Use a A NMEA 2000® Backbone Kit on your boat to build a basic backbone to join two NMEA 2000® compatible electronic devices together so they can share information, for example, a Chartplotter and an AIS transponder.
The kit can be extended to include other compatible marine electronics, with minimal set up required, as the backbone cable will carry digital information throughout the system. Using the NMEA 2000® backbone system eliminates the need for big bundles of heavy wires and cables onboard your boat and makes installation simpler.
Navico NMEA 2000® Backbone Kit includes
3x Micro-C T-connectors
1x NMEA 2000® power cable
1x set of 1 male and 1 female NMEA 2000® terminators
1x 4.55m (15ft) NMEA 2000® cable for backbone extension or drop cable to connect an additional network device*
* Please note that you may need an additional NMEA 2000 drop cable if it is not included with the device to be connected."

So you need to connect each device to power and the nmea to power ? The nmea won’t power the devices correct ? Thanks

Hi Jared, thank you for your question. The NMEA 2000 network is a low current network and will not power anything that draws over 1A. So chartplotters, AIS transponders, VHF radios etc need their own connection to the 12v supply. Items such as sensors and instruments can be powered from the NMEA 2000 network.
