@@n2snow I don't like walking in the snow either but if this guy was in the same situation he wouldn't still be climbing up a mountain Would he ? This guy could have saved himself three or$4,000 to fix it that is if he's lucky. Sometimes it's just a stuck ring and if you pull over and stop and let it cool down you just might get it going back home...City boy ,,?
@n2snow hell ya! I've always talked to mine like they were dirty wife's, "you leave me stranded, I leave you!" See ya in the spring bitches!!! I'm in KY so they weren't sleds, just bikes and quads LOL😂
Father has a '93? Elan 50th Anniversary Edition 250 Single-Lunger... Love that machine. 1 finger to lift the tail. When it somehow gets stuck, you can pickup the whole dang thing and just move it over 3ft to the left and go. That Guilty Pleasure of a Sled dragged my '97 SX 700 with frozen/locked-up 136" picked track across the lake for 100ft before the bearings broke free & started rolling -- then we continued at its Max Speed of 28mph 😄🙂 (I mighta sank my Yamaha in the lake the night before. Yup. Took about 6hrs to strip it, dry it, drain water from the fuel tank, and put it back together - then I was back on it again. Soooo anyways, after winching it 100yds through the water, it had frozen on land while we were packing-up the flat bottom canoe, winch w/100ft of cable, 200ft of Rope, Tow Truck J-Hook, etc)
And that’s why I ride a 2012 artic cat snow pro 800. With the Suzuki motor in it. Things a beast and reliable 162 track with all the bells and whistles. She rips the powder like a dream. With tons of power.
All these 800/850 motors are only good for maybe 2500 miles. What a shame these manufacturers can't make a 2 stroke last. Best with just a 600. Sad but true.
Sad is ppl can't take care of there sleds and don't follow recommendations... I've always had and owned high milage sleds! Lol I strip them down every year!
I had, it blew up. Now I got a 1200 4tec, and then will be an ace. For trails, xtra weight is worth it. Electric start and go. Sleds start at 15k and up now, no thankyou
😂😂😂😂 unreal. That’s why I never went big bore. Stayed 600 and have had zero issues. Doesn’t matter the brand. It’s all 800/850’s blowing up. Not 600’s 🤔👌
Absolutely the truth! Only problem, I like more power. This 850 ran perfect up to about 4500 miles. Ran it four year’s without a problem. So that’s not too bad. My 800’s only got about 1700 miles. So they are getting better. Thanks for commenting!!👍👍👍
Interesting. Don’t you have to absolutely rag on a 600 in the mountains though? I would think the big bore would take it better. More HP to spare means you don’t have to keep it pinned as long or as often.
@@brettjohnson1393That’s the thing though you can run the living snot out of a 600 and they just last and last. You don’t have to run the big bores nearly as hard, but they just don’t last as long. I have no idea why.
That snow doesn’t look packed down enough for it. Believe me I had a red 05 viper Yamaha and it did not like the way the snow didn’t cool it down well enough
How many miles before it blew. You’re supposed to change the crank seal behind the clutch and re pack that bearing with isoflex grease every 1500 miles.
There must have been an extenuating circumstances from the factory or prep from the individual! You should be able to ride these sleds less aggressive and without taxing the engines! They should also Thrive at high RPM as long as there is resistance at the track that doesn't allow the motor to over rev and blow! Something going on here?
No context, miles, hours, gas quality, oil quality. If the intent is to suggest the entirety of 850 are prone to premature demise....the statistics say..... that is a lie. Better luck with your next sled.
maybe not holding it at the same throttle position for ever would help blip the go fast lever every once in a while.let me guess the pto side let go cyl scuffed and a big o hole just below the reed cage.
@@n2snow yup that will do it.i have had a few e'tecs come thru from my older guys cruising along and kick a rod and when I pull up the parameters the t.p.s was at 5300 rpms for miles.and watched the Temps just climb and climb.everything checked out on them and putting them back together and never had a problem since.maybe a fluke but had 5 or 6 come in popped.
Oh Boy.. Just got my 2016 XP 550 fan cooled Ski-doo in the shop since it would not start . I had to tow it with my 1997 GT triple with just under 4000 miles ..After that it started revving faster and then blew out a coolant hose . Think it time to go 4 stroke:)
Open the "left" side panel by releasing 3 lock mechanisms (same side as belt/clutch) you will notice a semitransparent jug. Now take some XPS 2-Stroke oil snd fill that container...if you can't afford XPS any ole Canola oil should suffice!
It didn't sound healthy.. I don't have an 850 but they look way faster than that. 98' xc 700 polaris has 8k miles on it since last rebuild & runs like a champ😆 if what people say is true, 2500 miles is lame.. especially if you threw a rod threw the case and bulkhead, ouch.. good video tho
2 strokes are like diesels. If you just pussy foot around and ride like this they will blow. Gotta be fluctuating the throttle so it can burn everything out instead of building up
