Here are the steps without the excess words. (1) Take out plastic bleed valve on left side of radiator, (2) while engine is cold, fill the coolant overflow reservoir until coolant appears at the bleed valve opening, (3) replace bleed valve, (4) replace reservoir cap, (5) set car heater to hot, (6) run car until thermatic fan turns on, indicating car has reached operating temperature and thermostat has opened, (7) take engine to 2000 rpm for several minutes to use water pump to force air through the cooling system to the reservoir [Alternatively, do a short test drive], (8) when engine is cool recheck coolant level in reservoir and fill appropriately. Now a 2 minute video. You're welcome.
Thankyou for this tutorial. Would have been nice if you mentioned open the hood. Took me several hours crawling under car before I realized it’s easier when the hood is open.
Hi , not being a know it all arsehole but after 30 years in the trade I would suggest not doing repairs on any machinery with dangly hoodie strings , nothing like getting your face pulled into rotating parts to ruin your day
You wouldn't believe the trouble ppl have when it's not bleed properly. Overheat boil over and a cold radiator hose on the left side that makes you think it's the thermostat...
Literally!! That’s how we found this videooo bc we’ve changed a lot of issues and we were like okay now what’s going on and this was the exact issue mannnnnnn! 🗣️🗣️😫 save the headache lol 😆😮💨
hmm, maybe you can help bled with one of those big nonspill funnels, loads of air bubbles. great heating red hot, coolant temp just under middle. perfect test drive for 10 mins, fine. perfect parked car up, turned off, restarted and temp gauge went straight up to max???
@@jjmmjj9999if you changed thermostat you have, have to use oem! All the parts stores are a motorad thermostat, it's only stamped on the tstat.. they are absolute junk! I've had them fail in 10 minutes before. Not sure if you did that. & If I recall there is a small bleeder you have to remove many times to make sure no air. Let it cool start up & check the bleeder again make sure no air. Don't drive until you monitor & keep checking for air.
@@jeremyr7147 didn't change thermostat, lower rad hose popped so changed that I'll try the radiator bleed screw. I think the radiator fan is blown too since it doesn't come on, but fuses are good I don't have a good bidirectional scan tool to test unfortunately
When getting an aftermarket radiator make sure it has the same oem style bleeder valval. I installed a radiator that had a different bleeder valve and it it broke and having a very hard time finding a direct fit.
I got to say I'm from California us and I love watching your videos they are super informative for my car which is a Chevy Cruze. Thank you so much for creating these videos.
Should not be, engine light can be for lots of reasons, if you have a tool like a BlueDriver you can connect to your phone to see what the code is and search online for its meaning. Alternatively call a reputable mechanic and ask if you can go past to find out what the code means.
Thanks 😊. I have a 1.4 Turbo, I’ll look 👀 for that air bleed bolts, at the top of my radiator. Thanks. I usually take it on the thruway at 65- M.P.H., that’s 2,000 R.P.M.’s / in 6 the gear on cruise for about a hour. Heater on high, blower on high. Park it for a few hours. I always carry at least a gallon of mixed coolant. 2012 Sonic hatchback, 1.4 T/6- spd.
Thanks for the video! For cars with the pressurized coolant tank, is it necessary to open the bleeder valve? From what I read in the Chevy Sonic repair manual, I understand the coolant tank acts as the central bleeding location. It allows air bubbles to be collected automatically. Did I misunderstand the repair manual? Thanks!
If the temperature keeps rising ..and I already change the thermostat housing ..the pcv valve..the temerature sensor in the radiator and flush the cooling system ..it has to be the head gasket..I'm done with Chevy cars ..those things are lemons period
If my reservoir tank went empty (damn near just to the level right before that bottom hose can intake any fluid) can I simply just top off the fluid to the correct level without any issues or will I have to bleed it ?
Hey buddy Great Video. Listen I just replaced Thermostat on my 2012 Cruze 1.4 Turbo, and it’s reaching temperatures of up to 234 then drops to 228. At 228 the fans kick on is this normal ? Thanks in advance buddy. Also temperature while driving now stays from 226-234 just wanna know if that’s normal.
