@@MikuCigarBoxGuitar you know, here is a practice I follow -- never scrub back and forth over frets, especially with 220 grit. Go one direction only, because you take more out of the middle frets than the end frets. Just my method, but makes sense if you think about it. Bob in Montana. (An amateur luthier, actually)
@@robertshorthill4153 Thanks a lot! I like to learn new things like this. I appreciate your suggestion and I will do it your way. Miku in Poland - a wannabe amateur luthier.
Wow so I’m really surprised that your channel only has 740 subscribers. This video is good enough that it could be put on DVD and sold in stores not only are you a great luthier but you have very awesome video making skills 🙏🏽👻❤️ Much love from Detroit Michigan USA
Congratulations on a fantastic build, very interesting and a great sounding panjo, i followed this build with interest but could you tell me what is the benefit of the food processor part and would it make much difference to the sound without it . I am in the process of building a oil can guitar but i doubt it will finish as good as your build. Well Done.
hi. thank you for nice words. the food processor part resonates in E. so it works like resonator together with harmonics of the strings and chords with the E sound. It is not significant difference but I love Ed Stiley works and wanted to try. good luck with your build
Aloha!
I have following your builds for a while and your artwork is a great signature feature. Can you say how you determine the back angle? Or your trade secret. Thanx
Oh thank you Tim. I do not really care how many degrees this angle is. Just compared with standard Gibson and measured in mm how far the headstock is below the body surface. But i think IT is easy to Google.
Nicely done tailpiece and attractive bridge. Can't wait to hear it played. Also, nice back bracing. F holes are well done, too. Thanks -- you have done this before, huh? The neck profile and fret leveling are my only bugs
*****FINE JOB YOUNG MAN! I LOVE IT! And most of all I Love seeing people become resourceful and Artisan/craftsman to fit every Human need! I just built a Asian looking 6 string Lute(small scale neck) tuned AA, EE, AA (flat wounds on the AA and EE, and plain lights on high EE with a chinese PICTURE design biscuit tin and brass hardware, stainless zero nut, piezo electronics and brass decorative carved bridge and tail with cello fine tuners. Have to back machine screw the tail though because tension was too great for the brass silver solderings even though I placed brass rid plugs to secure. Working on tgat Damn Tail piece now aside now having to wait because the china made Tap and Die sets I bought are TOO DAMN SOFT OF METAL.(ebay purch). LOL I found myself talking to myself and siding right along with your steps. 😆 Of course I got stumped at that pickup you placed in there. I was like...what the heck is that? AGAIN...FANTASTIC JOB MIKU! I WILL BE SUBBING!! GOD BLESS YA MATE!***** Careful watch buy on both eBay and Amazon! 😆 lol
Thank you! It is always nice to read such complete comments. This pickup I used was an extra quality Original Flatpup. www.flatpup.com/ made in Austria. And yes, I have some bad adventures with chinese components. Greetings
I want a Panjo :-p !! hha (I have a few, sold my piepan cbg a few years ago) this looks nice and I love that the body is large, and has good resonance ^^ cheers from Belgium
Nice to hear the world is at peace with the birds singing at day's end. WAY BETTER than head thumping hip-hop crap. Next best would be Mozart or Antonio Vivaldi. Thanks for sharing the build. Wonder if I could build a panjolin, ya know, with 8 strings ? Would it be worth the effort for the sound ?
You know, I love to experiment even if I fail at the end so I will always say that it is worth to try and build new things. If I fail or the result will not be as good as I expeced I will treat this as a free lesson. I would build the panjolin for sure if I could play in this tuning. And the birds and forrest sounds fit perfect for such simple low-fi instrument. For me Mozart would fit to building real violin ot any classic instrument. Thanks for feedback and godd luck with panjolin. I'd love to see the result.
My friend, the neck profile leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. Needs more of a rounded "V" shape, I would say. Look at a plectrum or a tenor banjo to get what I mean. Also, I would have put two carbon fiber rods into the neck with an ebony or rosewood fret board. Just me, though. Lots of work. Why not go all the way ?
I have tested this issue. If I build without truss rod or carbon bars and keep it simple - the neck must be heavier (thicker). This video is also for all folks who want to start building simple instruments without any routing or special knowlegde - just the box and piece of wood.
@@MikuCigarBoxGuitar yeah, one would probably need a router table and a bit the size of the carbon rods ( rectangles really). Every home work shop needs a router table as a matter of course. Very versatile for lots of things. Just run the neck along a straight fence. Stop where you need to. Swap ends and start and stop where needed. Use a foot switch so you don't need to take hands off the work till the bit stops. Epoxy the CF rods in and be ready for no under bowing from the string tension and have a more comfortable neck. Cheers, and thanks for the comments, my amateur luthier friend. Bob in Montana, USA
@Robert Shorthill Yes, I use a router a lot. Without the router I would not be able to build these: www.cigarboxguitar.pl/?page_id=83. But as I wrote I wanted to show that having a box and a piece of wood and no fancy tools one can build a simple instrument. Greetings :) Nice conversation btw.
Bet this wasn't your first rodeo, er panjo. My hat is off to you for a fantastic job, just wish you were able to narrate as you built it, and included some dimensions.
Thank you. English is not my native language and I speak awful . Regarding the dimensions I am writing step by step guide how to build such instruments and this book will be available on Amazon in a couple of days
I could speak Polish. You don't speak this language either. There is nothing to explain here. You can see everything. If the birds are bothering you, just mute
Nice build! It sounds great. I had to turn the sound off, the bird calls became annoying. If you don't want to talk about your builds, music might be a better idea.
