Dope video bro but I would suggest better lighting with this video as it’s difficult to see the parts & what hole the screws go into. Maybe even showing a closeup after each section so we could see where it went. Just my opinion, keep up the 🔥 content

Nice video, but it’s very hard to see what you are doing. Mounting black accessories to an all black camera with a very dark background.

It's fairly straight forward. Nothing too complicated. But next time I do a video like this I'll add b roll showing the process better

Nice looking video. Anyway, I am just experiencing the opposite direction with my Lumix S1H: keep the single-operator rig as small and lightweight as possible. In the meantime, I go with only the cage, a sidegrip, a to-handle, a nice Sennheiser stereo microphone - no monitor, no rails, etc. There is always a Manfrotto 601 plate under the cage allowing me to mount the lean rig within seconds onto all of my fluid heads, and the shoulder rig, too. For walking-outdoors shootings I carry with me the foot and the fluid head from iFootage, leaving the long monopod at home. Everything can be slung around my neck (sidewards) with a tactical sling - just perfect to get anywhere with this setup, Oh, I forgot: I love my Panasonic lens 16-24mm, f4 - its super sharp and so light weight, and has AF.

Sounds great! Yeah this rig is not meant for solo operating environments. There will be a crew of about 20 of us. I don't think I'd build the camera out like this for a solo gig

There is actually a rig called the Cineback made by Caleb from DSLR Video Shooter that looks very similar. It basically give you top and bottom plate with build in Vmount and Dtap spliter. He sells it on his website for like 300 bucks or something. Currently is only available for the FX3 and FX30 but he said he will be doing for other cameras such as Lumix, Fuji etc.

I'll have to check it out. FX30 and FX3 definitely a better body for rigging

Watching rig videos makes me want to shoot barebones. As a solo operator-I am usually so busy with lighting, client management, sound and direction that spending time building/ managing a rig just wouldn’t be possible. Can see this working where you are only shooting as part of a team
@DustinArmstrongPro
@DustinArmstrongPro 8 месяцев назад
I typically only shoot with the smallrig cage and the essentials when I'm solo. Even though it looks impressive to the client it's usually too much. This is definitely more of a rig for a team production.

Do you trust that nato monitor mount used as a top handle connection? I would not... I've seen bad reviews about it and I would feel uneasy to sustain all of my rig on it :\
@DustinArmstrongPro
@DustinArmstrongPro 8 месяцев назад
I don't see why not. I've used it all day for days at a time on a couple shoots with just the kondor blue top handle (not the entire rig) and haven't had any issues.

Optimal assembly, probably you can also add a microphone and everything will be OK

yes- I think rigs make sense for productions on aset with a crew. I am going to bet that this is rare for most S5 series shooters (I have sho as par tof a crew - but most of the time I am solo) ... which in turn makes many rig set ups redundant for manypeople. Don't get me wrong- I love my camera rigged up but every time there is a screw on a rig then there is one more thing to come loose at a critical moment. Sets are more dynamic than many people realise - shoot this now!, Grab that! Get a gimbal shot of this.. get the tele lens on that action - ok now we need a wide angle of the warehouse now get the drone up! Mic up these people so we can have a chat while we have them! There is the CEO get a shot of her! Have you tried doing a fast lens swap with a matte box , while lights and audio is burning through batteries and talent has to be gone in 3 minutes? I run 2 S5 bodies usually with a 24-70 and 70-200 combo (and with the 16-35 ready to be bolted on if we need ultra wides) - and usually have a third body (Gh6) on standby with a Sigma 16mm prime (which you can shoot virtually any event on) and a 200-600 zoom. for ridiculous reach. For controlled shooting rigs are great - but these shoots are so rare for me. And I suspect for 70% of S series owners out there- which is what makes rig flexing such a puzzle for me. There is definitely a trend right now for shooters, after rig ups, to go back to bare bones shooting set up. having said all of that - for the right set - this rig looks great!

Yep I agree entirely. When I graduated from university I definitely wanted to make my Sony A7s look cool. I bought a matte box and shoulder rig thing and HATED IT lol. Ended up returning it and for a long time was like "why do people want these huge rigs so bad or even use them" because like you, I was a solo shooter for the most part. Very run and gun. But yes this project we will have I think roughly 20-25 crew including actors. So when we were planning to shoot on the S5IIX in BRAW and have external monitoring, follow focus, etc I was like yeah I'm going to need to rig this out and make it so things run smoothly and efficiently for all parties. Excited to see what you guys think of the project when its done. We are only shooting 1 scene next week, but there will be some content on it

good luck! Is there a way to stop screws loosening on set? a tiny dab of loctite or maybe some split / spring loaded washers? I think that was my #1 pain point (apart from lengthy set ups and lens swaps ) @@DustinArmstrongPro

There's no shot a first AC is pulling focus off any Lumix camera lmao. Even with the trick turning off sound via hdmi, the latency is just abysmal. Otherwise great video!!

My first AC did for 2 days🤷 I do agree though it's terrible. Needs to be fixed

@@DustinArmstrongPro Kudos to them! A true professional lmao. I don't know if the HDMI latency issue is a hardware or software fix, but it's just terrible comparatively to others. However, this thing is PACKED with features so definitely can be overlooked I think in most circumstances!

This rig is meant for a full crew so my 1st AC would be bringing his own so that's why there's not one. But if you don't have a 1st AC just add it?

Got to be one of the ugliest rigs I have ever seen. It is super functional though!
