I actually just did an aeropress cupping side by side side. We put up European Coffee Trips 18 gram method against James hoffmans 11 gram fine grind against your 16 gram medium grind method… guess which one one- THIS ONE , the 16 gram medium 30 gram bloom and 2 minute steep not only maintained our notes from a freshly roasted bean from Alana micro roaster out of SoCal, but as it cooled it didn’t over extract too much sweetness and it maintains the tasting notes from the actual bean. Well done

What does paper filter setting on Niche mean? (Not everyone has a Niche.)

Can anyone explain to me the logic behind pushing the air out? If you were using the aeropress as designed (not inverted) would there not be an air gap at the top once you press the plunger in? I can't figure out why almost everyone does this with the inverted method, just seems like an unnecessary opportunity to make a mess.
@msgesus4518

For longer immersion time to get a more concentrated brew. If you don't invert the coffee just comes out too quickly once you add water more like a pour over.This is more like a french press but with better filtration.

What's the reason for blooming, then filling up the rest of the way?
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters 8 месяцев назад
Blooming helps to remove the gases and give an even saturation to all grinds giving a better extraction. Cheers luke

The inverted method is a violently messy affair, which ends in a perfect disaster half of the times, not counting the fact that screwing back the filter on an already super hot-water filled chamber is not as nice and easy at it appears here. A much better approach is to take advantage of old good classical Physics. Basically you keep the standard approach. After you pour the water you will see that it starts leaking..but if you put back the plunger on top, inserting it slightly, then the internal difference in pressure will keep all the liquid in place and stop the leaking completeley. Then you count 2 minutes, press down as usual and you are done..without accidents, burn fingers and spilt coffee nightmares

Thanks for your feedback, that’s a great tip for the original method. We have never had issues with the inverted method, yes if you spill grinds over the top where the cap locks in it’s can be difficult, the funnel is the best way to get the grinds in if you can’t put them in cleanly. Cheers luke

Never understood why anyone would needlessly complicate the normal Aeropress method by inverting the device. Do you drive your car wheels up and roof down? Sheesh.
