I'm curious, how did you acquire and install the springs underneath the lid? I love the sound they add, the whole thing reminds me of a hammer dulcimer.
One of the best sounding guitars I heard on your channel. Not that the others did not sound good, but this one, man...the sound is just on soooo fine. Love it!
Del, that CBG is very versatile. With the DAD tuning it can be a great improvised bouzouki. Now they mostly have 8 strings, but old school players played with 6 strings tuned DAD!
I've been trying to learn by watching your u tube page, I got a cheap hinkler, and beat the tar outta it💯‼️🤪,now a year later, I'm hooked , so much fun , and I'm a little bit better, always wanted a resonator guitar or Dobro, never could afford one🤔🤞⁉️, along came a cheaper option for me to get acclimated to that swampy style blues masquito bitting backwoods pickin and sliding type guitar I like , and then y'all are doing great things on internet , reaching anywhere in the world ‼️💯😝🪐💫🌊🌄were people would have just wished they knew someone who could show them how to build and play a thing called a BLUES BOX GUITAR , AMAZING. INJANUITY AND. AMAGINATION , AND PLAIN BAD ASSED MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND MUSICAL GENIUS, WELL I WANT TO MOVE UP TO A NEW ONE, BUILT BY YOU , I LOVE THE PAINT CAN RESONATOR , ACOUSTIC AND. ELECTRIC, JUST A PIAZO HIDING UNDER THE BRIDGE ‼️💯⁉️🤞✌️🙏👍 CAN IT VE DONE FOR UNDER $150.00 ❓❓⁉️🤞🙏🤙 IM FROM BALTIMORE I MD, PLEASE IF ITS POSSIBLE REPOND PLEASE , EVEN JUST TO SAY HEY AND THANX FOR TUNING IN , 24 -7👍 AND SHARING SOME AWESOME VIDEOS AND VALUABLE CONTENT AND GREAT MUSIC ✌️💯
I appreciate that this actually sounds like an instrument when it’s not plugged in. Most of the cigar box guitars I’ve come across in my life have sounded completely dead and devoid of any character when played acoustic. My understanding is that, historically, the whole point of using a box (as opposed to a plank of solid wood) is for its utility as a resonance chamber to make a DIY approximation of an _acoustic_ guitar, not a purely electric one. I feel like a pickup should be a *perk* - not a prerequisite.
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar the content my comment is missing is an appropriate amount of my praise/compliments to your work! It truly is a great piece. And I wanna give your craftsmanship more credit than “it actually sounds like an instrument” which doesn’t sound like much of a compliment to me upon re-reading it 😅
@@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar Let's take it to a new level w/ a 6 String CBG, & how about a 12 String CBG w/ a Built in tuner. If you were to make 6 & 12 String versions of those Cigar Box Guitars, they need built in tuners. Here's a Pickup system that includes a built in tuner:www.amazon.com/Equalizer-Digital-Acoustic-Electric-Preamplifier/dp/B07CTP9THX/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=preamp+with+built+in+tuner&qid=1586212423&sr=8-1 cause w/ that many Strings (either 6 or 12 strings) not only does it need to be stronger (which will happen soon) but we also need a built in tuner.

Del, that git sounds awesome. Really. I don't know the songs you play, but I think that's one of the things I enjoy most about your videos, is listening when you play.
I have watched this a few times now. Each time I get more ideas. Thanks so much for helping me to stir up my creativity! It’s very fun in this time of Covid-19! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You read my mind. This was the next one I was going to make. Now i really want to build it! I made the first one a couple weeks age per your teaching and it is so beautiful and sounds great. It sounds really good when I "play it like I'm going to break it" . I was afraid of flinging frets and didn't have the tools, so marked the fretless fretboard with inlays. along the upper edge.. Learning to play it. Fretless uses slightly dif. techniques, but sings nicely in the e-b-e.
These instruments are an evolvement of the mountain dulcimer. First you had the mountain/lap/Appalachian dulcimer, then it evolved into the 'walking dulcimer' or 'dulcitar'(what the modern recreations are called) which is a version you play like a guitar rather than on your lap, and then finally someone discovered you could make a dulcitar using pre-made items like cigar boxes and paint can lids, and added a guitar-like chromatic rather than diatonic fretboard to it, thus making it a 'guitar'. Similar thing with the 'canjo'. Started out as this one string instrument from Ireland brought over by the Irish immigrants to the southern Appalachian mountains, and was used to keep the beat for other music players in ensembles. At first it was called a 'diddly bow', but then a small, triangular soundbox got added to increase and it began to be called a 'pickin' stick'. Then more strings got added and it became known as a 'chord stick' or 'strum stick'. Then it kind of bled together with the 'walking dulcimer'/'dulcitar' and kind of became the same instrument, although chord sticks were usually longer scale length, had skinnier fretboards with 3 strings rather than the walking dulcimer which had 4 strings in 3 courses (like a regular mountain dulcimer). Then someone discovered you could make these diddly bows out of pre-made items like cans, and they started calling them 'canjos' in more recent times for marketability, although they really have nothing to do with real banjos. Interestingly, canjos seem to have gone back to the one-string design of the earlier diddly bows.
Better sound than most reso style builds but with a paint tin lid ,love it! .Take a look at my biscuit tin cbg ,not a patch on yours ,but also in the true spirit of home made cbg.
Amazing resonance. Love the banjo like quality. If it's not a trade secret, is that lid glued in or just fitted by close tolerance when you cut the hole? Cheery tunes after a long day of self isolation! Thanks as always.
Makes me want to build one and learn to play!. If you think thats shiny true sanding the lid 600 to 1000 to 2000 grit and finish off with polishing compound, you can make a mirror!
So.... Our house burned down on Jan 27 with everything my wife and I owned including our beloved pets. We lost all of our instruments and I was wondering if I could purchase one of your guitars. I have been building my own since I discovered your channel but unfortunately everything is gone and I dont have the ability to construct my own at the moment. Thank you.
Man that Axe sounds beutiful - and also great playing Sir! One question if allowed: is that a floating bridge or did You glue it in place? Greetings from Germany
That one sounds great!! Quick question I see you using hot glue with the piezo? I would think that hot glue would muffle the piezo cause hot glue is very soft. Have you tried using cyanoacrylate to attach the piezo directly to the sound board? It might not be good on the resonator but on your wood models I would think it would perform better that the hot glue.
