I actually just added a 1050TI to my 2400G HTPC build. I would argue the CPU upgrade short of a content creation use case is not needed and in that case I would spend the money on at least a 1060. I recently saw a 6GB 1060 on Newegg for $299 which I think is a great price for that GPU. I paid $276 @ Launch in 2016.

The 3GB EVGA 1060 is for sale right now for $199 at Jet and Walmart of all places. Model 03G-P4-6160-KR. Not sure if that's one of the "branded-as-a-1060-but-really-isn't" units that were in the news recently.

Awesome guide. Built a very similar machine with the 2200G, MSI B350 Tomahawk Plus, and 16GB of Ripjaws V C14, then upgraded graphics to an ASUS 1050 TI Cerberus. Planning to install Ryzen 2600X when cash permits. Kicks butt now. Can't wait to see how it does with the 2600X.

Tip for those of you planning to upgrade.....KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL DOCUMENTATION AND BOXES!!! It makes shipping and selling so much easier. No having to find bubble wrap and anti-static bags from somewhere to sell items then. I've spent the last 2 months upgrading from an FX-6300 to a 8350, then to a Ryzen 5 1600, along with 3000MHz 16GB corsair kit, and upgraded from a GTX 960 4GB to a 970, managed to flip the 970 a day before my new graphics card turned up.....Got myself a fractal design define R5 as well, upgrading from a zalman z11 midi tower...which just sucks for airflow, cable management & adding new fans in. I knew the good credit rating would pay off at some point....got myself a 1080ti...went from low-mid tier gaming system based on Vishera/Bulldozer to the other extreme...Least I won't need to upgrade for a while now. I kept all my boxes and sold my old hardware too. I made about $1300 (before fees on ebay and paypal, you'll pay about 10% on ebay and 3.4% on paypal, including on the shipping costs you add) from old hardware and other stuff I wanted to sell (few old games, stuff i've had for years and never used etc). Use your case box to store all your other boxes and packaging in, helps keep clutter to a minimum....and gives you a table to use for your bedroom workshop/office.

Unfortunately I'm late so you probably wont see this but here is a trick if you would like to use it... In Windows 10 (maybe earlier editions too) I can restart my computer into uefi/bios with a small batch file (if I wanted to make a shortcut for the command) or type a small command in the command prompt. The command needed is "shutdown /r /fw /t 0" without the quotes. Either type that into a command prompt or make a file called something like RebootToUEFI.bat and when run it will popup a Window asking you if you want to shutdown. If you say yes it will reboot directly into your UEFI. No need to tap the keyboard. **note** I have Ryzen and my motherboard "resets" the settings on power failures or "shutoff" (full shutdown) of the computer and for some reason .. haven't looked into it yet... I have to go into the uefi and load my saved backup of my OC for it to work or it will end up using some default...if it goes through this "reset" it seems to restart a couple of times before booting and that screws up the above command but this doesn't happen for me on restart though so this trick above works. If you do run into issues using the command .. it may be something weird like my MB is doing.. One day I'll contact them and see why lol As an explanation of the above command .. this is how it breaks down: shutdown /r /fw /t 0 /r Full shutdown and restart the computer. /fw Combine with a shutdown option to cause the next boot to go to the firmware user interface. /t xxx Set the time-out period before shutdown to xxx seconds. The valid range is 0-315360000 (10 years), with a default of 30. If the timeout period is greater than 0, the /f parameter is implied. (doesn't apply in the above example) /f Force running applications to close without forewarning users. The /f parameter is implied when a value greater than 0 is Hope you see this Paul .. if not .. hope some others will find the information useful. I have a keyboard with extra macro keys so I have one mapped so I have a key to reboot to UEFI :)

