Some of my favorite quotes from this video: "Hit it with water" "Dive into a gas station" "Pop out the coffee grounds" "Preheat the vessle" "Stir the slurry" "Yield us about 6 to 8 oz of coffee" "Slow and steady some people say" "Doin a trip" "The brew is over" Outstanding video I must say

Just ignore the 10 seconds thing and the 1 minute 50 too. you can use preground. in my experience grinds that are fine work well too you don't need rough one. ignore the entire 17 grams thing. 1 spoon is all you need, anywhere from 15- 25 will work fine and some friends prefer two scoops per cup. Directions for those that care. You're welcome. 1. Heat water (205 degrees F) 2. Measure Coffee (17 grams or 1 Aeropress Scoop slightly above the lip of the spoon) 3. Grind coffee to medium/fine grind 4. Add paper filter. "Preheat/pre-wet" filter and mug by rinsing it with water. (Discard water) 5. Prepare to brew: Insert filter and place Aeropress on top of mug. Insert ground coffee 6. Start timer. 7. Fill with water to #4 (about 220 grams of water) within 10 seconds. Stir slurry. 8. Place plunger in at an angle, pull up slightly to create pressure seal. 9. At 1:15, stir slurry one final time. 10. Plunge coffee slow and steady. Once you hear the "hiss" the brew is over. Total time should take 1:45 - 1:55 time.

I´ve been using the aeropress to make coffee in my dorm for a couple months now. It´s good because the aeropress itself is very easy to store, so I don´t have to use up counter space by having a coffee pot and a small kettle for tea- I´m good with just a kettle. The way I typically brew is much simpler (scoop of coffee + water up to the second line, stir for 10 seconds, plunge and add milk) but I´m excited to experiment a little with this method.

„220g of water“ Let me calculate for you how much this is in a volume measurement. Ah right, its 220ml.
@SwirlOfColors
@SwirlOfColors 4 года назад
Water's density is not constant across the temperature range (it expands as the temperature rises), and at 100 °C it's 0.95835 g/ml, so (assuming it's still 100 °C when it goes into container) it would be: 220 [g] / 0.95835 [g/ml]= 230 [ml] (rounded up).
@desertrainfrog1691
@desertrainfrog1691 4 года назад
@@SwirlOfColors It also expands as it freezes, thus why ice floats. (Expands at freezing compared to say 8 degrees Celsius) So it's not totally accurate to say "it expands as it's temperature rises" But for all intents and purposes when it comes to coffee, you can leave the fancy science out of it I guess. I don't get people who weigh coffee out.
@SwirlOfColors
@SwirlOfColors 4 года назад
@@desertrainfrog1691 I know that, it starts to expand even as liquid below 4 ℃ (assuming normal pressure, or even more correctly pressure range that this statement holds true, lol), that's beside the point in the original context (calculating volume of hot water water of given weight).

I really like this video. I've watched a ton of AeroPress coffee making videos to fine tune my brewing and somehow this video just seemed satisfying to watch. Maybe its the scenery, maybe its the delivery, I can't explain it. I just liked it. Keep up the good work.

To all the haters saying this is complicated... he is demonstrating ONE method, not the ONLY method to do aeropress. If you’ve got the time and materials by all means do it this way. The inverted method is another way. Whatever your heart desires.

yeh, as soon as I add the hot water it almost runs immediately thru the filter, so i've been using 3 filters to slow the water from escape before I get a chance to stir it.

@matt27design

If you like the flavour you get from that, great. It's not really the right way to use it though, by adding more filter paper you'll be losing a lot of the coffee's body. And Joe, lots of people do, it's called the "upside down method". The technique is often used at the aeropress competitions.
@DanStates

I don't have one of these, so I'm guessing; that said your grind might not be fine enough if the water runs through the grinds too easily without any pressure.

Intriguing in a negative sort of way that so many comments are critical of how elaborate and multi-stepped this is. Well, slow down and learn-your next tweet will wait. After doing this a few times it's an automatic, just like learning to use the toilet. Maybe, come to think of it, some of the commentators here never took the time to master that either.
@ChucksSEADnDEAD

+Norman Dale it's a hand press for coffee. With the number of steps and time taken I am sure you could just get a normal French press about that size so you could take it into "the wild". Instead of "preheating the mug" just take that extra water to wash afterwards. Who the hell measures water in grams? Do not make the overused "hurr durr millennial need to tweet" joke when the dude in this video is more of a millennial stereotype than you will ever see in your life. This isn't about attention span, if anything the one minute between leaving the plunger and stirring a second time would give plenty of time to tweet, that is if you have service in "the wild". Hell, one could just take a moka pot in the camping pack, it's not gonna break one's back.
@Newspeak.
@Newspeak. 5 лет назад
Titanium Rain there are no more steps to this then there are to a French press, you don’t need to worry about preheating anything. Just use the scoop and level it off, grind, add hot water to the “4” position wait like a min and slowly plunge. This is higher pressure then a French press and makes a cleaner better tasting cup of coffee albeit only one cup at a time. It’s only as complex as you want to make it.

@@Newspeak. "Just use the scoop and level it off, grind, add hot water to the “4” position wait like a min and slowly plunge." - exactly. The video is too pretentious and does not show the abilities of the product.

Who on Earth measures water in grams?
@josephmac4654
@josephmac4654 8 лет назад
Water has a density of 1g/mL, therefore 16g of water = 16mL of water.
@mattk6165
@mattk6165 8 лет назад
They should just say mLs though, because you aren't putting it on a scale when you pour. Plus the density is not quite 1 at 200F, it is a little less. I think it is very hipster to say everything is measured in grams. How many grams of minimum air headspace should there be between the plunger and the the water? LOL
@TeamSnowball1
@TeamSnowball1 7 лет назад
+Matt K a lot of the time they do use scales when they pour. Interestingly when talking about coffee I only really hear people talk about water in grams. Given that it's about 1 g/mL it doesn't really bother me.

I didn't know much about the metric system before I got into coffee. I've always measured water in grams because that is the value that the Pearl gives me when I pour water into the clever. I am just now finding out that 1 gram is roughly 1 ml. Very cool!
