How To Break Open A Geode

This geode is from Australia and cost me about $6.00. Always look for a weak spot or a place where it is more indented on the geode to start.
TOOLS NEEDED:
At home laying around: Flathead screw driver
hammer
go outside to brake it
have something under it so you don't damage your cement
SAFEY GLASSES!!!!!!! you can get them at the $1 Tree, or any place that has hardware stuff.
If you want to get fancy: Chisel
ball-peen hammer .....if you hit it directly with the ball-peen hammer it could crack it but it might not give you as nice of an edge.
WARNING: Some can be harder to open and you may actually have a solid one or it maybe a thunder egg. Thunder eggs can be a lot harder and you may need a machine to cut it. If it doesn't brake after an hour of trying......you need to find a lapidary place to get it cute. Don't worry a its between $1.50 to $5.00 for them to cut depends on where you go. Video to come later on difference between geode and thunder egg.
At the place I purchases the geode they had others already open and cleaned out which I felt took away from the fun of having one. When they are broken ahead of time they can run from $20 on up depending on the size and the crystal formation.
NOTE:
This is my first video using Shortcut editing software. I hope to bring better videos in the future.
My Etsy shop name changed recently from The Crystal Tree to NeaMaru Kawaii Gifts

My instagram name changed too but still have a lot of rock images up on their. After all I am a rockhound.

Do you ever use geodes in polymer clay creations?

Glass crystals you can baked with polymer clay but crystal rocks are tricky they can darken and they may have a chemical in them that could be harmful to breath in or could explode. You really need to do your research, not all rocks can be put into an oven. I worked with some rocks that when you cute them asbestos/poison comes out of them. Its the particles in the air when the rock is cut and then you breath it in. Your hands are wet and your skin can absorbed it too. So you have to wear gloves and a breathing fitted mask to catch the particles. When I work on cutting any rock now, I wear a ventilated mask MP3 with filters. Yeah I look weird because I also wear safety goggles and hearing protection. A rock on a saw blade that breaks will go through my glasses and the glass or rock into my eye. So I wear goggles over my glasses. They area rated for shock resistant, like if I was shooting a gun and the bullet bounced back at me, it hits the goggles not me.( wish they do/ I shot a gun a before) Lots of old timers with lung issues from working on rocks for years and your insurance wont cover it, if they know you worked with rocks. So to prevent that kind of exposure I just wear safety gear. Each rock can be a bit different they are made out of chemicals to begin with. So always do your research on what rock you wish to put into a piece of jewelry/polymer clay. Especially if you plan to heat the rock up.

Thank You at least for the information and Your efforts. Probably You might secure the objects to be treated with some solid fixing tool like a bench vise in a wooden work bench (which probably not everyone has at disposition) or a someway heavier Screw clamp (sort of 40 cm length wich is already heavy in itself). Perhaps You could use even the pressure of the bench vise to break open the object, if it's not oversized. Well - thats only brainstorming... And (IMHO) as You probably already noted for Yourself: the background music of Your World premiere video became more a foreground music and buried Your Voice. But who am I to judge You? 😶 Be encouraged to continue with videos as You planned already.

Andreas M. Wielgoß thanks, I am still figuring out how to make videos and hope to get better at them. There is an actual device you can get now that will open geodes and thunder eggs. It's a pressured chain that is slowly twisted around it and pops them open. This was just one way. They usually have them at rock shows. This was a simple one geode and could be lightly tapped. Thicker ones need to be cut. There is also a clap you can put them in and a saw that has oil that will cut through thicker ones and only cost $2 to $5 an hour to use at local rock shops or lapidary schools. I know belong to one and since this know a lot more. I have cut a thunder egg and watch a geode be broken an half. Thank you for watching.
