I'm so glad I no longer have to build on a tight budget anymore. I remember in college I had a "gaming" computer I had held together with electrical tape and could only turn it on by pressing a screwdriver up against the prongs on the motherboard. lol Good times. In 2012 I built my first higher end gaming pc with a couple SLI 660ti's. It lasted me about 6 years which isn't bad. I got my money's worth. In December I decided to go all out for the 1080ti before the price got insane, the 8700k, 1tb 970 EVO and a 34" LG 34UC89G-B. Maybe this one will last me another 6 years. I've been very pleased with it.

If you are on a tight budget you better look for used parts on ebay, but you gotta have some time. I just finished building a PC for 160$ which is going to be my xmas present for my son. I had to spent a LOT of time on ebay though, as i had to find and buy two used pcs, take out the parts i wanted, build a pc from the other parts, buy a cheap cpu to replace the i5 4570 that came with one of the pcs, then sell the pc and the 4570. The new PC sports an i5 4690k, 16gb DDR3, a (not so good but not so bad) Gigabyte GA-B85M-D2V Mainboard, 240gb Samsung EVO SSD, 500gb hdd, a nice case, and a 600W power supply. I added a Sapphire r9 270x Dual-X which I still had. I'm pretty sure it would beat the build from above in most benchmarks. Of course you have to consider you won't get warranty on used parts and should stay away from buying any hardware from a seller who claims he "cannot test it".

About to do my first Mini-ITX build since 2003 next week and it will be inside none other than the Core V1 Snow. For good or bad I'll have to fit in a 24cm graphics card because the last APU I tried had its performance drop to 63% of its nominal in just 30 months and I am not willing to give AMD another chance in that department. It's throttling in browsers, it's throttling in MS Solitaire (yep, not kidding), it's a complete nightmare :@ Anyway... Thank you Paul and crew for making this veritable walkthrough for me! The GPUs at frys weren’t sold out. They have had issues with people buying them in bulk for mining set ups. They keep them in the back now and only sell 2 at a time. I had to talk to an associate in order to get a gtx 1080 a month ago and that’s what I was told.
@GotischerFFx

Still doesn't make sense to me. If there is a new customer base, especially if you know why, you raise inventory accordingly. Hiding product will greatly reduce sales from both sets of customers.

This guy CANT PLAY MODERN GAMES, only crappy app type games: FAIL: You shouldn't call this a gaming computer because it has an APU. A real gaming computer MUST HAVE a dedicated card! A cheap RX550 card (Under $100) would blow this computer out of the water and still keep your build under $500.. I built a REAL GAMING COMPUTER for under $500 with the following items: AMD - Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor , G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (This guy claims this RAM is well over $100?? I paid well under), Inland - Professional 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($21.99) , Hitachi - Deskstar 7K2000 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (I could have paid less if I bought 1TB), Gigabyte - B450 AORUS PRO WIFI (rev. 1.0) ATX AM4 Motherboard (I could have paid less but I wanted built in wifi), PowerColor - Radeon RX 550 - 640 2 GB Video Card (I paid $89 on ebay-NEW), DIYPC - Solo-T1-BK ATX Mid Tower Case ($30 new egg), Corsair - CX (2017) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (I could have paid less but it came out to $30 after rebate), LG - UH12NS40 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer (I could have paid less but I wanted bluray and it was less than $50, this guy has no optical?!?) -- My total was around $480 after tax!!!!!!!!! Maybe i'll start making youtube videos - lol

Instead of splurging on a SSD and 16 GB system memory, he could have gone with a high performance hard drive and 8 GB memory. The money saved would be plenty for a proper graphics card. The results would have been better. (Even in 2018, very few games actually require more than 8GB system memory.)

I built this machine for the Mrs. as my first build. The only significant difference, I added a mechanical HD for back-up. She's happy as a clam. It works very well and much faster than the old iMac she was using. The only problem, I must not have connected the HD led correctly since the SSD activity does not light. Hats off to you for this, it came in under budget and it was a great experience for a first timer. Thanks.

