Hi Kman, hi guys. About 3 weeks ago I finished to different capacitor charger like Kman explained. They work well and everything is well. Thanks Kman. Now, as I live almost Off Grid I was thinking to build a bigger charger that i could hook on my 3250 Generac Generator to charge my battery bank. This time it should be a 240 vac system. I know that with a 240 vac setup the amps double. I built the whole thing with four 80uF caps and three different switches, two 80uF caps together then plus one 80uF and plus one 80uF. With that I could choose between different loads. I tested the system on my main 220 vac and it worked well. The two 80uF caps together were charging with about 13 amps to my large 25 vdc battery bank, all together with nice 26 amps. It was rocking. So now I was good to go to hook it on my Generator. And puff, the fuse on my Generator blow out. I repeated and noticed that instead of only 13 amps for two working caps, it was running for about 1 second at about 26 amps. I was quite surprised and cannot wrap my mind around why suddenly my caps put the double of their rated amps out. 80uF normally put about 3 amps on 120 vac, on 220 van they put about 6 amps, but on my Generator they put even 13 amps on 240 vac. Could it be because of the square wave form or what. I do not know what is wrong. So, if you guys or Kman itself could find some time to explain, it would be very much appreciated.

How we know that the battery is fully charged? i am asking because in a 70Ah car battery i used, i was checking every 2 hours with a multimeter the volts. It started charging at 46 volts, dropped to 14,5 after many hours, and when i reconnected it to the charger again after 1 day of relaxing, it was charging with 15.7 volts and was going up to 16.5 volts . The battery has a charge of ~13.1 volts when sitting now. Is it ready to be used or it needs more??

could you use a dual run capacitor and a switch to make a fast charge/slow charge set up in the same enclosure?

Hi. Do you know why the black lead is connected in the 10ADC jack instead of -COM? I see that it's measuring DC voltage and I expected it were in the -COM jack.

hi Kman, love the videos. Quick question, what would you change to make it just a de-sulfator, less charger. thanks.
@KmanAuto

smaller capacitor. it will charge the battery slower, allowing it to pulse the battery for a longer period of time to desulfate.

@KmanAuto 10 лет назад
That means that is a dual cap. Or in other words, their are 2 capacitors in the single can. It has a 60mF and a 5 mF. You could use some sort of 3 way light switch to switch between those two sizes. 60 for charging, then 5 for maintaining or long term desulfation.

To extend the life of the Bridge and the Capacitor, you need to add a surge resistor between the positive of the bridge rectifier and the positive of the capacitor. Any where between a 1-5 ohm wirewound power resistor should work. During the first half cycle of the AC, there is almost '0' ohms on the capacitor which could damage both the cap and the bridge. A fuse is essential especially if you turn it on and walk away. A slo-blow of about 2-3 times of the normal input current.

If you were running this same charger setup on 240v and you touched the aligator clips with your hands then wouldn't you just be shocking yourself with around 240-270v dc? That sounds a little dangerous to me, so how do you offer / provide protection to make the charger a little safer when used on 240v ac thanks. I'm still a little lost as to how the charger can automatically reduce the voltage down enough for a 6v or 12v battery also without damaging the battery?
@grassroot011
@grassroot011 9 лет назад
How can you attach the rectified voltage of around 125 V DC to a 12 V battery? For that's what this will supply at the Plus and Minus terminals.
@KmanAuto
@KmanAuto 9 лет назад
Voltage will automatically self adjust on the DC end to match just what is enough that is needed to enable current to flow. Plugged into a 120v AC outlet, this charger can charge a battery or battery bank from 0 to 140v, as AC once Rectified to DC is about 170v, given a bit of leeway room for current flow, I found 140v to be the top end of the spectrum.

Anthony Alleyne Basically, you have 3 connections. One is the "input" and the other two are "outputs" so to say. When you go from the input to one output, it will be 60mF, if you go from input to the other output, it will be 5mF. They are commonly used in Air Conditioners. Instead of having two separate caps, just one with "two" built inside. Think of it like a dual core processor with one core at 60mhz and the other at 5mhz :) Saves space inside the AC Condenser.

@KmanAuto
@KmanAuto 10 лет назад
That would depend, what does the label say? Most caps that have 3 connections, are like that because their are actually 2 caps in one. One is usually larger, one smaller. I dislike these for HVAC equipment, but for one of these chargers, it works rather nice, as you can have a "high" and a "low" setting.

Hello bro this is Ratheesh and I have a doubt ,, that how can I chose the capacitor for the various amps battery ,, can u suggest me for this or send me the details for it
@KmanAuto
@KmanAuto 4 года назад
Ratheesh Ramakrishnan That Would be determined by how quickly do you want the battery charged. in general, for recharging a car battery or both battery, 80 µF is a good number. If you want a slower charge but more desulfation, go with a 20 or a 40. Motorcycles use a 10 or lower. Electric cars, 72 V battery pack are usually use four or eight 80 µF capacitor

@KmanAuto
@KmanAuto 4 года назад
@@raatheesh 20 or a 40. I cannot give charging times. Charging times are determined by how dead the battery is, and it's condition. The more sulfated the longer it will take. Pair the Desulfation Charger with Epsom Salt (See my video series on that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vqfaziZE1XM.html ) for longer battery life and faster overall charging.
