These types of assets go well with top-down camera video games. Would be cool to see you doing "enterable structures", also, the scene look so cool!

I always thought it was just one person making these things. It's really cool hearing about the collaborative process it takes to complete a project like this, but also a little demotivating for the thought of trying to solo dev.

I picked it up immediately when it was offered. It's a great asset pack. With this, and the previous Castle pack, I think you have the potential to give Synty a run for their money. Thanks for including the rigging and animations with the characters.

I have no plan on using this to build a game, but understanding the workflow, even at a high level, gives me ideas for modeling buildings to be 3D printed as war gaming terrain. :) Thanks!

Interesting approach; I've been making a castles and dungeons pack (don't know if I'll ever release it publicly or just use it), though I made all my architectural components as separate objects from the start, and then started on the furniture, decor, and other non-architectural items.

I’ve been learning from you for a few years now, it’s where I started my 3d journey. I’ve recently started on an asset pack by myself, but went about it by making the prefabs separately. I really like the idea of making one major model and cutting it apart, seems it saves a ton of time vs making the individual pieces and trying to build something. Curious, what does the process look like for how the model is taken apart by your partners?
@grabbitt
@grabbitt 14 дней назад
You get a sense of that when I cut to the pieces. But there's a fair bit of back and forth

Hi, this is completetly unrelated Grant, but since I've always said that you are the easiest to follow tutorial maker here in youtube and there is this completetly unrecognized Ucupaint add-on in Blender. I come to you to make a tutorial using that add-on for some game ready object texturing. I have tried to make one myself, but my accent is horrible ;D Maybe the axe tutorial could be textured with ucupaint?

Really nice work! I like the idea of working in a modular style. I'm encouraged by what you said about not having to worry so much about topology etc.. as that still intimidates me when I'm asked about working in a larger team workflow than just myself. I am curious about how the system your team members might use to go about cutting them up to use going forward though could you explain that or is it a pretty simple process?

Very simple process of going into the mesh and separating pieces and then adapting them
@adeadgirl13

All of this looks so cool, but I'm a bit surprised that there's no story to go along with it. As a writer I always thought first would come the story and the theoretical worldbuilding and then the visual worldbuilding will happen based on that. It is interesting to see a visual first approach.

Hey grant your stuff is fantastic , out of all the teachers I've watched your stuff has stuck the most , when using your hand painted texture style like in your gamedev tv turret video , how would one deal with using those assets in game engine In regards to lighting , just use an unlit shader and hand paint all the light and Shadow as in the video ? Even the cast shadows ?
@grabbitt
@grabbitt 14 дней назад
Often you don't have cast shadows. you treat it as if the sun is directly above. Otherwise you have to draw them in
@Nick-j4r
@Nick-j4r 14 дней назад
@@grabbittah ok so unlit shader and just entirely use hand painted light and shadow then basically ? For something like a say a torch in a wall in a dungeon you're running past you wouldn't bother trying to cast that light onto the character right since youd need multiple versions with light coming from different sides depending on character direction you would just have the light cast in the environment and light the character overall with hand painting ?

I thought a helpful concept to bring up that I didn't hear is deliverables. Such as, do the buildings need interiors, how close will a player get. These deliverables and others can help you understand what is needed, and what are the goals while ignoring irrelevant aspects of maybe realism.