This is the video that made me bite the bullet and do my first build ever. I had no building experience, I didn't know what all the components of a computer did, or what their names were, but this video and many others helped along the way. I ended up purchasing that same thermaltake core v1 case and did an amd build, I got lucky on the first try and it fired right up. As i continued to watch more pc building videos, i learned more about overclocking, AIO, watercooling, custom water cooling, etc, and what started out as a 500 budget build for light gaming and school work has turned into a overkill machine, at least for what I need it for. In it's currant state, the cost is at about 1300-1500 dollars. @mathewbilodeau
@mathewbilodeau 6 лет назад
Sheena1234ization dont know what case and psu AND storage youre getting for just $90 but i certaintly dont want it. 1tb hard drive is 50 alone, and since most will want an ssd of at least 120 gb, add another 45ish (good 120gb ssds used to be cheap) or 70ish for a 240. A minimum of like $35 for the psu and most should probably spend at least 40-50 on a case

An itx motherboard means you can buy any case you want.Paul,you kind of made it sound like you had to buy an itx case,which of course isn't true,they fit in practically any size case.Also if you had turned that cooler one more time the fan cable would have been wrapped nicely around the cooler with no extra cable sticking out.The thing to do is wrap it around the cooler before hand and then mount it according to where the fan/power wire fits nicely without it having a lot of extra flopping round.

It's a pretty sad time to build a 'gaming PC' these days when you can't fit an actual GPU into a $500 budget :/ You can thank grossly inflated DDR4 and GPU prices for that. The 2200G is a compromise on that, but its a big compromise, especially if you intend to do any serious 1080P gaming. To be honest this machine isn't really up to the task of 1080P gaming with AAA titles (unless sub 60fps @ minimum settings is your thing) it's more of an eSports gaming machine. This is the reality with APU gaming. You can only get so much performance while being severely bandwith restricted due to using system RAM as VRAM. To get a decent 1080P experience with the latest games, you do need a an RX560 or GTX 1050 at a minimum, which are about 3 times as powerful as a 2200G for gaming, as you can see here: www.techarp.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-5-2400g-apu-review/4/

I will never recommend a mini or micro ATX board or case for a computer. Even if you are using a smaller board you should use a fullsized case so that you can put another board in it later. I've used the same computer case for my last three systems. A computer case is on the same level as a keyboard, mouse, or monitor/s. Case is reusable and not integral to the performance, and will never be obsolete so long as the industry does not change standards.

Unfortunately mining specific cards won't be purchased by miners in the same way because they want to burn the GPU to ash and then resell it to re-cooperate some of the investment costs a mining card couldn't b resold as easily so they won't bother with them. And when, not if, crypto currencies get regulated with taxes and such and the bottom drops out the best thing we gamers can do is to leave all those greedy selfish bastards holding every single card they bought by only buying new and buy nothing used cause you can't trust any of them to not be mined on.

A tip to help preserve the clarity of your plexi windows... Use painter's tape around the window before you remove the protective plastic, then remove the protector and give the window a few light coats of crylon clear spray paint for plastics or whatever brand you like; as long as it's made to adhere to plastics. Make sure you give it enough coats to completely cover the plexi to prolong it's clarity and don't put it on too heavy or you'll get runs. When it's mostly dry, remove the painter's tape and you'll have a nearly perfect clear window that's more resilient to scratches and can be polished with a headlight polishing kit when it does get scratched.

I used the same case and I have the Core V1 case in my TV cabinet. I just removed a couple shelves and set it in there. My TV cabinet is only about 13.75 inches deep so the case fits in there because it is about 12 inches deep. I recently looked at some console cases and they are mostly too large. I also put a Geforce 1050 ti 4 GB DDR5 video card which is a short card with a single 90 mm fan and requires no extra power connections. It cost me $150. They make a 2 GB version but some gamers say that version often uses all the on-board memory and goes to system ram. However, I use my video card mainly for HDMI 2.0 HTPC type of use with my new Samsung 4k UHD NU8000 55 inch HDTV. This is a smart TV and has WIFI , But I like using the computer as an interface. Purchased TV & TV stand at Best Buy.

Have a question I am getting a warning on part picker and it is the same for all of the mini ITX motherboards and is the same if I pick the Rizen 3 or the Rizen 5 both with the integrated graphics. The warning is "Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Raven Ridge CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." was this a problem with your build? if so is there a workaround short of having an older CPU laying around which I don't? Lastly, would the Rizen 5 provide and boost to performance and or would it give a better upgrade path then the Rizen 3 the cost for the 5 is not so much more? And now for the lastly last if you upgrade to a video card later do you have to disable onboard graphics or is that automatic when you add the card? Thanks for the greta videos.

