How to get folds out of vinyl backdrop

I bought this pretty backdrop off of Wish.com and it came with fold lines on it. There are different ways you can try to get these creases out. Steamer and hanging it ( two weeks)
. That didn't work for this material I got. I also brought from different venders.
This method worked for all three backdrops BUT...not all backdrops or irons work the same.
REMEMBER to test a corner out first, try a small edge near where the crease is to see if it leave a mark, and do this in sections. Check..check ..check. Each backdrop you purchase can be different depending on the vendar you go through. I have a blue with flower print, white ( you see in video), and dark wood background (like almost black) I did this one in sections at a time. I did flip it over a few times to make sure it wasn't damaging the background.
So this does takes some time to do this. I roll them up when finished and I have had them ever since. I don't even have to re-iron them once they are rolled up and stored. The dark one did not get any odd creases over the fold lines when I ironed it BUT each material is different and your IRON has different setting. Why I tell you what to set it too in the video. I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Why you need to move carefully but also test out a corner and then test where the creases at. So go to the far side and iron small part that wouldn't take away from the background/ you could crop it out it it were to damage.
IF it looks like it's going to leave a mark/show oddly DO NOT continue to iron the entire background. STOP leave it and come back to it the next day. If the crease/the mark is still their then Iron wont work on this. You will need to try a steamer ( steam on the no picture side) or a hang it with weights and leave it for like a month. I tried this with this backdrop steamer did nothing just got it wet. Hung it up for like two weeks nothing, folds and wrinkles still their. I even did one in the dryer to heat it up...now that damaged it for sure and made it more wrinkled..left wrinkles in the image. ( I had one I had to throw away) If those don't work I'm not sure what you can do those fold marks from the manufacture could be their permantly and they sold you a bad product.
This so far has worked.
Not all Vinyl Backdrops should be treated the same. Each one may have a different process on how it was printed so always be careful and test small parts of it before doing anything to the backdrop. This one was only printed on one side and the image was put on with heat. They have large printers that can do this. Never iron on the printed side you will ruin it.
All three of my backdrops I still have since I made this video and they are all in great condition. You can't even tell they had been folded. Rolling them up helps. like you would a poster. 08/21/2021

July 14, 2021. I just got a 6 x 10 photo backdrop so I can make probably crappy videos for RU-vid and it's really nice material but lots of folded creases. I knew a steam iron worked, but I wasn't sure how hot or should I hang it and steam or use a table. This video was my first video I watched and I don't need any other videos. Thank you very much. To roll it up, I'd use a large round dowling 1 1/4" thick, like a closet pole, just roll it around the pole then pull it out, or leave it in so the picture won't bend. Hope everyone is still alive 3 years after making this and everyone is healthy and happy.

Yep and still have those backdrops too. You can roll them up and then you wont have to keep ironing it. REMEBER keep the iron low at first and try a tiny back side corner. Each backdrop can be a bit different on how much heat it can take. Best of luck to you.

Hi, Rachel. I just bought a 7' x 7' mural of the famous Philosophical Hall of Strahov Monastery, but when it arrived it naturally was scored gridwise with a patchwork of wrinkles. After trying weights in vain yesterday, I was careful today to follow your method with my Mom's old Rowena iron, and it's working well! (My heat setting is halfway between 'Minimum' and 'Synthetic', although I think it could be bumped up a bit without a problem.) Thank you so much for methodically going through and describing the process! (This is a good illustration of the magic of RU-vid and the Internet in spreading knowledge through society.)

I am glad it worked. Remember though each background material is different when you order. Why I tell everyone to test out a small portion they wouldn't care if it gets damaged. So I am happy this worked out for you. I still have these backdrops. I just rolled them up and when needed just unroll them.

I wish they did roll them but I think it has to do with the length of an item. They have to put it in a tube and they figure you can just figure it out. I ship stuff a lot and the other day we were trying to figure out something that was almost 27 inches long and it was $45 priority mail to ship back to a place two states over. Imagine what he price would be if I shipped it across the country. They consider how much space is also being taken up. So my pillow characters I squish down as much as possible when I ship them to keep the cost down. So it's the size more then the weight sometimes that makes shipping price go up. Hoe this swill work for you and remember to try a small portion and if it look like it's starting to damage stop. Your iron is too high or you have a different type of material then what's in the video. Each place can be a bit different when it comes to making these. Why I let people know test it out and start on section that you don't care about that much. I tried a steamer and hanging this did nothing. I unroll these every so often and they still don't need to be ironed again. I even have one that is a very dark...dark wood and it came out lovely. Good luck!

