How I built a beautiful Redwood Pergola in my backyard. The redwood is stained with natural stain which makes that deep red color pop. Visit www.hertoolbel...
for the plans and template.
Materials
Redwood - See www.getredwood... to find a distributor
4 - 8″ x 8″ x 10′ rough cut redwood timbers (posts) www.getredwood...
4 - 2″ x 12″ x 14′ rough cut redwood lumber boards www.getredwood...
10 - 2″ x 12″ x 12′ rough cut redwood lumber boards
24 - 2″ x 2″ x 14′ rough cut redwood lumber boards (If these are not rough cut and the measure 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″, then you’ll need 26.)
2 - 1″ x 12″ x 8′ rough cut redwood lumber boards - optional (for post sleeves to cover hardware)
Finish - Natural stain, Clear Sealant - homedepot.sjv.... , homedepot.sjv....
Ornamental Hardware - Optional
4 - Post Bases for 8×8 posts - homedepot.sjv....
4 - 5/8″ x 7″ Concrete Anchors (or whatever you need to attach to concrete, wood, etc) homedepot.sjv....
8 - Deck Joist Ties for Rough Cut Lumber (if you’re not using rough cut lumber, they do have strap for 1 1/2″ thick lumber) homedepot.sjv....
16 - Ornamental Washers homedepot.sjv....
48 - Decorative Nuts homedepot.sjv....
16 - 3 1/2″ Ornamental screws homedepot.sjv....
32 - 5 1/2″ Ornamental screws homedepot.sjv....
3″ exterior screws homedepot.sjv....
Standard Hardware - (if not using Ornamental Hardware list)
16 - 1/2″-13 x 12 1/2″ bolts (minimum length)
32 - 1/2″ flat washer
16 - 1/2″ nut
4 - 8 x 8 post base and hardware associated with the type you choose homedepot.sjv....
3″ exterior screws homedepot.sjv....
Concrete Footings
(This list depends on your frost line. For my area, I poured 12″ diameter x 36″-40″ deep footings)
4 - 12″ diameter concrete form tube homedepot.sjv....
15 - 80 lb Concrete Mix homedepot.sjv....
I added some rebar for good measure

The first half of the ru-vid.comUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

We reviewed hundreds of videos and images of pergolas and this was our favorite design so we built one from cedar. Love the arches, the ease of brackets over mortises, and the beefy posts and beams! We've had many compliments already and I tell people where we got the idea and plans. We referred to this video tens of times during construction, printed all the diagrams, used all the templates, and even benefited from the material links...I could only find some materials by clicking your links as a search on the store's site didn't list some things. Thanks for taking the time to create a beautiful and practical design, record your build, and provide all the plans and info for free to help people like us!

That was genius using the oscillating tool to make those cuts at 6:20. People usually do them with multiple passes with the saw and a chisel. Great tip!
@paulthomas8262
@paulthomas8262 Год назад
make sure you account for the swing of the oscillation. keep it 2-3m or 1/8th away from from the corner in order not cut into he corner an it will work well. Also a variable speed helps, cut a test piece to the the speed a pressure to prevent burn as different wood cuts differently.

Thanks for presenting such impressive demonstration. It came up beyond my expectation specially the way that all the decorated beams look consistent while they were not factory made! It's common in Australia to put the stands deep into the concrete before it sets rather than letting it to set and then drill a long hole, but it doesn't take any credit of the great job which you have done. I absolutely respect and endorse it.

very impressive that you did this project mostly by yourself, most can not do it. my comment to you is to put on mask next time when you deal with concreate dust. when installing rafters, put the first one in first and use the spacer to put the rest in for just one end and then go to the other end, this will make the job quicker. over all great job 10/10