Hey Paul and everyone. Just a bit of info for anyone in here that needs it. Ryzen been a fun ride. But it being a new architecture means lots of firmware updates. So I have gotten to know the Gigabyte X370 you guys gave me very well. That being said. It is always good practice to turn off XMP and load optimized defaults. But just wanted to share if you are using a AM4 Gigabyte board. It does not seem necessary. If you update the firmware or (BIOS) both the same thing. Gigabyte resets everything after the update. I even have to reset my fan curves. Anyway just wanted to share that extra bit of wisdom and happy building.
@Cooe.
@Cooe. 6 лет назад
"load optimized defaults". Lol no, NO, NO, now don't be doing THAT! Hahaha. Assuming this is one of the GB X370 boards actually worth buying / using (aka the Gaming 5 & K7 flagships whose BIOS' I happen to be familiar with, which like the board itself, are near 100% identical. As in nothing aside from the color scheme, and the K7's BCLK generator for BCLK overclocking & it's associated BIOS options [useless for most people]), that setting will simply run the DDR4 at 2133MHz with the mediocre auto-timings. I've been running the Gaming 5 since the original Ryzen launch last March, and all you wanna do to best set up any kit of memory is (process tested with multiple kits of various sizes, speeds, and XMP versions) = #1. - Enable the XMP Profile (this is only temporary, and just to get all the XMP profile's timings & sub-timings to show up as the "default timings list" on the right side of the memory timings page instead of whatever the kit's built in default timings at the base 2133MHz are. Then #2. - Manually select the clock-speed multiplier to the rated speed (memory menu), and DIMM voltage (voltages menu) to the rated 1.35V (if already on right clock multiplier BC XMP, simply turn it down a notch, and then back up to where it was). Setting these manually will disable XMP (and reset all the timings back to "AUTO"), but WITHOUT reverting the list of the DIMM's programmed SPD timings on the Advanced Memory page, from the XMP list that we want/need, back to it's programmed set of timings for running at the stock 2133MHz (which are useless to us). Considering how much a PAIN figuring out all of the XMP profiles' billion little timings can be without this trick (aka hoping you can get into Windows running XMP long enough to open "Ryzen Timing Checker" & snap a pic; which I've actually done b4 I figured out the above), the fact that works out like that is a GODSEND. And finally, and by FAR the most important step, #3. - Go to the Advanced Memory settings BIOS page, and proceed to replace the newly reset to "AUTO" timing settings with the long list of the XMP profile's timings on the right (but first verify that timing list actually IS the XMP's and not for 2133MHz or whatever. Aka make sure the 6ish primary timings match those on the DIMM stickers/the kit's box before you go and type that entire list in). Then simply do this for every single timing & sub-timing that has a number on that list, until the only "AUTO"s left, are those few which their are no listed XMP timings for. This method allows you to quickly and easily plug the exact settings of any XMP profile on any DDR4 kit down to the nitty gritty sub-timings into your BIOS 100% manually (which often has a huge effect on stability & memory performance/compatibility vs running the actual XMP profile, despite their settings being identical). Honestly, with how easy that makes typing an XMP profiles settings in manually for any kit, I can't see why anyone would ever choose to actually use the XMP profile itself instead.

ACK! PAUL! Most of the target audience won't care but "dual rank" does not describe the location of the DRAM on the DIMM, but rather how the DRAM is mapped electronically. Different ranks are typically used to add more memory density on a single DIMM with more DRAM chips. This can also have some impact on performance, but rank compatibility is the primary concern since the memory controller is only built to address certain ranks on certain channels.

great video. i have the white version of this case and 2200g. i was thinking of going with the 2600x also and shuffling the apu over to another build when i have $$ for a 400 series. very interested in your benchmarks when you can do them on the 2600x on a b350 board. im using a mini itx fatal1ty ac b350 board. i kept my gt 730 2gb video card in there because i kept getting video tdp failure when i tried to OC the gpu part of the chip. it frustrated me so i dropped the gt 730 back in and have no issues now. this is a great video for the average person just wanting to build a good system on a budget. i love how little space the case takes up and how well the system games for now. i also tried Ryzen Master but got confused with that. i guess i need a tutorial on how to OC the 2200g, or at least the gpu part of the chip. i keep looking for a good Ryzen Master tutorial. i also have a Ryzen 5 1600x. my memory on both is Corsair lpx 3000. 2 4gb sticks on the 2200g and 2 8gb sticks on the 1600x. i wish memory prices would come down. my 1600x is currently running my recycled xfx r7 260x 2gb video card. hopefully one day soon i can get one of the high end nvidia cards. it’s discouraging to be building on a budget

Will this build be overkill or just in the sweet spot for a dedicated streaming pc as i intend to stream console games with my elgato hd60. My upload speed is up to 30Mbps. I might also upgrade the CPU here to a 2700. What other GPUs are a good recommendation?

If you plan on having a dedicated GPU in your system, is there any reason to get a CPU with integrated graphics. Will it negatively impact the performance of the CPU processes? Is it simply a part added on to pad the cost? Or is it actually useful to have in some circumstances, even with a dedicated GPU?

I know it's not your fault but I updated the bios on my msi z370 gaming plus cfx atx mother board with a i5 8400 8th gen cpu and after words Windows would not boot it gave me a blue screen saying i needed to restart Windows, recovery dint work either I just had to end up installing Windows 10 again. What could of happened? I did not reset defaults on my board before updating my bois and I did not know how to clear cmos

hey paul, love your videos. i have a question. why on this ram support lists (not just for gigavyte mobo) is no crucial memory beyond 2400mhz on it? i have a ballistix elite on my ryzen system working at 3200mhz no problem.

I have an MSI B350 Tomahawk Plus motherboard, and was thinking about getting the 2600X CPU. Will I need one of the 1st gen ryzen chips to flash the bios? Or will it work out of the box?

Which motherboard would you recommend for a dual GPU setup? I got a great deal on two 970s and never had two GPUs before.

I'm looking at upgrading my fm2+system to a Ryzen 5 1600 atm. Would it be worth going for the 2600, or would the 1600 be a better option due to the great prices currently available?

Gonna build this exact setup for my home. Do you think it’s too much if it’s not primarily for gaming?
