How to Build a DIY RC Plane Storage Rack (for $35!)

In this video, I give you a quick tutorial on how to build a wall-hanging RC plane storage rack for less than $35. This rack is great for showcasing and preventing damage to your planes, and making them easily accessible to take on your next flight.

the length of the horizontal pipes could be a lot shorter if the front of the plane faced the wall. That also would put plane weight closer to wall.

Hi RC, The only thing I’m going to do different is put the planes with motor facing the wall. I’m thinking the front of the Plane is going to be Heavier then the back. But thanks for the TIP!👏😄

You gave me the inspiration to build one of these. My oldest daughter finally left the nest and I reclaimed my hobby room by installing a work bench, a big work table and the plane rack. My problem is I could use 2. I do not have the room but that's ok. I watched all your videos for something to do. I make videos to show others that they can get into the RC hobby cheap enough if they really want. It's not a need, it's a want, so for those struggling with every day life, the hobby isnt something everyone should do. However, if someone wanted to get into it, they can mabe follow my advice and it will get them started. Everyone starts at the beginning so that how that goes.

Very cool and sharp looking! Years ago I built a similar one, but for heavier planes and wings off using metal shelf racks with pipe insulation on the supports. Very strong, but yours is cooler! Thanks!

Great idea,I'm a plumber by trade and I think pvc and other pipe components make for great r/c stands ,holders,shelving etc.its quite strong as well,

I have the same set up. If you find out you have a heavier plane you can always run additional PVC pipe from the rack to the ground for security. Nice job!

If you want floor to ceiling, add screw in connectors with a screw cap at either end , the unscrew for a friction fit. maybe even add a pair of rubber or felt pads for grip.

I think this is a great stand and the fact that you didn’t glue it means you can break it down and use one or two sections in the back of an SUV for transport as well if you don’t feel like making a separate stand. 👍👍👍👍👍

Hi Kaylee, went and picked up the stuff to build a rack like yours today in the shop I built a rack similar to that if you years ago but yours was a little bit different design and much better, thank you for the idea and complete instructions with measurements only thing different was I think inflation has set in maybe it's been a while since you built that anyway cost me a little over 80 bucks but that's okay I'm satisfied with it have it on the wall in the shop with planes on it already. Thank you again, you are my kind of gal not afraid to break a fingernail or do something on your own. Keep it up girl.

Nice stand and a good idea. The only thing I would say is to be careful with the planes where the wings are attached with elastics. If the elastic rot out, the plane will fall. This is just from personal experience from when I was kid (a really long time ago). I used to hangs my planes from the ceiling until one day I found one of my models on the ground with the tail broken off.

How about a good solution to hang a lot of those Eachine mini EPP RTF warbirds (P51, T38, F4U, etc) on the ceiling? I'm thinking of using fishing wire (clear) but not sure if that's a good idea. Thanks!

i know they're not very heavy but will the wings warp over time hanging by the wings ? i would think you would want brace bars to hold the body instead

Schedule 80 pipe would be stiffer. You could use it just for the arms for greater load support.

Great idea, but it wouldn't work here with our five cats. They'd use it as another cat tree and climb/tear the shit out of the foam. I have to hang all of my stuff from the ceiling. LOL