Always test in a small corner. I did the exact same method on a bright Christmas red vinyl backdrop. All the creases had the color around each crease darkened. It now looks like a permanent "brick" pattern. I can only use it with large groups that cover the majority of the banner now.

Ryan Mou'le great hope it will work for you. Remember to test one corner first and start out on low. You can always turn it up. Roll it up when finished. Eat back drop material is different. Foxiepaws ACAnderson thanks for watching and remember to just roll it up when done for storage. As for the iron always start out low and then turn the heat up. Do not use any steam because it leaks water and make the iron too hot.Check to make sure the print looks ok. Have fun with the project.

Always test a section before proceeding. This worked for the backdrops I got off a Wish but all backdrops are not made the same. Some can just be hanged and after a while the wrinkles go away. Not with this type of backdrop from WISH. It's made out of thin material that wrinkles easily. Once rolled up though they don't come back.

Brittany Frisbee remember not to iron on the print,set it to the lowest setting and then proceeded up in temp do small corner. Each backdrop is made out of different material. Some can be be steamed and some just need to hang with weights for a while till they flatten out. To hot will burn the canvas or melt it. So be careful. Roll up to store and iron/hang/steam as needed. Hope it works for you.

@Creative_Shopowner
@Creative_Shopowner Год назад
It will all depend on your backdrop. Take a corner and lightly spray it with some water, use your iron and then let it dry come back see if their is any water marks. Remember not on the printed side. The one in the video is heated treated on so one side is safe to iron on and the other is not. On this one no water stains. It didn't take much water either. Always teste a small section and always on a lower heat first to see how a backdrop will work. You don't want to melt the the backdrop. Each company prints differently and the material can be different, some use plastic and you wont be able to iron it. When done just roll it up and you shouldn't have to iron again for a long time.

Andres knight each back drop is made out of different material. It depends on the company you get them from.So you have to start out very very low. Your iron is way to hot and always try a corner first. If it looks like it is melting it your iron is too hot and might not work on that material. You have to wait for it to cool down. Please read what I have said to other on here. As you saw in the video I didn't burn it.I did three of these and still have them. When done I roll it up. I say to start out low several times in the video. Cold and work your way up to hotter setting. Test small corner first.

@Creative_Shopowner
@Creative_Shopowner 4 года назад
Honeybee Readers two things your iron was way to hot or it was a different type of material. Each iron is different and why I say test a section out. Its better to start out very low and work up to a hotter setting if needed because it can melt or damage the back drop. Slowly check your progress as you go to make sure your not burning it. If your backdrop came from Wish and it has been a while they could be using cheaper materials these days to print on. The image is done by heat transfer just like tshirts are. Why I say take your time, go slowly, and keep an eye on your on each section. Most importantly keep the iron on a low setting so you don't burn it. Others here have managed to make this work. I did 3 back drops with no issue and they still look great ,their rolled up, and it's been more then a year.

@Creative_Shopowner
@Creative_Shopowner 2 года назад
This is just one way to do it. Each material is different. Some people are able to use a steamer or can hang it with some weights on the end of it for a few days to get the wrinkles out. That didn't work for this material. I even tried the dryer on low setting to see if I could heat it up a bit and not melt it. It chipped the design a bit. Not happening. This particular drop still to this day the wrinkles are not their. I rolled it up after I was done and that is how I store them. No more ironing. Got this on WISH it printed on one side and not on the other. This was long video because I stopped to explain how it should be done. You always want to test a corner of the canvas first so you don't melt it. Always start out low you an always go up going down is harder. You iron it like you would any cloths but you have to watch your heat. That's what takes the longest to figure out because your figuring out how much heat you can put safely on it. Try handing it or try using a steamer on it. It might work for you. It didn't work for this particular canvas but not sure what yours's is made from so it could work yours and make the process go faster for you.

@@audreyfraser2806 Why I say to be careful and just test out a small section that you can easily cut off or cover up. Some steam can work or just hanging them for several days. I hung this one for several days and tried to steam it with no luck. So this method was the only one that worked. I then just rolled them up. I still have the back drops from this video. They are not damaged but I went slow, I checked underneath to make sure it wasn't hurting them every so often. Each iron is also different too. Why I start out with barely any heat and then see what will take the crease out. Why I also use a spray bottle and not the actual water that comes out of the iron. The water out of the iron puts a bunch of water on that I really don't need. Since Wish backdrops come with no care instruction I just had to take my chances. I also know how they are printed with large printers so getting the face wet could make the ink come off/heating it. Why I am doing it on the back side and not on the actual pattern itself.