Chances are Paul didn't have the Bios revision issue since this B350 mobo was provided to him by AMD
@paulshardware
@paulshardware 6 лет назад
You'll need an AM4 Motherboard that's "Raven Ridge ready", basically one that ships with an updated BIOS for 2200G/2400G support. If your Mobo isn't updated, you have options to update it like taking it to a PC shop or even having AMD "lend" you a 2017 Ryzen CPU that you can install to update the BIOS (and then return). I'll go over some more advice for this & options in the follow-up video, thanks for the comment!

I’ve never understood why motherboard manufacturers haven’t figured a better way for the front panel connectors in 2019. They are so frustrating to put in and then the right way since they typically fit the wrong way. . The silly molex connectors are disappearing gradually and replaced by nicer Sata connectors and other power connectors that only fit one way.

Clearly he said the Ryzen APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) or what you probably refer as the CPU has ONBOARD Vega graphics which Paul clearly said, meaning it's the graphics WITH the APU. A very thoughtful thing AMD did for us budget folks so we don't need a GPU to work with and currently at 2018 is QUITE expensive. Maybe clear out your ears and have some attention span for once and you'll probably save some bucks and learn something. The Windows bit is all up to you, some people can get a free copy into a USB from going to a internet cafe and install it into your new PC or just pay for a few bucks more for a real one on a USB. It's not hard to be flexible you know? Someone built 80-90% of the puzzle for you and all you gotta do is just fill in the other pieces in yourself, no biggie. *slaps lightly on your face* Alright big boy?

What he avoided to show you and didn't tell you about is that the cooler for the CPU connects and pushes the memory card close to him. That's why he doesn't show you installing them and when he does show them he lowers the camera angle so you can't see it. That's a common issue with mini motherboards, i personally would suggest you to go for an ATX so you can have more options if you decide to upgrade.

I want to build a gaming PC but I know absolutely nothing about PCs. I have put together a system and I was wondering if there was anything more or less that I would need in order to pretty much only run GTA V. My setup is listed below (I know that I have not included a keyboard and mouse) CPU: Intel - Celeron G3930 2.9GHz Dual-Core Processor CPU Cooler: ARCTIC - Alpine 11 GT Rev 2 28.6 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler Motherboard: MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: Team - Elite Plus 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage: Seagate - SV35.5 500GB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: MSI - GeForce GT 710 1GB Video Card Case: Deepcool - TESSERACT SW ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair - CXM (2015) 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Asus - DRW-24D3ST DVD/CD Writer Wired Network Adapter (I currently don’t know whether I will have access to Ethernet or not): TP-Link - TG-3468 PCI-Express x1 10/100/1000 Mbps Network Adapter Case Fan: Deepcool - XFAN 80 21.8 CFM 80mm Fan Monitor: AOC - E970SWN 18.5" 1366x768 60Hz Monitor

I have a Core V1 and they are actually pretty great and very cheap, you can mount the motherboard two ways and but a full size graphics card in it excluding 3 fan cards!

Those Ryzen APU's really are awesome. Better CPU and GPU than in the xbox one. For £90 you can get 60fps in GTA V as opposed to £200 in the Xbox one with locked 30fps.

we built a similar PC last week for the Wife's upgrade, but we used the Ryzen 2600 / ASUS PRIME-B350-PLUS / Corsair Vengeance 2666 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, we went with a Thermal-take Vesa case instead of the cube was only $4 more and using a corsair PSU I'm not a huge fan of cooler masters PSU's ,all finished off with a MSI 1050TI Gaming-x edition 4gb GPU. came in under $650 and the unit is excellent bang for buck the 2600 & high end 1050 TI card combo is really punchy all the way up to 1080p was hard to notice much difference compared my Sapphire Nitro 580 Radeon OC limited edition 8gb edition & 7600k Build,but once over 1440p thats where it started to loose a bit of FPS where as the Radeon / 7600k will punch out 60+ FPS on 4k all day but having said that my PC cost 3x more so yeah gaming bang for buck is out there to be had for sure.

8gb just doesn't cut it anymore. Some games use more than 8gb of memory, beyond what is needed to run your OS (Most usually Windows). A good video for building a basic PC. You could play games on this build, but 240Gb of drives would only allow you to have roughly 10-12 of the newest games. You could go back and play older games or smaller games, but otherwise you are going to be installing and uninstalling games constantly.

I built a $500 one in 2017 (prices outside the US) , but this one looks much better. I would still use a full size tower though and a graphics card.
