create a cover for the ongoing notebook?
This method of stitching is more challenging than it looks on the video. I've just finished the saddle stitch and in spite of making a number of errors I'm quite pleased with my first attempt and know that my technique will improve with practise.
Hi there! I love all your videos and just wanted to check in and spread some positivity. I hope you’re ok, staying safe and healthy. You’re so talented and sweet to share your videos with us. Thank you!
wow. i have a pile of 24 groups of 8 all signatured and now im watching your videos and trying to pick a style to do the covers and the stitches. and ive already watched more than 20 videos. im tired but im excited!! love your tutorials and videos!
Fun binding stitches! I have only done a three hole binding stitch so far. I’ve had trouble with it loosening as you use the book. I used waxed thread and had the stitch super taught. Any ideas why they keep loosening? Or is it normal? I did not go through the previous thread as I sewed either.
Hmm, I'm not sure why it's loosening. Is the thread like a braided linen? The thread from this kit is kind of slippery and loosens, which is why I don't like to use it anymore - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DAPvNVdlCk8.html
Sea Lemon thank you for getting back with me! I will look to see if it is braided. I did get a kit from Amazon but it doesn’t look quite the same. I purchased some other waxed thread from Amazon that I’ve tried. Do you have an affiliate link to what thread you like to use by chance? Thank you so much!
Love all these variations. I have had that Keith Smith book from the library and it is an amazing resource. So much detail it's a little overwhelming! But about your video--so beautifully made. I love the variation with a knot at every hole. I'm about to bind several signatures to one spine and this is what I will use. I hadn't thought about making the binding interesting on the outside but how can I not after seeing all this fun inspiration.
Love all these different stitches for binding books. They will definitely help when I make tn inserts or junk journals💕! Thank you for sharing, take care and stay safe 💗🤗!
Jennifer I have a question for you! I’m creating a book binding resource and instruction guide for my college and I was wondering if I’m leaving out any important or cool bookbinding methods? So far I have saddle stitch, coptic stitch, case bound, Japanese four hole, drum leaf, accordion, kettle stitch, chain stitch, and French link stitch. I’m leaving out disc and spiral bound because most don’t have the supplies. Do you or any of your viewers have ideas of other styles of binding I should include? 😍
This is awesome! So many stitches to try! The lacing stitch was my favorite because it looks so elegant and is so easy. I also want to try the twist after I have a little more practice with the sewing and not splitting the thread when I go back into a binding hole.
I tried stitch fix a couple months ago and this came with it! Thought about making a review vid about my experience but wasn’t sure viewers would want to see a vid like that 🤔
I still like it so far! I’ve kept up with it 3 months into the year. I’ll definitely do a review toward the end of the year to share my first experience with it!
