In this video I show you how I built my own Eurorack case. I've tried to be as informative as possible without making it too long winded. If you have any questions about the process or anything else, feel free to leave a comment and I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge.
The Build of Materials for the electronic parts I used can be found here:

I based my design on Bastl Instruments Rumburack 2.0: www.bastl-instruments.com/modu...
Don't forget guys: hit subscribe, like, and share. It really helps me a lot and keeps me going to create more great content for you !

I love this case! Especially the way it sets up when you're ready to play the synth. Quick moment of concern though. The T-nuts you use for the stand offs on the power strips are made to be threaded through a hole from the other side of the wood. You could probably get away with the way you used them if you glued them in the holes. If not they can come loose and let the power strips bang around in the case causing damage. Just thought I would point this out so no one uses them this way and has it damage expensive modules.

Nice idea and build! Oh, i wish i had funds and time to get myself modular synth, DIY case with butterfly locks is one of options I will consider for my own project. These small nuts that you hammered into the wood are called T-nuts .

Great video, very clear walkthrough of what you did! I'm about to embark on a DIY journey and everything points in the direction of a Meanwell power supply. One thing I'm wondering is if your system has had any issues with -12V draw. The Meanwell RT65 is supposed to deliver only 500mA at -12V , where my ModularGrid 6U sketch would draw 750mA at -12V. I can imagine your 9U system would draw even more at -12V. Curious to know if you have had to add another power supply!

This video is so great, thank you! Also fun fact about fuses, they blow out when it exceeds the current rating, so seems like you had a good fuse, or at least a working one lol. Anyway love the style of this case

Fantastic idea and great execution :) Must feel great to use something you built yourself! Can you share the measurements? Do you own the Rumburack - is that how you measured it? I don't see them listed on the bastl instruments website. Where can I find them?

Hey Dave! Going to enter the modular highway too now. What genre are you aiming with your modular setup? It's on the techno'ish side right? Could you recommend modules? Thank you for your great videos!

@JSchuurman

super cool, thanks for this! Question, how heavy is the unit before adding modules and after? Also, I don't suppose you have any plans you could share for the construction?
@Davemech
@Davemech 3 года назад
There's a BOM doc linked in the description :) The actual drawings I have no more. But I simply scaled the case this design was based on :). It was pretty heavy. In hindsight I would've chose 9mm thick wood instead of 12mm. I think empty it already weighted 10kg or so.

I can't seem to find any info online in regards to affixing the Mean Well supplies to the case. Does it sit on standoffs as well or screw into the wood?
@Davemech
@Davemech 5 лет назад
You can just mount it with screws. It's enough when you place it in a corner. It has a couple of holes on the sides to make sure it stays in place.

This video was really useful! I'm building my DIY case and will probably get the Meanwell power supply/bus as well. But I've read online that it has noise and humming issues if you don't use all of its power, is that true? I'm using aprox. 12-15 modules, so I wouldn't even exceed half of its consumption. I'm finding it really hard to decide what power supply to choose, since all of the info I find around are really confusing. Thanks!
@Davemech
@Davemech 2 года назад
It's fine :) I had no noise issues at all. It's a very commonly used power supply for diy modular cases. Enjoy the build!

Hey there Dave, my apologies. I did not see the details in the description. I know this might be quite forward but is there any way you could share the dimensions of your design of your case as it seems like a perfect option for me, as I also travel quite a lot. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for a fantastic video and have a great day.

Jamie Smith hi Jamie I literally only drew it out on paper. I could send you some pictures of it, but my advise would be to double check everything :) I might have adjusted things a tiny bit along the way while assembling. Contact me through Facebook in case (pun intended) you're still interested. Facebook.com/davemechlive

I'm wondering, how did the fuse blow when there was no load?
@Davemech
@Davemech 2 года назад
I turned it on. So there will be an initial spike which probably caused the fuse to blow.

Here's what I don't understand? Why one big case? Why not a several smaller cases? Or will that create a ground loop or something?