I’ve been fighting an overheat issue on a 2012 Cruze for a week now. I did not see a bleeder on the radiator. Im going to check that as soon as I get to work this morning
@@frankierodriguez5620 no I didn’t still overheating. I replaced water pump with a cheap eBay. I think that might be my problem. It doesn’t seem to be circulating. And the “new” water pump is making a squeaking noise.
@@frankthomas2231 the same thing happened to me I bought a water pump on eBay and it was squeaking, to fix to fix this problem you have to make sure the belt is lined up with the AC on the bottom, the AC compressor has an extra tooth so if you put it on the wrong side it will squeak.
You're AMAZING! You always help me! I always use a screw driver to get the bleeder screw it broke the front didn't know there was another way..13mm 100% got it! You wife needs to give you a hug from me ❤ thank you for all you do I appreciate you. Anytime I have a question I look to your videos & it's never failed me yet
So when I did this I had ok the bleed bolt out but while I took it out some pressure was there and than a strong stream of water what that mean am I good idk
Im in South Africa, i own a 2012 Chevy Cruze. The expansion bottle overflowed. I bought a new cap and bleeded it through and for some time it was ok. I also kept getting p0011 error, replaced the oil actuators for the vvt sprockets and replaced the oil which was brand new helix 5w40 but still got the error. Also checked the timing again. I did not drive the car for a while. I decided to drive it to the shopping centre just to charge the battery a bit, about 3km there and back to my house. When i got home the coolant pushed out of the overflow through the cap again. Can you or any body mabe give me some pointers on those 2 problems. Thanks
I have a 2012 and them hose on top of the motor are being pinched when i start my car.. fan goes on it kind of releases then get pinched again when it shuts off.. i did all the Technics i seen on youtube which was to release the air out of the radiator like you showed.
Over the past 4 months have to continuously top up coolant reservoir, noticeable puddles on garage floor. Today the engine light came on and the fan seems to continuously run. The aircond no longer blows cold. I plugged in scanner and it comes up with code P0128. Coolant thermostat. Would this mean I need to replace the thermostat or perhaps try bleeding the cooling system?
Definitely helped. I'm an Aviation mechanic, but I knoe Nothing about cars. This helped alot (other than stripping the old valve and having to use chanel locks to get it off lmao)
Color doesn’t matter as long as it says for GM vehicles or says safe for all makes and models. People get stuck on the color thing because 20 years ago if you mixed them they would clog the shit out of your radiator.
Thank you I am going to do this in the morning... Fingers crossed that it works. Because I have changed the water pump the thermostat the coolant tank and radiator and that little heat sensor thing and still overheating. I will let you know if this works!
Hi, Would this be the same process for a Holde Barina TM 2014 Model ? This is the car >> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Barina which is the TM 2011-28 Sixth generation. The equivalent oversees is the chevy aveo second generation >> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Aveo. I found the bleeder screw on mine also and looks pretty much identical to this car in this video except the location of the overflow tank.
Hi Guys I have a Cruze 2.0, when i drive at the high speed it shows error code 89 and when i slow down it disappear. I notice that the coolant tank is cracked. can the crank tank cause error code 89?
That was the best explanation I’ve ever had. Thanks. I have a question btw. I found the coolant reservoir on my new car cracked, but the crack was in the top in such a way that coolant wasn’t leaking at all. I don’t know since when the crack was there, assuming the crack was there since the purchase, is it safe for me covering 8000 kms till I found it? There was no overheating, fan functioning well and the radiator is full. Does the air get into the system? Please help. Thanks.
just replace it...its like $30 for a new one. One day you will drive and the pressusre will bust it open and coolant will go everywhere and youll be stuck
Hi. I changed the thermostat (and coolant) since the car shown the code P0597, after that the car is still overheating after 20-30 mins of use, but there is no check engine light, I check for leaks and there are not. What can be possibly happening? Thanks.-
Eliseo Antonio Torres Ruiz the cooling fans on these quit working on low and medium speed. The high speed doesn't come on till the engine is getting hot. I would look there first.
